I'm 60 and i'm still wondering what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I've being in Photography (for fun cause I need to work, which I did: 20 years in finance) until a few years ago when I discovered videography. I retired few years ago and started learning videos stuff. I realise that I lack real talent but who cares, I loved it and it is a great way to spend time and travel !!!
Maybe talent doesn't exist. People only see the result of several years of hard work and dedication. That's what they call talent.
@@baribalthebear Same with 'lucky'. I told my young boys that there was no such thing as luck. 'Luck' is preparation meeting opportunity. Funny how the hardest working people are usually the most lucky, isn't it?!
Love your humbleness. I quit my Phd and became a video editor, and never regretted it a bit. I realized with time our dreams and passion changes. It was the biggest decision of my life and am so much more happy...It's never too late to change career.. 😊
LOL
I'm sitting on the couch, drinking coffee and trying to decide the next steps in my life and I'm 60.
with no car😆
Good for you man. We only get 1 life on this planet.
You’re not alone! 😂 I’m 35 and I quit my previous job to become a VFX/Video creator artist.
I had zero knowledge about it a few months ago, and now I begin to understand more. All and everyone think it’s wasting time, but I want to do what I want.
Before now, I was doing everything to survive, but as you said, no one knows what is tomorrow, so I guess, you need to do only things you like. I had a very good job, high income, but now I understand I’m gonna start from low paid jobs. The only thing I’m upset is, why all those software and gigs weren’t available in my 20’s.
So people, don’t wait for an opportunity, MAKE OPPORTUNITY 😊
A change is gonna come! Thanks, Joris! Salutations from astonishingly wet and sorta weirdly back to normal Ireland! ☘☮🤘🏽🤠👍🏽☮☘
Been there before 😉! I wish I'd found Mike Horn's quote before: “To start moving, you just need to have 5% of the answers to your questions, the other 95% come along the way. Those who want 100% of the answers to start moving remain stuck.”
"Don't wait for the next week, Next week you'll be 80 or dead". This hits me hard.
If there's one thing I've learned, it's that the older you get, the faster time passes. A year starts to feel like a month 😵💫💯🔥
@@JorisHermans I can relate 80% of the things you've said in the video with me. 💯💯
And that other 20% is what you need to write your own story! 🔥🫡
@@JorisHermans Hah. Yeah bruh. You're an inspiration for me, thanks for being so honest. ✌️✌️
This is a beautiful story and put together so well. I left my high profile engineering job about 5 months ago and I’ve been pursuing self employment in the photo / video space. I have days when I think I made a terrible mistake. I have other days when I’m so damn grateful I made the leap. Lots of ups and downs so far but one thing that keeps me motivated is that I finally AM chasing the dream after so many years. Good luck to you sir and all of those out there figuring things out. We got this ❤️💪
💯👊🏻💥
Shot I’m 25 and feel more lost then ever. I am just beyond scared. I am responsible for 3 kids and my wife. In my mind I can’t afford to take the leap of faith ! Love this story and thank you for being real. I appreciate you sharing
I used to be an aircraft mechanic, I knew I didn't want to be one the rest of my life so I started to prepare my changes while working. Finished my degree while also chipping away at my photography/Video skills. At 41 years old I'm still in the beginning stages but the skills I developed before making the change helped with the transition.
I'm also ready for that December video drop haha.
Congrats!!! I'm 46, just started a CZcams Channel less then 4 weeks ago and am using a cartoon like Avatar talking about topics like Comic Books, Sports Cards and LEGO 🤣🤣🤣....Never thought I would be here but having a ton of fun and learning even more! Wish you all the best with whatever you pursue! 🤓

25 years ago I wanted to be an IT Technician and work with computers. I later became a website programmer. What I saw the potential of the server side language called PHP and a CMS called PHP Nuke, I had ideas about building something similar to Facebook, but Mark Z got there first.
Needing a change in my life in my late 20s, I did want others couldn’t believe. Tried to stop me. I wanted to become a social worker and came up with a 5 year plan. It meant going back to college and later university. I did it in 5 years and got a few social worker jobs.
However, whilst at university, I got involved in live music promotion and photography. My last job as a social worker was in 2018. I’m now self employed and aged 44. I work as a photographer and I promote live music. I still remember the skills and have the passion of a social worker, but I have chosen to apply them differently in what I do in life
Joris, thanks for sharing your story
Great example how content creators find their passion. I’m 41 and happy I started with CZcams in 2022, better late than never. So lets do it 🎥🚀
Thanks Joris as always great and fun video.🎉😂
39, sold a successful company (with employees) just because I wasn't happy, even if it was my own company. Couldn't have said it better.
Thanks so much for another inspiring video Joris.
That video helps a lot.
Thank you my friend
Excellent advice, straight to the point. I agree 100% with everything you said.
Dawm!! I needed to hear this . Congratulations 🎊 👏🏼
Thank you for sharing your story. It is very inspiring, and you are so right to say not to wait. We don't always know if we have a tomorrow of next week.
Great advice...really need that one. Very realistic
Thank you so much for sharing, I am about to drop out from my college and I was clear and how to do it. And you gave me more confidence, that I was going in right direction. THANK YOU
I like this video. It's sincere and friendly.
I think you got 2 years beautiful memories. Have a nice life!
Great video Joris! I loved hearing your backstory and there was some great advice in there. Thanks for sharing!
Joris, you are a kick ass cool guy with a genuine authentic soul. Just wanted to say that. Carry on! Greetings from another Belgian rainy village :)
Wise and real advice! Thank you for making!
And thank YOU for watching 🙏🏻🔥
Great video, Joris!
This was one of your best videos. Or at least one of my favorite. Great job!
Much appreciated! 🙏🏻🔥
We love your videos, they helped out us already a lot, we are filming just for fun and have only pretty low equipment but we try our best 😅
tx u sir, u inspiring me to go further to my dream yah i dont know my dream is my real dream ! now my career is someone who really dream at, but not me. u have done great in ur adventure ! tx man. will get out m comfort zone soon
Love this bro!
Very timely vid, I gave my notice to a career job paying very well last week to step out in faith and start a videography business and some other endeavors. That was an encouraging video to watch, I’ve been that person who’s looking at the turning point with fear, but I have this sense once I get past it, I’ll look back like you said and it will be freeing. Thanks man!
what a great video Joris!
Thanks! 🙏🏻
Love your content!
Great video. I quit my job and i'm traveling the word starting 2023.
Thanks for the inspiration. Zen Studios is my business in photography and It is now mt full time gig. No more JOB!
Great job, loved it. 👍
Thank you for your candor, you come across as authentic and that is what making content is really all about! Cheers bro!!!!
Yep! I come with a certificate of authenticity 🙏🏻😅
Very well explained....I changed everything with 45 and it was bumpi but the best thing I could have done! Turning 50 next year and have a small film production company now and make a living doing it and still changing as much as possible to keep me exited! Can only encourage everyone to give it a try if you're not satisfied with what you do or how you're living! JUST DO IT 😃😅....I like that you encourage people....great stuff...wish you the most possible success
What a brilliant story telling Bravo !
I am going through same transition
👊 good advice. And the editing was nice 👍
Inspired 🔥
This video is soo on point, because I am a step before a big change in my life. I really appreciate you shared your story with us/with me. I feel like the stress and all of those doubts I feel right now, will make my life better at the end. I assume I have to break the routine of my life, to make it more satisfying and fullfilling. Thanks a lot for this Vid Mate! 👊
Thanks for the hope.
Lekker bezig Joris. Blijf je dromen volgen. Every battle worthwhile is uphill.
💯💥
Definitly hope that next week I'm not 80 or dead haha 😅 I do really understand you and struggle with finding out the exact route I want to take myself too. Sometimes I think only time will tell and I'm creating content when I feel like it, but other times I feel like I should plan out more, make more videos.. it's tricky to really find out what you want yourself but i love that you point out that we should put ourselves outside of our comfort zone! Thanks for this video, will remember this one 💪
Good to hear others experiences, i also want to be self-employed but still few years away from it but i know i want it for some years already. Never liked working for others and making money for them, focus on yourself. Be your own king. GL with the channel.
Excellent . Très inspirant 🎉
Nice video. Totally agree, need to try to do, what you want and dream about. I started the van life on my 35 y.o.this year with explore Europe . And after 6 months, it’s completely different From what I was expecting(it’s a tough). It’s an experience, life is too short to spend your time doing things, which don’t like ,. or just dream.
Great video
I love you man! i like your humor! stay hungry!
Thank you. I think that for a lot of us, the dream is financial freedom. Maybe that's the good starting point in anything we do. Less control to the systems around us and owning our actions and using the system instead.
love your videos man😎
Hey, man, awesome video! I like your point that sometimes our dreams transform when we start to implement it into real life. I am on edge of 35yo, so I am having a close thoughts you’ve just sounded :)
💯 Dreams might also turn into nightmares or you might just wake up from your dream at some point. 🤷🏻♂️
Great video, good honest talk. 38 here and i have not figured shit out neither. But the thing is change can also go the wrong way :)
That's why you shouldn't do things recklessly. Small steps you take today beat huge leaps you're planning to take next week.
Interesting summary! And I prefer someone talking about the actual story behind “quit your job and follow you dreams” instead of selling a fairytale, which couldn’t work out for everybody!
I am in the middle of this journey and enjoy it so much (traveling & creating content), but after many years at a big cooperation I am really looking forward to self employment. Let’s see in which direction this is going 😊
Your videos are really cool man! Super interesting! And I saw you were from Belgium? Hell yeaaah it makes me proud to be belgian as well hahah! Keep going my friend!
Always nice to meet fellow Belgians in the comments 😎🇧🇪🍻
Woah! I've been following you for a few months and just came across this video. It seems like targeted to me. A few months ago I actually did the same thing, left everything behind trying to pursue a different kind of life. The cool thing is that I've kinda reached the same conclusions about self employment. It might look fake but I've been documenting it on my channel lol. Thanks for sharing it. I've learned a lot from your content and these words have resonated in my mind even more!
Good video
when he said "when you are in your twenties...." damn, How I wish I could turn back time. I want to travel but at the age of 37, back pains and knees stop me from doing what I love. Why humans are so fragile
I'm 36 and started with photo and videography in 2022, currently i'm happy with my job. If it happens that my channel will grow and i can make a passive income then i would stick to full content creator. It also depends if you have kids i think, i have 3 kids and you want to be sure to have a steady income before quiting the 9 to 5 job.
backpain acting was pure gold.
FYI my back is fine. 😅 Still no back pains. 🤞🏻
Such honesty 🙏..
Thanks for that, Joris, and for this video too 🤘.
Great advice man 🙏.
And on a personal, completely selfish note, I'm so glad you two guys travelled...that you pushed through that "turning point" .. because we now have you and your 🔥 content 😁🤘.
Cheers as always, Joris 🙏
#DOIT!!!!!! 💪
("....next week you'll be 80....or dead!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏👏)
One year feels much shorter now compared to when I was 16.🤔 Crazy! 😅😵💫
@@JorisHermans 🤣🤣🤣...tell me about it 🙄. I recently turned 44 so every minute feels like a week 🤣.
Ahhh the joys of growing old (dis)gracefully 😁🤘❤️
Gosh this speaks to me so much , i'm 3 months into a sabbatical from my work ( 15 years in , I'm 35 ... ) to pursue a career in photography/videography/editing and the turning point is so true. I was scared to death to jump , now that i think about it i just kinna wish i did it sooner. I was hiding from the world and passion in a fear of instability, turns out boredom of a " normal employee life " is quite unstable. * Click
When I meet young teens I always ask them; "Hey, serious question; have you decided what you want to be when you grow up yet?" and then watch the panic start to set in before I continue "'Cuz i'm still looking for ideas!" I'm a grey beard, 60 year old retired Navy Chief, teacher, world explorer, car builder, academic, and former intelligence analyst. So when they hear that somebody, as experienced as I am, is still looking for new things to do it inspires them. I just tell them to make sure they study how to understand statistics and learn critical thinking skills and they will turn out just fine, whatever they decide to do. And I really am still looking for the next thing to do!!
Inspiring comment. Thanks🙏🏻🔥
Might want to analyse thoroughly beforehand haha
Nice video!
Ik denk dat je link naast Photo editing niet meer werkt.
Great inspiration Jesus of CZcams !!!

Ha hahaha, I have 3 kids, a lot of bills and a job which I want to change, but I still looking for myself and learning a lot. Oh, I’m 35😊
Honestly I feel like these days it’s next to impossible to make it as a photographer/videographer without getting a big following in any of the social platforms. Unless you work in very niche markets/locations and genres.
I agree that it's more difficult. Digital changed everything. Everyone is a photographer/videographer now.
What were your projects exactly, can you brief about it. I am curios.

Me too Brother, I am old also.
This ended up being a life story lol.
I started this part of my life late, I was 33-34 when I decided I needed a creative outlet for my sanity and depression. Got a cheap $200 camera. When I decided I enjoyed photography & videography, I decided to take the plunge. I am a recent grad from Full Sail University with a Bachelor's in Digital Cinematography. I am on the downward slope to 40 now & going after a Master's in Entertainment Business Management. My end goal for the past 5 years, has been to get the skills I need to run a production studio (Short Films/Documentaries, Photography, Rebranding/Commercial services, Twitch/YT, Script/Book Publishing, Podcasts, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics /VFX, Editing services & Voice Over work. (Music producing, that's something I am not sure of, yet.) A one-man show at the moment but well on my way to a Production House. Being able to work anywhere, do things I want to do, and experience the world. My wife and I had kids early in our marriage, so we were not able to travel like our friends just out of High School. The kids are 18 & 16 now, the 18 is a graphic designer/digital artist. She takes commissions on an art site and wants to get an English degree to be a Book Editor (Possibly I'll hire her myself). And the 16 yr old son is unsure what he wants to do right now. Just wants to play games, but not stream them online. So, at least, I made sure my kids at least knew of a few ways to monetize their skills outside a 9-5, even if they are unable to do it as a full-time job.
Joris.... I love 💘 it! Thank you for sharing!
