Finally a honest video. All the other beginner videos don't break it down enough. They act like its easy. Pushing for me is really hard and I think I'm gonna stick to this series to get better.

Whenever I try to foot brake, I do the splits.
That's why I included students in the video - so you can see it's hard for everyone when you're just starting out. Stick with it and it will get a lot easier.
Part of conquering your fears is finding the strength to overcome it on your own.
i tried to footbreak with my heeli's and i forgot and busted my ass thank you.
Would be nice to have such nice underground for skatboarding, in my City even parking lots have bad ground so when you go downhill it still stops you after a while.
around 7:00... shes not going fast enough; that's why she can't balance. at my house my road is concrete (it has a lot of tiny rocks on it)... i have tried to skateboard but now i know that kind of surface is bad. thanks!! the only way i knew how to stop was the tail slide and i don't even know how to board good!
@Gamer Daily - No. I never feel self-conscious at the skatepark. age has nothing to do with skating. There are guys 10 years my senior who skate way better than me. Skateboarding is for anyone of any age. Check out these guys...

I just started skating about a week ago but thanks to our videos I was able to hit the local skate park within week 2 thanks a lot I doubt I would have been able to get good as fast as I did without watching these

Most helpfull vid I have seen yet. It sounds silly but i am 30 years old and just getting started. I have a longboard and I am having some truble pushing. I never thought to keep my forward foot straight. Thank you and hopfully in a few days when my twisted ankle is better (dont ask) I'll give it a go.

Yeah keep your weight centred over your board! It takes practice to get it down perfect. Experiment with different feet positions as well.
As for tick tacking, just start off doing small movements and don't bring the front end of the board to high up. Keep your weight centered and lean slightly forward to counter that board flicking up!

I don't even remember when I learned to skateboard, I've been cruising around town for years and then I saw some guys at the skate park doing some awesome stunts so I have been trying to learn to Ollie and it is quite difficult...

@humor527 - Jumping off is a great option, as long as you are moving slower than running speed. If you are going faster than you can run, it tends to end badly.

I have a longboard. When riding a longboard I would assume that the foot stances you have been demonstrating do not apply. Where should I place my feet on a Long board? Also, is tick-tacking possible on a longboard?
The stances still apply on a longboard, you just have more options to where you stand. The middle. Up front. Near the back. Whatever you find comfortable. Personally, I tend to stand in the middle and just carve and flow. Yes, it's possible to tick-tack on a longboard, but it's really, really hard.

In used to the old school 10" boards from the 80's. I picked up one of these modern ones and its a lot harder to keep your balance. Then again, I'm starting out again after 20 years of not skating and I suck.

would you slide your feet vertically on the board when pushing off or do you slide your feet the way you ride it
i can help! i learned to ollie by practicing in really flat grass. if you fall it dosent hurt that bad because you'll be in the grass, and once you feel that you got, you can do it wherever! that's how i learned
