Ireland is definitely not a British Isle
Maybe check things before you try correcting someone. Ireland is most definitely in the British Isles. It is not however part of Great Britain.
@@MsPinkwolf You should check things before you try correcting someone. There is no such geographic or political unit called the British Isles so to say Ireland is part of it is like saying Ireland is part of the Mung Bunga Isles. Lets say Great Britain is part of the Irish Isles - how about that? Now, getoff your high horse, calm down on the fizzy drinks and get your facts right.
@NedNew Oh the irony 🤣 A quick Google will educate you. The British Isles is the geographical name for all the islands. Sorry if this offends you, but something doesn't become untrue just because you don't like it.
@@MsPinkwolf British Isles comes from a Greek word for a British tribe, the Pretani. It was never used in Britain or Ireland itself until the 16th century when British cartographers, at a time of increasing British control over Ireland, found it a convenient catch-all term to use. It still was never used in Ireland itself - the Irish people never used it. Once Ireland gained it's independence, the government refused to recognise the term and no government since ever has. Even British governments have stopped using it for decades at this point - it is to be found nowhere in any state documentation, and they advise MP's not to use it. Yanks will get all manner of upset for some reason and insist it's a geographical term, but in Ireland it is, as Wikipedia states, unavoidably a political one. It has been falling out of use over time and will continue to do so.
So how about you follow your own advice and do a bit of Googling. Specifically the Wikipedia article on the issue which pretty much covers everything about it.
@@Quessir "The British Isles are a group of islands in the North Atlantic Ocean off the north-western coast of continental Europe, consisting of the islands of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, the Northern Isles (Orkney and Shetland), and over six thousand smaller islands"
Literally copied and pasted from Wikipedia.
“The Wild Rover “is the bagpipes song ! Great video well done
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed!
Thank you! This is one of the stops for our cruise. I appreciate all of the helpful information and the tour of the land.
Thanks for watching. More to come on Belfast, Scotland and LeHarve (Paris) soon.
Thanks Bill...was wonderful meeting you & Angela (within minutes of boarding!)...we were fortunate to have excellent excursions in every port. And the weather? Made a great trip even more enjoyable...have a couple of more cruises booked so maybe our paths will cross again. Cheers from your Canadian fans...
It was. What a great cruise with great people. PS we went on cruise up to New Brunswick and Halifax a couple weeks ago. Same great weather!!!!
This was fabulous. We will be taking this cruise next September. We did a trip to Northern Ireland 4 years ago. Last year the Med on the Regal Princess. Thanks so much for posting your video!!!
We are glad you are enjoying them. There are mare in the series I am working on and lots more content to come. You will have a great time!
Thank you for this review. Doing Regal May 27th. Using Paddywagon Tours but same tour.
Hope you enjoy it!
The bagpipes tune is , The Wild Rover, the Dubliners did a great version. ❤
Yes they did!!!
p.s. the tune the piper is playing is "The Wild Rover." Some people are surprised to find out that Ireland is home to two of the best Grade 1 bands in the world. St Laurence O'Toole (based near Dublin) and Field Marshall Montgomery (Lisburn nr Belfast). Both have won at the World Championship held annually in Glasgow. (I attended several years with a pipe band from Canada and these grade 1 bands are the best of the best)! Cobh is a terrific town. Just a short, pleasant walk from the cruise ship terminal. We had a pint (Smithwicks for me as well) while joining dozens of others listening to a wonderful young singer / guitarist outside "The Mauritania" pub near the town square who had everyone singing & dancing.
The pipes always move me! Especially seeing really good ones. I heard Cobh was a really nice port to spend the day!
The tune is, "I've been a wild rover for many a year"
Hi Bill.. It's pronounced Cove The bh in Cobh is prounounced as a V
Thank you.
The Blarney Castle is an excursion we have booked for our May cruise. It kind of looked boring. Do you get to go inside or is it just ruins to see from the outside?
How long did the tour last?
Song name .wild rover.
Love that song!
What does a cab cost for the day in Cork, etc. Thanks!
Great question. I’m not sure as we did an excursion. You may want to take a look at “tours by local” they are private drivers for the day. It may give you an idea.
@@ftbeatI'm from Dublin Ireland🇮🇪🇪🇺 am EU member state, we are not in the "British Isles" but good video anyway
Ireland is not part of the British Isles.
I suggest you write a the all the major cruise lines and tell them that they are misnaming their itinerary for decades.
@ftbeat It isn't Britain, and you really shouldn't attempt to defend a point you clearly know nothing about.
@pikie101 i never said Ireland was Britain. I said the title of the cruise is a British Isles cruise. Thats literally what it’s called by every major cruise line. And you clearly know nothing about me or what I know.
Actually Ireland is part of the British Island Group from a purely Geographical Fact .Not a Political or people's point of view. Its just Geography.
@user-ze5tu4ck1t the Irish Government and Irish people do not believe it's just a geography term. The Irish Government have asked for the term Ireland removed from the British Isles to British and Irish Isles.
You may need to learn your geography lreland is not a British isle
And guess what, Canada isn’t in Alaska but yet, Alaska cruises stop there lol.
The term the British Isles is an outdated Geographical term that is not recognised by the Irish Government nor by the Majority of Irish people living in Ireland.
Ireland is a sovereign country and not part of Britain. Surely a tourist video should know what country they are in?
Venice isn’t in Greece is it!? But yet it’s a stop on “Greek Island” cruises. Surely someone watching cruise videos knows this. It’s literally what the itinerary is called. Smdh.
Do your research, IRELAND IS NOT PART OF ANY BRITISH ISLE.its offence to say it is
I would delete this video. It could cause a diplomatic incident. I am also very offended as an Irish person.
You should delete this comment. I’m very embarrassed for you as an Irish person.
@@ftbeat The places you have listed are not part of the British Isles. We Irish are part of the European Union. The British Isles are no longer part of the European Union because of Brexit. You had travelled to Ireland Post brexit. Can I be any clearer? Please advise.
@@andrewphelan9262 maybe you should write to the CEOs of the major cruise lines to explain that to them. Literally EVERY cruise line that does this itinerary calls it a British Isles cruise. And to date, no diplomatic incidents reported.
@@ftbeat why would I write to more idiots. I am explaining and educating one idiot at a time. If I see those guys disrespecting my country and the European Union, then I will give them my two cents... such a shame... I love the USA and always held their citizens in the utmost regard as being the most intelligent and intellectual people of all but now I am having second thoughts and this..Well.. it breaks my heart. I love the USA and have been there three times after saving hard.
@andrewphelan9262 please don’t come back to the USA, we have enough easily offended people here. We also are full on pompous individuals who choose to insult people and call names. Oh and thanks for the comments, it helps push this video up on the CZcams algorithm!!!!
This author has been told several times about the offensive term British Isles and has been asked many times to change it. This is a gross lack of respect for Irish people and the obstinate nature of Bill certainly does not endear him to the inhabitants of the Emerald Isle.
We hope Bill and Angela enjoyed their journey back to USA Province, Canada.
Ireland is not part of Great Britain. Please amend.
I never said it was.
Dude. You just disrespected everyone you ever met in The Republic of Ireland. It is not part of “the British Isles”. It is not part of “ the United Kingdom.
I’m not your “dude” and I disrespected nobody. It is what the cruise was called and a geographical term. Sorry I love Ireland and the Irish people but I don’t do “political correctness”. Scroll up to my previous comments.
