    - What is the function of the clutch apply plate?
    - What is the function of a clutch piston?
    - What is the function of the clutch piston return springs?
    - What forces make the clutch piston move?
    - What is the purpose of a clutch wavy plate?
    - Why do you think air checking clutch pistons is a good idea?
    - Select one: How far did the clutch piston move in the air-checking portion of the video? A tiny amount, a moderate amount, a large amount, or it varied with each clutch pack.
    - The amount of clutch piston movement indicates the clutch pack clearance when the clutch pack is released. Is clutch pack clearance adjustable?
    - What is the purpose of one-way devices?

    I'm not a student, just an industrial mechanic by trade (formerly known as a millwright), but still enjoying these educational videos very much. One question: what is usually the pressure applied by that B2 brake piston by the hydraulic system?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  Před 4 lety

      Thank you. I believe the fluid pressure applied to that brake can be anywhere from 70 - 280 psi (482-1930 kPa) based upon the engine load.

    • @oijhhytdirhrbru
      @oijhhytdirhrbru Před rokem

      The 10 speed transmission is developed based on ZF's 8HP gen2, and you can find similar B1, B2 brakes design with wave separate springs.
      The B2 brake actually has two set of springs, one for the wave springs to separate clutches plates evenly(to reduce drag torque when the brake is open, also benefit for NVH), and the other one is a set of coil springs to help reset the piston.

  • @FilterYT
    @FilterYT Před 4 měsíci

    You're the best thanks again! It is easy to visualize the break function piston in that the piston is not rotating and the piston is applying pressure to the plate that is also not moving. How does clutch piston apply force to the pressure plate of a rotating clutch pack?

    Wow, you have a cut open version of the A343F Toyota trans. I have one in my 97 Land Cruiser that still seems to be in good condition but I'm trying to find info on it. Wish I could attend your transmission class just to get up to speed. I have a 2005 Chevy 3500 Duramax, Allison 1000 trans. Want to add a torque converter with the billet cover, go through the clutches and add the 5-6 speed conversion kit. Seems like there should be a work around on the valve body and TCM reprogramming. I see that you have videos on several vehicles I own. The Lexus 8 speed video was great, I have a 2014 LS460 L AWD and it uses a variant of that trans, just a deeper final, think it's like 3.14. And then a Toyota 2013 V-6 which you also cover in details. At 66, I'm running outta time. Haaa.

Automatics enable us to see drivers with a drink in one hand and a burger in the other, something we don't see in countries with less or no automatics prevalent. Also manuals, except for needing clutches replaced, almost never break

Maybe that's why motorbike wheel spins slowly when bike is on the center stand, not in a gear and I rev it a bit. A bit of friction between steel and fiber plates as they usually don't have these elements.

    • @oijhhytdirhrbru
      @oijhhytdirhrbru Před rokem

      It has a genius planetary gear set design through a multiple generations of computation instead of traditional planet gear sets like Lepelletier, CR-CR, Simpson, achieving a well balanced design of: (1) four degrees of freedom. (2) optimized step ratio of each gear and the overall gear ratio(7.0~8.6). (3)low torque loss, only 2 clutches/brakes open at every gear. (4) quick and agile shift(skipping gears is almost possible in every gear) for sportiness.
      With the help of the wave separation springs and the integrated centrifugal pendulum in the DMF, the efficiency is increased further more.
      ZF has also registered multiple patents about 8 speed designs using traditional planet gear sets before 2010, and it has find none of them are match for the actual 8 speed design.
      EPA has published a benchmark(by FEV) on Gen1 8HP and several other transmissions(incl Aisin Gen2 transverse 8 speed), confirming its excellent efficiency.
