  • Mitori seemed to be quite famous among the fans. But well, scripts have been done, played, and all about that. ...Until now. WishMakers took the challenge and recreated WHOLE Mitori fight in actual Touhou 11. Incredible.
    Based on original Danmakufu 0.12m script - here goes (in)famous fight against Nitori's "sister".

    This patch has been a fun little project on and off for the past few months. I finished the stage, then the boss nons...then a whole lot of nothing for like 4 months... now it's out!
    This mod aimed to be as accurate as I could get to the original 0.12m script, though a couple things were changed:
    - Some stage enemy patterns were changed to make the stage a bit more exciting and less of a cookie cutter of the original Ex stage (even though it still kinda is...)
    - On the fourth spell, I made the red and purple butterflies a bit more dense. The spell was a bit too easy with the original density.
    - On the Embers of Love knockoff, the flames are completely hardcoded so they only work with heart bullets!! Aaaaaaaaah! This means that I not only couldn't make them butterflies, but I couldn't get the icicle waves to look exactly as I wanted them to be. There were several other spells with hardcoded restrictions that I got around (Yuugi's second spell, Sub Cucumber) but trying to recreate this one wasn't working out.
    - In addition to the above change from the original, in the survival, the roses are a hardcoded part of that spell, I couldn't change them to bubbles or a custom color. Unlike Embers where I tried to make it work, the restrictions of ECL made this one impossible so I never even tried. (Minor correction here: I could've by editing the shot sheet but bubbles are not the same size, and changing the rects would've been annoying and possibly broken other things. Chose not to risk it.)
    While this project was very interesting and fun, ECL brought just as much headaches as it does joys. Some things felt really satisfying to make, whereas others felt like I was slamming my head against the door. I don't foresee myself using ECL for too many more projects (only one script I've been thinking of doing comes to mind). But it's still been a very fun experiment.
    I say this in the readme too, but a couple people (especially those in the ZUNcode server) may be wondering... where's Mitori's Danmaku Bounded Field equivalent from the beta Mitori script?? I decided not only was the script enough of a challenge on its own, but that she didn't really need it. Maybe in the future.

    I like what WishMakers did with this, a lot of the attacks are less cruel than in the original Phantasm while remaining faithful, and seeing the classic script in SA's own engine was a pretty great experience. Though Subterranean Cucumber really bothers me, with how the orbs appear behind the smaller bullets instead of over them...

      Yeah, unfortunately I couldn't do anything about that. Bubbles are hardcoded to render behind those bullets, likely for Z sorting purposes. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

      ohh, makes sense that it's hardcoded. smaller bullets being visible on top of larger bullets is a bullet hell game design principle that ZUN must've always wanted to uphold in his games

      @Black Pug I know you didn't mean it this way but I've been making scripts for *years* so yes I know about these design aspects and you don't need to talk down to me lol.
      I do think in terms of the stage that things die too quickly and there's a bit too much dead time, but it's easier to see that when someone is playing pretty close to optimally. I was designing this stage around multiple skill levels here.
      A lot of your comments either come down to intentional design decisions, something that I couldn't do in ECL's limitations, or... just plain wrong.
      Daruma still works just fine, you couldn't see the actual mechanic work since Creepy played the card right. I gave the card more leeway in forming walls in exchange for the walls being a bit more extreme, but I could probably change that to fit closer to the original.
      I couldn't make the fireballs shake like in the original, and honestly I'm fairly sure it was just a visual glitch from getting the rects wrong that happened to work in its favor.
      I do think Embers is a bit too hard but also the explosion range is a little bit deceptive - you can get closer to them than it looks, but I still think the card deserves a nerf anyway.
      A lot of things were cases that I couldn't completely match the original 1 to 1, so in those cases I thought it was better to put my own spin on the implementation instead.
      Obviously I can't please everyone (your critique is quite a lot lmao) but that's what makes a remake so difficult.

    I agree with you, creepy. Its truly incredible. This is easily one of my very favorite scripts ever. I cant wait to play this version.
    Also, Yuugi in that blue dress is the best.

      The survival enforces - in each phase, in order - no vertical movement, no horizontal and no focused. So, every time it teleports you into certain position once phase starts.

    Hello, do you happen to know what is the title of touhou fanmade game where the stage title (that shown in the start of the stage) slowly falling and can kill the you if you don't dodge it?
    I saw it a long time ago, forget the title, even worse I forget who is the boss enemy at that game.

    So in "Hated Red Kappa", what's stopping the player from just hanging out in the middle of an empty square? Are the hiyboxes actually large enough? Here I wouldn't be surprised if they are but in the original I always felt like there should have been more than enough space to do so.

      For the last phase of this survival you would want to sit still between bullets, but it's actually a bad idea. Once Mitori catches up to you it will fire bubbles at your position, so you'd be dead.
