    CHINA = mainland + Taiwan regions + islands, islets, reefs etc. .. in the South China Sea
    In 1912, CHINA was officially designated as ROC 🇹🇼 and its government was then the legitimate representative government of CHINA (until it was expelled by U.N. in 1971) and currently, it is the governing authority of the Taiwan region of CHINA.
    In 1949, CHINA was officially designated as PRC 🇨🇳 and its government is currently the sole legitimgate representative government of CHINA and is a permanent member of the U.N. Security Council.
    CHINA, in its history, could have different official designations under different dynasties or representative governments, but no matter what historic events had taken place, CHINA is still one CHINA.
    There will be no "one China, one Taiwan" or "two China"
    Take for example, AMERICA was officially designated as The United States of America ... whereas, during its Civil War in1861, the 13 break-away Southern states officially designated themselves as the Confederated States of America.
    But, no matter what historic events had happened, AMERICA is still one AMERICA.
    There was no "one USA, one CSA".
    Thus, I hope the political leaders on the Taiwan region will accept the fact that, as with effect from 1971, the government of PRC 🇨🇳 is the sole legitimate representative government of CHINA (and the fate of ROC 🇹🇼 is to be determined by negotiation for a peaceful reunification, in whatever form or manner, deemed appropriate and viable)
    By just assuring to PRC🇨🇳 of their "One China policy" only without mentioning the fact that "Taiwan is part of CHINA", US🇺🇲 & Allies are obviously trying to provide for themselves sufficient "strategic ambiguity" to shift surreptiously their "one China policy" to "one China, one Taiwan policy".
    But, IMO, as long as the current "one CHINA" status quo (across the Taiwan Strait) remains unchanged, PRC🇨🇳 will exercise great restraint and patience to achieve reunification by peaceful means (even though US🇺🇲 and its Allies kept playing their so-called "Taiwan card" to interfere in the internal affairs of the Chinese people living on both sides of the Taiwan Strait).

      but, on the other hand, they, as members of UN, were constantly bothered with one concern which they felt it was their duty to put it right ...
      They felt strongly that CHINA should be represented in UN in the name of PRC and the govt of PRC should be the sole legitimate representative govt of CHINA ... and since the govt on the Taiwan region (led by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek) had lost its legitimacy as the representative govt of CHINA .. it should be expelled from being the representation of CHINA in the UN.

      The PRC was not the sole legitimate government of China in 1949. That's what the CCP declared but it was not true and still isn't. As long as the ROC exists in Taiwan, it isn't true.
      You don't need the UN to exist. If the PRC was legitimized in 1971 by the UN, then why does 1949 count? Does that mean the PRC state was illegitimate from 1949 to 1971?
      You can't have it both ways. You can't say it is the only one in 1949 and then again in 1971. That's a contradictory argument.
      All you can say is the CCP founded China number 2 in Beijing in 1949 and took the UN seat from the ROC in 1971. Even if the ROC has no diplomatic allies one day, it would still exist.

What matter most was the discussions during the private meeting between Ma and Xi and not the dinner itself. The biggest issue is to believe that China in 1945 is represented by the China under the CCP.
    Of course the west recognises that Taiwan is a part of China. But the west recognised it's a part of the Republic of China.
    No one signed a treaty with The People's Republic of China.
    Just like the UN defended South Korea, no one recognises North Korea's claim over all Korea. Same goes for RoC vs CCP

    • @ex0duzz
      @ex0duzz Před rokem +4

      Difference is they changed that recognition to China in the 60-70s. UN had a vote, and every country also was forced to choose. USA and everyone all choose prc in the end and all have one china policy. There's a reason they don't have embassy in Taiwan..

      For example, America signed defence treaty to defend South Vietnam. While they didn't honour it with weapons supplies, just because South Vietnam surrendered, there's no treaty extension with the current communist Vietnamese government. That's what George is implying in this video - that because the US UK & Russia signed a treaty recognising China & Taiwan as a whole with ROC, that it somehow means they need to apply the same treaty recognition with CCP

    • @josephpham9152
      @josephpham9152 Před rokem

    • @ex0duzz
      @ex0duzz Před rokem +3

      @@josephpham9152 I don't see what your point is. USA obviously switched formal recognition to PRC and not ROC, they signed Shanghai communique and other formal documents, adopted one china policy, shut down all embassies in Taiwan, opened in China, etc etc. Usa never recognized Taiwan as not part of one china or that it's independent.
      Yes. The current situation is that Taiwan is part of China and the civil war has not ended, just paused. But that still means Taiwan is part of one china which is exactly what PRC wants. They don't dispute that it's an unfinished civil war, which is why any independence declaration or change of status quo will mean civil war resumes and it will be the fault of ROC.
      Such a status(unfinished civil war of one indivisible country) fits chinas narrative exactly, and it's exactly what china wants.
      And like I said, nk and SK are recognized as two countries by USA and whole world. Even by Korea's themselves that's why they can have seats on UN at same time, can have relations with other countries at same time. PRC and ROC have both never accepted the others existence. When PRC won the votes from the world and took over Chinas seat at the UN, ROC quit(although they would have been booted out even if they didn't). Before that PRC had no recognition in UN for 2-3 decades and was the whole reason why korean war even happened else China would have vetoed. After that un and USA see that ROC doesn't deserve its seat and it's a troublemaker and would only cause nonstop wars between the actual superpower of PRC and USA/west.
      Also, if works both ways. If lack of ROC forces on mainland mean nothing, then lack of PRC forces on Taiwan mean nothing. It's an unended civil war. If Taiwan tries anything PRC forces will quickly be on Taiwan permanently and civil war will be finished by force by PRC. Taiwan only has autonomy because PRC allow it. Same like they allowed HK/Macao/Tibet/xinjiang/Mongolia autonomous regions. But if they ever try anything, obviously they lose their autonomous rights and prc will crack down.

    台海问题是国共内战的延续。当时只有两个可能性:国民党反攻大陆夺回中华民国的土地,或是共产党渡海占领台湾,两岸于是统一。时过境迁,目前台湾的执政党是本土的民进党,反攻大陆的目标已经不存在,论军事实力,这目标也不可能实现。于是剩下中共攻取台湾,或是和平统一两个可能性。和平统一不可能,因为中共不可能接受台湾的民主制度而统一,而台湾也不可能接受共产主义的统治。因此只剩下武力统一的可能性。而外部势力如美国、日本、韩国、欧洲有意插手阻挠,形成目前台海问题已形成牵一发动全身的局面。解放军会战败,但美国将付出沉重的代价,这是为何战争仍未爆发的原因。要避免战争,按理让两岸百姓公投决定,统一是以民主还是共产制度治理统一后的中国,但目前未听到这样的选择,因为统治者不接受这样的调停。西方插手的原因是为了自身在亚洲乃至世界的利益,虽然西方也提到他们是为了维护普世价值,也就是民主制度。这两个原因孰轻孰重,只有西方领导人心里明白。

    The issue of Taiwan is not very dangerous.
    Taiwan actually is a stabilizing hostage for US-China relations.
    The US remains quite restrained in terms of deeds and the Chinese mainland is sagacious, patient, and methodical.
    As long as a potentially devastating war has not happened, the US will be militarily paralyzed. The Chinese leadership will implicitly heed this eventual reality and advantage.
    The issue of Taiwan is much simpler than many imagine. Politically, Taiwan is hopeless. It is just waiting to be scooped up by a Hong Kong-like deal. Taiwan's geography is crippling. Taiwan gradually will have no meaningful defense. Its energy exposure is abject and will eventually be targeted conclusively. The mainland will easily cast an atmosphere of energy insecurity on Taiwan that will corrupt its investment climate to a very base level.
    Both the US and China are far more rational than many suggest. Psychology and perspectives, ideology and nationalism respectively for the US and China, are inhibitive to the understanding of the issue of Taiwan.

Reality is that the culture, ancestry and even down to the very language of the Taiwanese people are identical to that of the Chinese.
    In fact, Taiwan's population has been in decline for a very long time now. Given no wars, within 15 years of open friendly relations, the Chinese would be able to overwhelm the Taiwanese population with their own people through immigration, and control everything without even firing a single shot. If a war is fought however, unification would be pushed back far longer. It is therefore in both sides' interest to maintain friendly relationships. Not much could be said about the USA or the West though.
