how am i just now discovering this! love to hear elvis sing little red book. i've heard some of the other tracks but i didnt realize the whole performance was available!
I think this is the peak of Costello's career. It has lacked direction and great songs since then. And it's not like he spent the 90s writing classics, either. Can't beat the guy live, though.
Too bad the Sessions At West 54th Street video hasn't been released on DVD. This was a great partnership. That goes for the Allen Toussaint record also. Elvis' ego didn't get in the way of their genius.
You just never know. This worked wonderfully. Just like Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. I didn't think that would work but it worked beautifully as well.
This song was on Elvis Costello "Painted From Memory" which is an exceptional album. That's one of the best studio albums of the last 25 years. As far as live, I'm not sure.
Two genius songwriters of the 20th century collaborate. And Elvis's voice has never sounded better. A work of art.
