RIP Burt, thanks for painting those memories.
Without doubt, one of the greatest albums ever. When it came out in 1998 I listened to it everyday for whole year. I was obsessed by this album. It spoke to me so much; the longing, the heartbreak, its existential observation on relationships. And yet at the time I thought I was the only who held this album in such high regard. What a joy it was to know that years later other people would be expressing the same admiration and how much it's meant to them over the years.
I too listened to it throughout the late 1990s, didn't it win a Grammy?
One of my favorite albums of all time. An incredible partnership between two musical greats.
Yeah, I bought this album the day it came out and have never really stopped listening to it -- nearly a quarter century. How I wished there would be another but have long since given up that could possibly happen. But what a gift that would be.
Some of the best work both of these artists have done in their careers!

I have always been in love with Burts music!! I used to sing much of his songs, when I was a teenager. I sang them to my friends! I loved how Deyone Warwick sang his music. I could sing like her then,can't now ,lol.

Saw this tour when it came thru Chicago. Big Elvis fan, big Burt admirer thru the years.
The video quality is atrocious and the ads are insanely obtrusive, but well worth the watching because of the discussions of EC's and Burt's collaboration. Both were at the top of their game and brought out the best in each other. Their mutual admiration shows.
I'm a huge EC fan because I love his lyrics. He has said his songs begin with the written word. Here, it's the other way around and it appears he really had to work at it. He has a line in here where it calls the collaboration "pleasant torture", which cracks Burt up.
These songs may not be to everyone's taste --EC once described them as "anguished ballads"--but EC's voice never sounded better than on this record. (I saw him and Nick Lowe last night and I doubt he could, at 69, sing these as well today. He didn't try, by the way...)
Anyway, when I saw this tour at the Auditorium in Chicago it was just like depicted here, full orchestra, backup singers and excellent acoustics. EC and Burt each did a solo set of their own stuff, too. After the show, we hung out by the stage door and both came out and signed autographs.
In sum, great show, great LP. "Toledo" won a Grammy. Give it a full listen. It will grow on you.

Looks like it was a good show/documentary. Was the original source a UHF station and taped using an old VHS cassette?

Great album! Elvis over sings though. And Burt is far from easy listening. He created some of the most beautiful music of the era, and anything that beautiful would be dismissed in the fa E of rock n roll funk punk and electronic music... In hindsight you can't misunderstand the greatness of Bacharach.

Frank Sinatra once asked Burt to do an album with him and when Burt said he was busy working on Promises, Frank just said 'oh just forget it'.... I can almost hear Frank Singing these. Like Warertown
