  • Is it permissible for women to wear sandals that expose their feet? What do the scholars say about this? Are feet considered awrah or not?
Some scholars consider feet part of the awrah, others do not. The strongest opinion is that feet are not part of the awrah. Yet it is better to cover them.
Shaykh Waleed Basyouni further answers the question.

JazakAllahu khair for clarifying this issue. It’s so hot with all of our modest clothes on , at least I don’t have to feel guilty wearing sandals outside in the summertime . May Allah protect us and grant us forgiveness and mercy

Jazakallah Khair. Many a times I go outside without my socks and feel very guilty. Now I know that at least it's not awrah. But like it has been mentioned, of course it'd be best to keep the feet covered as much as possible, in shaa Allah.

Many scholars say its obligatory to cover the feet, too. Becsuse of this hadith
It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever lets his garment drag out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection.” Umm Salamah said: What should women do with their hems? He said: “They should let them down a hand span.” She said: Then their feet will show. He said: “Then let it down a cubit, but no more than that.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi (1731); he said: This is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. Also narrated by al-Nasaa’i (5336). The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 1864.

When the commandment was made for men to raise garment above ankles the wife of the messenger was concerned and said “what about us women” the messenger said lengthen it by handspan…. Clearly Sahih evidence showing the wife of the messenger Umm salamah was worried the awrah would be exposed. Also the ayat whixh says don’t strike feet, if womens feet were uncovered they wouldn’t need to strike to show them as they’re already on show, this shows they were covered whixh why they struck foot to get attention… all evidences incline towards covering and the opinion of one scholar isn’t proof.
