    I'd recommend that if you are going for this, might as well invest in a proper dedicated filter for bio media only and carbon is usually not needed. I run my tank with heavy biological filter. This is probably good as it is for mechanical filtration and won't work for a tank too big for it's size.

      @pillsnpiegaming Před 9 měsíci

      well yes and no doesnt make sense to go for a larger filter that can take the bio media but I do agree the carbon is entirely pointless unless they are actively medicating the fish the whole time. But hey Tekashi Amano always used carbon even on a fresh tank thats why the ADA kits always come with a ton of Activated carbon.

      well trust me some people cant afford that big filter.
      Here in africa internal filters come with sponge and activated carbon and 1st thing to do is add bio rings inside so the filter can do a complete job but within budget.

    • @pillsnpiegaming
      @pillsnpiegaming Před 8 měsíci +7

      @@RandB_Aquatics I live in africa. being in africa doesnt change the fact that a sponge performs both biological and mechanical filtration. never stated just get a bigger filter, what i said is adding the bio rings would do exactly nothing comapared to the sponge. if you wanted to add bio rings in a usefull way then get a container and put the filter in the middle and add the biorings around it. but if the solution is to cut out a piece of sponge out of your filter to add bio rings then its pretty pointless as the sponge can generally hold more beneficial bacteria and is better at polishing the water

    • @pillsnpiegaming
      @pillsnpiegaming Před 8 měsíci +3

      @@IamtheonlyMark you misspelled decrease it seems. Sponge does 2 types of filtration. Bio rings only do 1. So by cutting out sponge and adding biorings you literally are decreasing your efficiency on filtration. would be another story if he used a 2l cooldrink bottle put the filter in there and surrounded it with biorings that would actually work and increase your biological surface area but a sponge does what biorings do and also does mechanical filtration which bio rings absolutely suck at. the idea is sound but the vids implementation is severely lacking

    In this case, you'd get the best upgrade just by swapping the upper half of the sponge to a fine sponge instead, you get at least as much added surface area as the crappy biorings and no hassle, just rinse the sponges in aquarium water at least once a week in such a small filter.
