“To be accepted….it’s just like a dream come true…”
Imagine being a 15 year old boy whose “dream come true” isn’t a fast car, or your crush agreeing to be your girlfriend, or the newest game console………but, just to have one person on this Earth you can depend on to love & support you. I’m so grateful he found that. What an amazing gift for both of them!

@@wrackable - Yikes, that’s pretty harsh. I don’t think anything I said speaks to a lack of empathy or consideration of others, nor is it indicative of a dormant ego. In fact, my comment doesn’t reflect any of the 4 recognized types of narcissism, unless they’ve changed since I finished my PhD in Psychology. Although, your comment does.
That being said, I didn’t say that’s what all 15 year old boys dream of. Not having been one myself, I can’t possibly know for certain what they do, or do not dream of, but should one 15 year old boy anywhere on the planet dream of having his very own cool car, or that the girl he’s crushing on will say “yes” if he asks her to be his girlfriend, or for the new gaming console he has his eye on……I, personally, would find it age appropriate & emotionally healthy. I hope that’s what they dream about, if the other option is dreaming about just one, single person to exist who loves him without limits - bc I hope they’re already loved without limits. As a 15 y/o lesbian I didn’t have much use for gaming consoles, but I definitely dreamed of having my own car, and that the girl I was crushing on would be my girlfriend. I didn’t have the courage to ask a girl out until I was 26 though. No 15 year old boy should have to dream of there being someone, even just 1 person, who will love him unconditionally, and support him when he needs it. Every 15 year old boy should already have that. Everyone should have that. It’s heartbreaking that he didn’t know what that kind of love & support feels like for the first 15 years of his life. But, like I said, I’m so grateful that he knows what it feels like now.

    What a great guy.
    I am adopted myself.
My parents were in their 50's when they started fostering children. They were what they called a therapeutic home, taking in troubled children. The goal was to send them their to "heal" and find a permanent home. They never intended to adopt.
Then my 2 bio sisters and I came and the rest is history. We were the children that nobody wanted and mom and dad were our last hope before 1. A group home or 2. Our dangerous biological home.
Mom and dad were able to see us for what we could be.
They also wanted to adopt another girl, whom we fondly had already called sister. But sadly due to the court's stupidity she was sent back to her mother and vanished with her a few days later. I don't know what happened to her, but she is still my little sister in my heart.

@Not Real I'm sorry, I guess I didn't explain that very good. I was adopted with by 2 bio sister because my Mom taught very, very hard for us. Without her we would have been permanently separated.
The little girl (Alexis) was not my biological sister, but another girl mom and dad took in shortly after we came to them.
But mom amd dad were 100% going to adopt her so we always viewed her as our sister, and still do.
It was her mother's boyfriend that almost killed her (though we knew the mom knew about the high level of abuse and didn't care) in fact we picked he rup from the hospital. So the courts decided she was safe. Thus handing her back to the mother and the mother did not keep touch with the court as she should.
My mom tried to warn the courts something like that was going to happen (mom was blessed to be able to discern people amd has never been wrong yet), she begged them not to send her back but they did.
I don't think there would be anyway to find her now. She has a very unique last name and mom can't quite remember it anymore after 20 years.

I'm so happy to hear that your experience being adopted by an older couple was good. The fact that they were a therapeutic home is HUGE, so they understand how to navigate and help kids with trauma. I also was taken from my parents at a young age and adopted by an older couple, in their 60's, but they didn't have any background in how trauma effect kids behavior/trust, ultimately leading to them unadopting me. I'm not saying this for any sympathy, im just wanted to input how happy I am that a similar situation worked out for you and how important it is for fostering families to have a good background in child development/trauma. I believe most fostering families have to take a class or complete something to be certified in their understanding, but it's interesting to think that some people can get that training and still not be good parents. It seems so obvious, but I've been many places and I can say, i saw and experienced more abuse than not. Granted, 10-20 years ago the system was a little different. It's changed a little, but it's not much better.

My mom since ending fostercare has started mentoring people unofficially. She just can't help herself lol.
I agree training is a must. We were deeply traumatize kids with severe PTSD. Sounds like we might have been in at the same time. At that time the foster system was so new and PTSD in children still not understood fully. They told mom that we would never be normal and needed to go to a special school.
What we needed was lots of love and loving correction.
But mom says even some people that having been thoroughly trained can't do it. You have to have training, but you have to also have decernement and understanding because every child is different. We hit the jackpot.
We are still in contact with one of our social workers and she said it is amazing how we've turned out, but she always had faith in us.

Hearing him speak about the foster parents who will “be happy with you one day and kick you out the next” was absolutely heartbreaking. No child should ever have to feel rejected or abandoned. Children need love and support and direction to develop a healthy relationship with themselves and others so that our future generations will come to treat the world and those in it with more kindness and respect. This cruel and selfish society takes and breaks so much of our potential.

I could never kick a child out no matter how troublesome they may be, there is always a way to make things better. A child has so much time to change if it's their behavior, you never know what they will be like when they are older. I've seen very naughty kids turn into very humble adults. The people people kick them out are fostering for the wrong reasons. Fostering is really the same as being a parent it's a full time job and I think a lot of them don't realise that. They are not a pet fish you just leave to do whatever and feed every now and then.

How wonderful open your heart people. My husband and I were foster parents the last 2 children were sisters 5month old and 18 month old these girls went to the beach we took the 18month old to Kmart to get shoes and a coat my husband had her trying on shoes and coats oh my goodness she would not take them off so we sat her up on the conveyor belt she the young girl to get an amount all the cashiers were laughing. From there we went to boscovs and got the 5month old a snowsuit she didn’t care to be bundled up but we made a game of it sneaker that light up when you walk now we go home and it is time for a bath all went well until it was time for bed we had to put the sneakers that lit up into the crib with the 18 month old 3 months later we got the call to take the children to the pre adoptive foster mother I started to cry but I couldn’t do this in front of these precious babies. My husband asked the case worker why she didn’t give us the opportunity to adopt she gave no answer he told her we would have adopted them right away when we got ready to leave the babies started to cry and the oldest one was clinging to my leg so I bent dow and picked her up and told her it is going to be alright the 5month old was clinging to my husband and would not let go we went out the door our hearts were broken I could not stop crying they were going to be in my heart forever
