Ok I drove 4 hours to Moretown to see if I could find what you found. Long drive shitty roads. When I got there 1-6-20 there was snow on the ground and river banks which made it difficult to access however I found a spot i could reach that looked good. You are right about the black sand there , looked the black sand on lake superior big deep bands of it.Low and behold the sand does contain flour gold and lots of it at this spot. I classified two buckets to bring home and did maybe 10 pans there all of which had gold. Thanks for the direction , thanks for all your videos. There is no bullshit here I found gold, also last summer did coos canyon where i found gold as well, not as much but bigger pieces. however this is no place for winter prospecting as the steep ice covered walls pose a danger to an old man. Aries seems cool , keep the videos coming dude.
This video was awesome. I really liked all the location transitions like that. Good show dude. I stumbled on your videos a few weeks back and I had a feeling you were a vet just by the way you spoke. After watching many videos I see you were 82nd. I was ADA, 14t, but my brother was an 11c in 82nd in the late 90s. We lost him last week unexpectedly. He used to talk about wanting to pan gold, I always have wanted too as well, I think it's about time to get on it.
Hey man. I'm from vt myself. Mad river is decent. But not the best one by far. I know quite a few great gold bearing streams and brooks. If you're ever wanting to come back to Vermont, let me know. I'd be happy to be the tour guide to the better areas to go. I'm a huge fan of yours as it is. I learn alot from you and your videos. I think you'd be surprised at what you can find here in this state! Not to mention, we were hit with a once in a century flood in July. So everything has been refreshed lol
Thank you for coming to vermont , Sure wish I got to catch up with you . There was a lot of copper mining a couple of towns from Chelsea in a small town of Stratford. Look it up sometime I think you will like the story's you find.
Loved that you did all of the new england states! Im from Massachusetts, i thought you were going to look for some gold but metal detecting this very old part of the country is just as good! i always hope you find silver coins when you start digging ! keep up the good work and happy digging brother!
Ice in summer, that's pretty awesome. Shane, you have to get Aries a gold pan. She needs to find her own colour. with her own gear.... including camera. You need to go back there and do a snipe when the river drops, oh, and warms up a bit. I think it would be an awesome place right where you pointed out. There must be some big gold there. Cheers for sharing this beautiful state with us. Love it :)
stood on that same piece of bedrock in January it was cold and slippery but i did find color in my pan and you are right it was fine flour gold. great video
Darn that water in this outing looked chilly...bet your foot thought so as well...nice little bit of fine stuff...pitty you were not treated with larger stuff. Nice garnet though...hope you kept that as momento of the trip...Sweet video...Thanks for sharing. Have a good one 👍
Not the best area of Vermont to find gold but fun video nonetheless. Next time you have a go at it stay within the "moretown/stowe" bedrock trend contact zones. More of central Vermont especially there is a pinch point where the ocean floor was thrust up , there you will find serpentine outcrops and iron complex that host lode gold. Also along the volcanic ring near nh border with in a 12 mile ring theres also decent color. Those two trends run north to south into western Massachusetts. Theres gold all the way.
also... a good place to find gold is in Plymouth VT, on Buffalo Brook. ive not had the chance to go there and Pan yet, but its a well known gold producer and way back in the day was the one hard rock gold mine in the state. another place to look is in Stowe VT on, the aptly named "Gold Brook" and for ours, here in Waitsfield the one place i Have tried is by a bridge next to American Flatbread just down the road south of Waitsfield and Irasville, and just on a really nice bend "down" river, north of the Waitsfield Covered bridge. there is so much black sand its insane. but a lot of the gold has been eroded away by the glaciers and such, probably all mostly south hiding in deep deposits on Long Island lol... which as i believe is a massive Glacial Moraine. in any case, closer to home as it where, i can see the Mad River from my house in Town (with the massive amount of slate) i think its a $25 permit as a resident to use dredges or sluice, and $50 for non-resident, though i woudlnt mind giving a Gold Hog Flow Pan a try... in any case, between gold and diamonds, ive got my mineral hobbies down good lol... not to mention my many years long stone projects...
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlej...... Nope not doing it 😄! Broken record here but as father of three precious girls. It is so great to see the bonding that is happening before all our eyes between you two with these videos. I think what separates you from most prospectors on CZcams is the unlimited amount of info you give when making these videos. I've never done anything like this before but I feel when I FINISH CLEARING your video play list (I will watch them all believe that) I believe I will have all the knowledge of a seasoned panner. Don't stop doing what you're doing Shane it's perfect! Until next video my friend!
All your talents and now we add time traveler, Klesh to it. Awesome fun video. I so very much enjoyed see you back n forth. Your daughter is a mini you, kind of, she is learning so much and so are we. Thanks Shane for sharing all the awesome videos. Have a great evening wherever you are right now. :-)
I got to this video a little late, but I still enjoyed it. It's more gold than I would have expected b4 you started this 50 state series. Good on Aries for catching that ice breaking off into the river! A mini calving, lol!
Hello, there is a river in Leeds Mass. called the Mill river. and back in 1874 there was a large flood when a dam broke upstream wiping out 4 towns in it's wake, there was a book written about it called"In the shadow of the Dam", There has to be so much stuff still laying around, it would be a good metal detecting video.
You guys should visit Utah, there is the Dugway geobeds. A lot of geodes out there to dig for. There is also Topaz mountain in the Thomas mountain range. If you make it to Cali, look for a small town called Lewiston in Trinity county. Nearby is a creek called Rush creek, there is a lot of good gold up and down that creek. There is also a small boat ramp closer to Lewiston where people have picked at it for arrowheads, some broken, some whole.
That's awesome information. If you send me an email I will be able to actually follow up on this info, otherwise it will unfortunately get lost under thousands of comments that I'll never get a chance to read again. Thanks! sjklesh@gmail.com
I wish I knew there was gold in New England growing up in Connecticut. I would have been at the rivers pulling out as much fly poop sized gold as I could.
Hope you had a great time in Vermont, Jesse and I were up the last season for a weekend, I hit this one spot and pulled out 1.2 or was it 1.3 grams in about 4-5 hours. Keep them coming, Shane. Be safe out there.
I live in Pennsylvania and my wife and I vacation in Vermont. We always find great gold. We also find okay gold in Pa. In Vermont we find pickers, and in Pennsylvania we find nice flake gold. I live in Erie County and the gold is easy to find in all creeks that run north into Lake Erie.
It’s cool you bring your daughter with you, when ours were small, we would plant “treasure” in the sand at the beach for them to find! Those pesky beach pixies 🧚♀️ 😂
You should come to the gold belt here in Northern California. I’ve panned at Marshall gold state discovery park which is extremely overworked. Maybe you can find a stream near auburn, placerville, or Jackson. I haven’t found anything in the mother lode area yet but I’m sure you will!

You can't just put up a sluice box in VT. You can use a shaker but you have to buy a permit every year for 25.00. If you're from out of state you will get written up and fined for sure.
