I'm a lifetime fan of Mary Black. I have been privileged to have seen dozens of live performances, always uplifting and, dare I say it, spiritual in their delivery! Her musical team (Noel Synott etc al) stayed with her throughout the years and they produced the most magical sound. Thank you Mary for all the beautiful years.
If I ever I question what makes Ireland so special and why everyday I feel blessed to have my ancestors buried here and my grandchildren born and growing here its all here in this lady, its the people. Its that simple!
Never heard this lady singing before.. Have listened to her, Delores Keane and Emmy Lou Harris sing "Sonny" written by the late Ron Hynes a writer/singer from Newfoundland. Had to check her out. Wow! What a voice! I could listen to her all day long
always makes me think about life, the mystical and unknown cosmos, the universe and the ultimate profound beauty of being alive...lets not waste a second and love your family no matter what. im proud to be irish like this magical singer!!
If there is someone who has "IT", Mary Black is certainly the person. Amazing singer, amazing performance. I lived in Ireland for 11 years and never saw her live in concert. I must plan my next visit in line with her tour schedule. ;)
i am a rocker always was and will be until i die . but i love mary black what a tallent. she makes me cry when i listen too her songs . and bright blue rose is one of her best. mary you are great . keep singing.
youtaretube love love mary black . &yes bright blue is tops . & as you say if you appreciate good music . it does not matter who sings . again LOVE MARY BLACK lol
This was on a tape that used to play in my car all the time, loved that tape had francis and mary and eva casidy .. Even though I was rather young, I adore this song!
And it is a holy thing And it is the only way Forget-me-nots among the snow, it’s always been and so it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally One bright blue rose outlives all those Two thousand years and still it goes To ponder his death and his life eternally
I've just discovered Mary B , a pal of mine is from across the water. ..... and so, you tube and went searching ......... This is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Does she still sing live ? I must sad I play it nearly everyday , WONDERFUL . answers most appreciated. Happy days to all.
Wow! How many times I heard this song before several years ago I think I have an answer to a prayer offered. My Mum a while before she died she dreamed the Blessed Mother handed her a blue rose. She never understood the meaning.
I just heard this for the first time this afternoon. I have been trying to figure out who "she" is and the whole thing besides what I already know, and you answered it. How old is this song? I will try to find out. I have listened to versions of this today. I am praying for the world and for lots of people right now to come to know Him, and for healing from this virus. I write on 5-2-21.
Yes, Marys voice is so pure and wonderful. I heard her chatting to Steve Wright (UK) on his radio show, must be 20 years ago, and I went straight out and got her "Babes In The Wood " cd. Great cd.
I hold Mary to be the best female voice in history. Hyperbole? I don't think so. This is nigh unto angelic, frankly, and when she sings my heart is transported to some spiritual place. My, my!
She does still perform live. I saw her on American tour last November and she and her band and her daughter were amazing. Her voice is lower than it was 20 years ago when this was recorded but we still thought she was fantastic.
In response to some questions: this was recorded in 92 ; her voice has changed ; she still tours but hardly ever in UK. on personal note, saw her in 79 in my student union - she was magical!
I skimmed across black water, without once submerging Onto the banks of an urban morning That hungers the first light, much much more Than mountains ever do. And she like a ghost beside me, goes down with the ease of a dolphin And emerges unlearned, unshamed, unharmed For she is the perfect creature, natural in every feature And I am the geek with the alchemists’ stone Chorus
Christy Moore also does a great version of this, check out the version from Glasgow Barrowlands on you tube. The audience sing every word ,many with eyes closed really in the mood of the song.Zonked !! beautiful.

Bit of a rocker myself Warren Denholm but Mary transcends it all. Let's face it. If you appreciate good music, does it matter what form it comes it?

One of my favourite songs sung by a great singer
And it is a holy thing
And it is the only way
Forget-me-nots among the snow, it’s always been
and so it goes
To ponder his death and his life eternally
One bright blue rose outlives all those
Two thousand years and still it goes
To ponder his death and his life eternally
Missing second line
That’s a God given talent. Superb.
Still sends a shiver through me.
Absolutely beautiful version by the amazing Mary Black

No better cover of this song than Mary’s. I found the very Special Hand, and it IS the only way. God Bless you, Mary.
Beautiful voice.
Mary Black just flat-out kicks ass!!!
bigbadredsox She certainly is one of Ireland's very best ballad singers ever. The rich quality and range of her voice and the emotional delivery.
I hold Mary to be the best female voice in history. Hyperbole? I don't think so. This is nigh unto angelic, frankly, and when she sings my heart is transported to some spiritual place. My, my!

powerful
I skimmed across black water, without once
submerging
Onto the banks of an urban morning
That hungers the first light, much much more
Than mountains ever do.
And she like a ghost beside me, goes down with
the ease of a dolphin
And emerges unlearned, unshamed, unharmed
For she is the perfect creature, natural in every
feature
And I am the geek with the alchemists’ stone
Chorus
Jesus is LOVE
