  • In this video, I spray tintable raptor liner with gunmetal pearl paint color code PQ7.
    I ordered the paint from TCP Global over the phone by ordering a pint and giving them the factory paint code to custom mix. They also have plenty of colors ready to choose from. They are located in California. Call them at: 858-909-2110
    Mixture Ratio:
    1 bottle raptor liner
    8 oz. hardener
    3 oz. Paint tint
    I almost used 3 fully mixed bottles
    I sprayed at 50psi, approx. 12-18 inches away.
    I waited 10-15min between coats to allow curing.
    I cleaned the gun by spraying lacquer thinner through it.
    I unmasked and untaped the Jeep after cleaning the gun while the raptor liner was still curing and not hard yet in order to avoid cracking, peeling, or chipping. This resulted in clean professional paint lines!!

    So glad I came across this video. I have a Gunmetal Pearl TJ and I’ve been wanting to paint match my off-road trailer. Looks like this is the route I’ll go.

    Looks good. I think you should have gotten rid of that rust or at least put some converter on it. With just primer and Raptor, it’ll probably be a problem again at some point.
    Nice work overall.
    Edit: Man, I just noticed that you didn’t wear a respirator. Not a good choice. Please protect yourself better. That stuff is very poisonous.

      Not a bad idea. It’s been about 3 years and still holding up great. Prep is the most important for sure.

    Nobody ever paints the underside of the hood...you forever have to look at that eyesore every time it's opened.

  • @chriswasson8414
    @chriswasson8414 Před 8 měsíci +2

    If you had to unbolt hood, how would the liner effect that?

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před 8 měsíci +1

      You would probably have to re-coat the bolts after unbolting. The liner can be sprayed, painted, or dabbed back on with a sponge. It’s easy to apply

    I have a 1999 TJ currently painted in PQ7 Gunmetal Pearl. I want to do the same as you and paint the same color with Raptor Liner. How many pints did f the base color did you use?

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Only needed one pint PQ7. Mix 3oz per bottle. Used 4 bottles for a total of 12oz of paint. I might have the other pint leftover if you want it, send me a message back.

    How was the overspray in the garage? Did it get on stuff you didn’t cover? I’ve done an hvlp spray and it sent out a pretty good cloud. Coated my garage door windows since I didn’t cover them.

    Greatly detailed vid. Did you also bed lined the dash board and door panels in black? The color I want is the olive(army) green, but that gunmetal sure is popping(may have to change my mind). Thanks for sharing.

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před rokem

      Thanks for watching! I used spray paint called Duplicolor vinyl and fabric on the dash, door panels, console (all plastic) and seat belts and rollbar padding in another video. Whatever color you decide to mix and tint your bedliner, it will definitely pop if you have a metallic flake color in it like gunmetal pearl.

    Hey. I stumbled onto this post and wanted to see if you could tell me how you were able to order this color? I know it was a few years ago but when I contacted TCP they told me they couldn't help me. I provided them with the number on your can. Wondering if maybe I didn't communicate what I needed so they could provide me with the gunmetal pearl color. Thanks!

    Awesome channel... Is mud and dirt hard to get off when the raptor liner? I was thinking about just doing my hood (classic jeep clearcoat peeling). Thanks!

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před rokem +1

      Thanks! I just hose off mud and dirt or let the rain hit it. and only use soap and brush maybe twice a year just to get the dirt stains completely out.

    Did you have any issues with blotchy lines? I've seen so many bed liner paints jobs and many have stripes all over from spraying. Yours looks like it came out very even no??

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před rokem +1

      No issues, I kept an even spray pattern holding the sprayer not too close and took my time between coats. Came out nice and even

    Great job on the video and the project! Thanks for the compressor comment on psi. I’ve got mine prepped and ready to spray but could not find any info on psi, Curious now that’s it’s been applied for a while, how’s it holding up? Any peeling or chipping or any further tips for someone about to tackle this project??? Thanks again

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Dave. My biggest piece of advice is don’t be afraid of spraying thick coats. The thicker the better in my opinion. The Raptor liner has held up amazing. The psi really helped me get a smoother finish that isn’t rough or scratch your skin. The only spots of wear and tear are where the hood makes contact with the Metalcloak fenders on the side. I’ve got two tiny scrape marks from opening and closing the hood and I guess the vibrations while driving and wheeling, but it’s not visible with the hood closed. I have zero complaints or regrets with raptor liner. Good luck!

      Hey Dave I sprayed my TJ with Black Raptor liner. I sprayed at 60 psi. I would strongly recommend that you purchase the Upol Adjustable Pro spray gun. It runs about $80 but well worth the money. It will give you a finer finish. I sprayed it at 3 turns out on the spray gun. 10 liters I sprayed the inside tub. All the exterior, full doors and hardtop. It really came out great. I attached a video clip if you want to check it out.

    I plan on doing mine this spring. Going to try and match the original Electric Lime Green. looks better than it sounds. Raptor website claims 10 bottles to cover a Jeep. You only used 3? It looks great. Also Raptor claims that metal and pearl effects are usually lost in Raptor liner. Did any of you pearl show at all? Or just a pure color match?

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před 2 lety +1

      My color does have a little bit of metallic pearl flake in the sun just like the original paint job, not the typical flat color. It wasn’t lost in the raptor liner. I swear this stuff is magic. And yes I used 3 bottles on the body alone but I didn’t spray front fenders. 10 would be way too much for a jeep even if you’re caking it on thick. I used the 4th bottle on the doors and tailgate separately the next day.

    How many gallons is your compressor? I've seen this done with a 6 gallon compressor with no prob

    • @cwhall5430
      @cwhall5430 Před 2 lety +1

      I ask because I'm waiting for the rain to pass and will be shooting my H2 tinted with a color "carbon fiber metallic" and doing bumpers, grill, roof, center of hood, and wiper cowl in a "jet black metallic". Using the Raptor Liner " traction adder" packs on my bumpers and fender modelings, adds more texture. Figured it should look great.

    • @franksgarage13
      @franksgarage13  Před 2 lety

      H2 will look badass.. i used a 21gallon. I’ve heard some say that 6 gallon works and some say doesn’t keep up. From my experience, 6 gallon might take longer to spray just because it will be running constantly to keep up if you’re spraying 45-60psi which is the psi I used for the texture I got.

      I have done several projects painting with Raptor. I would recommend a 20gal+ compressor if painting a vehicle. You need constant pressure
