    People start going into detail without breaking down the basics, and I end up just not wanting to listen because I don't even have a general sense of things.
    You leave the SD card inserted but then go to your laptop? Don't you need to put that in? How do you get the games on the card? After all this, can you use the system by itself without being hooked up to a computer?

      you get the sd card into the laptop, install the games as I showed you, then remove it from laptop and put it back in dreamcast gdemu. this is obvious as you must put sd card into gdemu.
      once you install gdemu you cannot use the original gd-drive. you have to use gdemu

    do you have to soder the resistor or is it just recommended?

    • @Thundertronics
      @Thundertronics  Před 2 lety +1

      I think that you should, because the 12v rail is floating and therefore will generate a lot of excess heat which the system wasn't designed to handle it. in time, it will cause damage. adding the resistor solves this.

    That was really useful, thanks !

    the easier option is just to remove the 12v reg and then no issues at all

    • @Thundertronics
      @Thundertronics  Před 2 lety

      yes this is the easier solution assuming your original power supply works fine, plus it matches your power system. for us, we have 220v so when we get Dreamcast from Japan or USA it comes as 110v which won't work. then we have to get a replacement since step down transformers are not so available.

    Does online still work with broadband or DreamPi?

      i hear many people do dreampi and it works. check dreamcastic channel for this

      @@Thundertronics just to be clear, I mean does it still work with GDEmu? I know Dreamcast still has most of its online functionality but I've never used a GDEmu. I'd only be willing to get a GDEmu if online still worked with it

    So what happens when you leave the psu as is ?

    • @Thundertronics
      @Thundertronics  Před 3 lety

      If your original psu is working fine, then you don't have to change it. However, if you install gdemu, then you need to put a load for the 12v rail or just disconnect its regulator.

    hello,
    so how big resistors do i need? 300 or 400 ohm?

    • @hossammoghrabi1021
      @hossammoghrabi1021 Před 3 lety

      Any of them is ok but make sure to use multiple resistors in parallel to share the heat.
      Like getting 3 of 1000 ohms in parallel will give you 333 ohms. Now each typical resistor is rated at 0.25 watts so you will have 0.75 watts capability while needing only 0.5 watts.

      @@hossammoghrabi1021 hi, just found 1k ohm resistors in my basement. How can i know if they are 1/4 or 1/2 or 1watt?

    • @Thundertronics
      @Thundertronics  Před 3 lety

      well, it is hard to determine but larger ones are higher in specs.
      just connect one of them to the 12v rail, it will give you 12ma which is fine.
