the thing is, David played a really important role - he came at it at a different angle, as a comedian. He wasn’t just looking at conventional skill and talent, he enjoyed the people who, while maybe not fantastic dancers/singers/whatever, were incredibly entertaining. I think aside from just enjoying it and being a fun and funny guy, he understood that entertaining people is hard and saw value in the people who were getting a good reaction from the audience - kind of transforming people into icons who may have otherwise been laughing stocks. he made the show so much more interesting with his laughter and enjoyment of the unconventional stuff. It was a better show for his presence. It was helped by his dynamic with Simon, no doubt.
Gonna miss this guy. The only reason why I watch BGT.
