  • Oil Painting Tip - Paint with Intent (Find Your Why) to Create a Waterfall Oil Painting. Paint with Intent (Find Your Why) to Create a Waterfall Oil Painting. Do you grab a photo just because it's pretty, or do you know exactly 'why' you want to paint that particular scene?
Your painting will be much more powerful and progress easier when you know your intent. Is it the textures in the landscape, is it the atmospheric light, is it the way the water creates beautiful flowing colors?
Knowing exactly what touched your heart and made you want to paint your subject will help you focus your energy, design, and focal pathways during the painting process.
My painting style is based on principles professional artists use, such as abstract color shapes, edge quality for greater realism, shadow and highlight, color theory or convincing color relationships, and establishing correct values throughout the painting.
The full art video contains voice over instruction and shows every brushstroke of the painting process.

"If you can paint what captured your heart, then you're going to end up capturing someone else's heart", the latest quote by Bill Inman ! So true, I've experienced it during my last show. Thanks so much for this demonstration.

Thank you Khara, very appreciated! The painting is an 8x10 which is why I was able to finish so quickly. Although, not all paintings move along so well. I was just working on a 20x30 commission and after 3 days of work I scraped it all off. Now, that's the first time I've had to do that in 20 years, but some are a struggle no matter how long we've been painting.
