      @@Scholarslore The way I see it going, Nurgle has all the time and all the materials in the world to keep testing plagues on the Tyranids until every sector he does battle in has a million plagues with a million more to come just floating around and the Tyranids need to spend biomass just to move through it.
      Remember: biomass still uses energy to be immune to something and that kind of energy is taken away form producing troops and focusing on killing power. If anything will get Nurgle excited it's the 'Nids

      @@Scholarslore My favourite possibility is that the Tyranids poke the warp a bit too hard and a bit too deep, stirring up currents in the deep warp and drawing out something ancient, terrifying, and fully capable of nullifying or even consuming the shadow they create.
      Also an interesting aspect of this could be the awakening of something akin to forgotten gods, possibly... Old Ones who may have turned into warp entities. Since we know so little of the deep warp, there are far more possible terrors that could be the ideal weapon to combat Tyranid forces.
      In a perfect scenario, one or more such creatures step at least partly into the material plane--or maybe just follow the shadow to its source--and directly attack the core forces beyond the galaxy, crippling the tyranids by fully cutting off any reinforcements.

  • @Kirhean
    @Kirhean Před měsícem +373

    I suspect that Kronos is not merely a weapon against chaos. But, rather, it is the hive mind attempting to study how the warp interacts with reality.
    From the Tyranid perspective, it is faced with a seemingly unexpected and unending feast which it cannot consume. But psykers can bring those energies into reality. It knows how to make psykers now, and it's figured out how to consume life energy (via eating the infinity circuits). But what it really wants is to figure out how to consume warp energy. Thats why it so gleefully hunts down specific individuals with psychic power...it wants to consume them to further it's understanding of their link to the warp.
    This is why it's headed to the Eye of Terror. It is learning everything it can about the warp so that it can enter the immaterium and attempt to feast on the limitless ocean of souls.

Maybe the hive mind fears being a "divided" consciousness most of all, but of course to humans that is all we have ever known. A demon that manages to encompass that concept might scare the hell out of any Tyranid but it would not be feared at all by the "normal" races.

    Fun additional fact: the short story War in the Museum has a tech priest discussing the Shadow with Trazyn the Infinite, and he notes that the Shadow can actually cause technology to go haywire too. The implication being that whilst here we are talking about how the Shadow can be used to weaken Warp-based opposition, if the Necrons become too annoying to the Hive Fleets they may well weaponise the Shadow to disrupt Necron technology on a similarly large scale.
    The sheer other-ness of the Tyranids makes anything that isn’t a Tyranid start to unravel, be that sanity, Warp energies or technology.

    The best way to stop wasteful loss of biomass to the warp and its denizens, would be to close the eye of terror. Kronos has a simple job, relativistically speaking. Surround the eye, contain the breach, and slowly strangle its presence under their shadow.
    Quite simple strategy. Kronos' task is to be the gatekeepers of hell and to shut that door as resource conservative as possible. They do not neccessarily need to succeed in closing it entirely. Just to bar its influence and quarantine it long enough to devour the rest of the galaxy before moving on.

As for necrons we've seen Nids eat small amounts of rocks and metals. Right now there is no real reason for the hive mind to devote the resources to produce a counter necron fleet. Even if it couldn't if the necron proved a threat or roadblock to its goal why wouldn't it devote resources to destroying them? People counter with "well they only think about net gain of biomass" exactly. If the Hive Mind calculated that losing biomass now destroying the necron would mean a higher amount later then the calculation says attack. Plus they adapt to everything, they made a poison that could kill Plague Marines, they landed organisms onto a forge world not knowing it was an acid ocean. Next attack featured bioforms that could swim in flesh melting toxins. Is it really so much of a stretch to believe that if given enough exposure they could create a bioform that could disrupt necron recall of damaged forms, or creating a microbe that ate living metal and infect a tomb?

      @@ethanhilot Your welcome - when I had first heard the expression and tried to remember it my brain went to "subhum@n" as well. The only reason I knew it couldn't be that is me being german and therefore somewhat sensitized to certain speech conventions - and hearing "subhum@n" spoken unironically immidiatly rings the nazi alarm bells for a german.
      Even the expression "Selektion" ("selection") which had been completly neutral before the nazis gets avoided/has gotten fully replaced by exclusivly using an alternative germanic form instead because the nazis applied the latin form for the, well, _selection_ of victims into those forfeit to get killed immidiatly and those "suited for slave labour" following arrival in the death camps.
      If that's what happened to an at bottom line neutral expression as it remained to be in non-culprit/english speaking nations imagine the taste an expression like "subhum@n" leaves behind with not only modern germans but anybody familiar with the details of the nazi regime..
      It's also extremly weird to hear "caucasian" used as an expression for "of european descent" in the US and only in the US because the expression got coined by a german scholar in the 1700's just to get rejected by the rest of the scientific community because it had been ridiculously racist _even at the time:_
      This guy was a philologist who had found some sources saying that in the Persian Empire slaves from the Caucasus region had been in high demand because they supposedly had been "the most beautiful people anybody had ever seen" with a "remarkably light skin tone" - so for him things had been very obvious:
      _More attractive and lighter in skin tone than anybody else? This has to refer to "white european" populations in the Caucasus bece who would be more beautiful and light-skinned than us europeans after all?_
      It carries an inherent connotation of supposed european superiority based on nothing but some vague ancient references to some beautiful people - only in the US where "caucasian" actually managed to establish and stick around because "beautiful and pale" seemed to be the perfect descriptor because being "non-caucasian" inherently implied being "non-pale" and therefore "non-attractive" i.e. "black".
      Of course this doesn't make any sense because there is no such thing as "human races" in light of the fact that "races" is a term from animal breeding while human skin tone and phenotype are a gradient without sharp divisions.
      Please don't get me wrong: I don't mean to berate or school you and I don't think you are a nazi or racist at all - I just feel it to be my historical responsibility if not duty as a german to raise awareness about certain expressions, particularly since the nazis took a very deliberate linguistical approach in preparation of their atrocities as dealt with in the book
      _"LTI - Lingua Tertii Imperii: Notebook of a Philologist"_ by Victor Klemperer, a very interesting read especially for a 40k fan because _The Imperium of Man_ takes a very similar approach at times and for obvious reasons.
      And it becomes relevant in again in politics in recent years which is extremly scary to witness:
      The nazis coined a term to slur critical media, the german word _"Lügenpresse"_ - if you translate it literally into english it turns out as _"Fake News".._
      However, now I'm ranting - didn't mean to dumb a wall of text on you but with certain topics I just can't help myself. 😅

      @Xogroroth666 Před 14 dny

      There's something that makes no sense, at all:
      The Tyranid are partially Psyker species.
      While they (specifically Kronos Fleet) cannot consume the "Daemonic Flesh", whey SHOULD be able to consume "their souls", and empower themselves that way!!!
      While not material in origin, Warp Souls as well should logically be something worth devouring, as it is "energy", magical energy to be correct.
      that the Tyranid have the "Shadow in the Warp" means they encountered Kaos before.
      LOOOONG before entering our spacial segment, our Galaxy!!!
      It does NOT grow overnight, would it?
      Not to mention, that they have Aeldarii Gen, and who knows what else, which would further enable them to feed on Daemon and other Warp Entity souls!!!
      After all, they ARE about CONSUMING.
      That this is not "implemented" within the Tyrranid species is one MASSIVE oversight, seeing where they came from, and what they are able at, not to mention, again, the Shadow ... meaning they have, as said, encountered Warp and their inhabitants afore.
      The changes that they did NOT absorb say a vampire or similar "Warp-Tainted" being, yet, still of "Materium Flesh" (as they are "Best of Both Worlds" (Just ask Lo-Notso-Cutus!!! He'll confirm this theory!) is virtually inexistent!
      And thus ... this whole "cannot devour Daemons" thingy ... makes as much sense as planting potatoes on TON-618's Event Horizon!!!
      Prove me wrong.

    • @Xogroroth666
      @Xogroroth666 Před 14 dny

      Even more:
      As the Tyranid can force evolution to deal with certain issues ... they SURELY found a way to consume "Daemon Flesh" and "Warp Entity Flesh".
      Again pointing to the simple fact that consuming equals survival, and evolution.
      They devoured who-knows how many galaxies thusfar, it is impossible, they did not adapt to this specific type of enemy as well.
      That makes equally so as much sense as the above:
      Planting tomatoes on TON-618's Event Horizon.
      :(

    • @Xogroroth666
      @Xogroroth666 Před 14 dny

      And here then, I am again correct in what I said above:
      They can DRAIN victims .. and thus ... DAEMONS.
      Aaah, the superiority of simple logic and rational.
      It NEVER disappoints me.
      And thus:
      Tyranids DO "eat" Daemons ... through ABSORBING their Warp-Life Essence!!!
