My personal theory is that the Potentate was once responsible for making new jars, that's why they need the smooth hands of a potter.
oh! I love this theory, it makes so much sense
It was the first think I thought when I saw the word.
Idc if it's never said anywhere else but here in this comment section, as far as I'm concerned this is canon.
@@rune269 at least we know they fix the existing jars
you're absolutely correct. Potters have smooth hands from working clay.
Ive said this once and I’ll say it again the whole “The tale of house Hoslow, is told in blood” seems more like a cautionary tale than a boast.
Ive never really thought of it like that but it makes sense now seeing as the hoslow brothers both die on their journey in the land between
That's how I first perceived it, there was definitely an ominous tone to him saying this.
I think the quest gives 3 perspectives on it. An ominous and intimidating tone when Diallos says it, a cautionary tale when we learn of Juno's story, and one of a hero willing to protect when Jar Bairn says it
A cautionary tale, maybe but honestly I love it as a battle cry. Basically telling your enemy “A Hoslow is never afraid to bleed, are you?”
He uses bleed weapons and his armor is themed like that I don't think it goes that deep

The music helped puts so much emphasis on all that work that voice actor put in that line. Fucking beautiful. The absolute vicious and visceral that came with that delivery...
Diallos and Alexander both show that true bravery isn't the absence of fear, but not letting it tether them to inaction. Alexander discovering his fear of mortality versus Radahn and overcoming it was inspiring. And Diallos becoming a warrior when he finally had something to protect (instead of avenge) made me shed a tear.
He could not bloody his hands in the name of vengeance.
Nor could he spill the blood of others for the sake of his own glory.
However, in defense of innocent lives… he fought. He bled. He killed. His tale reached its end, written in the blood of poacher and guardian both. The story of Diallos Hoslow, Hero of Jarburg.
@@chrisschoenthaler5184| What I especially like about this is that Diallos's older brother chose to fight for glory and honour specifically to ensure his little bro would be free from such a burden. He could tell Diallos didn't have the capacity for such things.

@@kiro253 he wants to die fighting. He refuses to die alone, and not doing what he lived for; fighting, at the highest peak, where he could see the Lands Between for one last time.
I cried so hard at the end of his quest. At the end of his dialogue, I was expecting him to (mercifully) disappear in a sparkling cloud of dust like everyone else. When he instead exploded in a shower of gore, it shocked me so hard I had to take a break for a bit.
As we are. Strength. Pain. Fighting. Old warrior. Meet your match. Your place is carved in my heart. What a wonderful fight ...
One moment with Jar Bairn that hit me was if you rest at a site of grace after Diallos' death, you can find the little coz collecting Diallos' remains. If you try to talk to him, he simply repeats, "The tale of House Hoslow is told in blood" in a very numb, empty tone. It's pretty haunting and dark.
It was a dark image, but also kinda heartwarming to see Diallos was deemed worthy by the jar to take his insides, which is like the highest honor. He was really looked up to in the end, and something in him was strong enough to be carried on.
Nothing really dark if we don't consider in how we as humans value the bodies of people close to us. If we look at it from outside perspective, it's really heartwarming. Dialllos had a strong heart and that's enough for a jar to see someone as a strong warrior
@@argonianguy6226
Yup. To the little guy Diallos was a hero through and through. Well worth taking in to carry on his legacy.
Man, when I fought Alexander and killed him in two shots before he even got his battlecry out... him saying "As I suspected... Victory was impossible...this vessel was found lacking" actually physically hurt me.

@@barneystinson4289 i find him more of an onion bro
Alexander is in heaven with Solaire and the Onion Friends
Alexander is friend-shaped. As strage as it sounds, I would happily take a version of Elden Ring where he travels with you, just barreling along the landscape on his side. You can level him up by feeding him the corpses you kill, and you take the runes. Then, finally, he asks you fir one last favor at the end of the game:
A test of strength. A bout for the ages! Boisterous laughter abound as he takes to the air to body-slam you!
If you are defeated, that's an ending-- where he delivers you, alongside Torrent and Melina to a Catacombs dungeon and lays you, and others, in their roots, then settles himself, now empty, at your side, content with having defeated such a mighty Tarnished warrior.
If you defeat him, he asks that you take the sharpest shard of him you can find, and one of his arms, and fashion yourself a trophy to take along with you, so he may fight at your side forever. The weapon you receive is the Warrior Jar's Lament, a scythe imbued with a decent bleed spell.
EDIT: I kinda wanna expound on the idea of the Alexander Ending, and give him a power all his own: Grace of Kintsugi.
In both endings, due to his unwavering loyalty to you, and his deep belief in your strength, he draws from your grace and makes it his own. The power of Gleaming Gold settles into his nicks and cracks, in every chip and scratch and crack, reinforcing it with golden light and making him, truly, an unbreakable jar.
In the ending where he defeats you, he spends the rest of his days guarding your body, and himself, from looters and poachers, waiting for the day that your soul returns to the Erdtree. This could even go into NG+ and separate character territory, where he spawns in that specific Catacombs Dungeon to battle whoever wanders in, using the weapons and magic of the Tarnished.
In the event that you beat him, and take a shard with you, the scythe could have it's own small, temporary summon attack as a weapon art that sends Alexander barreling forward at a target on his side.
Everyone here has already said it, but I just cannot stress enough how GORGEOUS the scenes are, and paired together with your most amazing story telling, VaatiVidya videos are almost illegally free for how much effort is put in it. Claps for you and the team who worked on this!

The story of Diallos hits me hard as someone who at one point in my life was trying to emulate someone I looked up to, but I am not made to be that person. I am myself and I can be great in my own way, beautiful story
This video actually misses quite a bit of key dialogue with the player while he's still at the mansion. It really paints in him a not so good way...
@@Calx9 no it doesn't. I don't know what you're referring to but all it does is paint him in a way that is more real than any of the other characters From Soft have ever made. It shows true character growth and him turning away from a path that everyone else wanted for him but which he knew wasn't right.
@calvingreenway6796 Diallos is convinced by Volcano Manor because he believes emotions will hold him back from becoming a champion. After working as a Recusnat and potentially hearing The Tarnished is tasked with kill his own brother he realises that bloodshed isn't the measure of a champion either. After going to Jarsburg and fighting the poacher off he finally realises fighting for a cause he truly believes in is what makes a real champion. It's not the spilling of others blood that makes a champion, it's willing to risk your own.
I’ve always felt that Alexander’s want and desire to “consume” you and have you join him as one is due to his “collecting” of bodies at redhan’s battlefield and those bodies being contaminated by scarlet rot, sending him a tad over the edge bit by bit
I like that idea
I don't really agree, to the Jars it seems to be the greatest honor to be filled by the greatest warriors, to me, Alexander telling us he wants our body as his filling is essentially the biggest compliment the Jar can give.
I see Alexander as do I see solaire. There both rather nice and hold the player to a high regard both are after power and strength but both go mad when they cannot accomplish it.

When Jar Bairn made the statement about needing smooth hands to be Potentate, I definitely had the thought of how it contrasts to the calloused hands of a seasoned warrior, but the main thought I had was of a potter - the artistry that goes into shaping clay into beautiful and strong pottery. Do you know what the saddest part about Diallos's story is for me? It's his fault. Vaati painted this narrative as though a poacher followed you, the player to Jarburg. But you can come and go to and from Jarburg with impunity. Jarburg is safe and healthily populated even after you beat the Elden Beast if you just never talk to Diallos.
The poacher followed HIM. He died in the defense of innocents whom he himself endangered. And, what's worse, whom he failed to protect. Far more jars are broken by his defense of them than would have been if he had simply never darkened their doorstep.
Diallos Hoslow. A younger brother who breaks the older's heart by emulating him. A master who served the House of those who murdered his servant. A defender who brought death onto his charges. His tale is told in blood - just not the blood of his enemies.

The saddest thing about Diallos' questline is that either ending fits him perfectly.

If you tell him he won, he finds peace in himself, unknowingly meeting and surpassing the expectations of those who cared about him. In turn, his will lives on through Jar Bairn.

Yeah. The nature of Diallos' and Alexander's stories meld quite well with each other. Alexander was brave in spite of danger, throwing his own form and safety into the wind. Diallos was timid and didn't seem one to fight, but talked the big game to try and be like his brother.
In the end though, they both rised to the challenge. One to be stronger than he was before, and one to be like his brother. A beautiful dicotomy.

It literally broke my heart when I one shot Alexander and he said it was a marvelous battle
YOU BASTARD HOW DARE YOU
Damn you coulda atleast been like Saitama with Boros in One Punch Man, and hold back to let him pretend he's having the battle of his lifetime and it was hard fought one. Atleast jarbro believed it was truly a good battle, where Boros realized right before he died he never stood a chance 😭
@@joshrakestraw3319 but he still won all of our hearts fr i nearly started crying when i killed him
It figuratively broke your heart. The word "literally" isn't just a meaningless word used to enhance the punch of your sentence.
@@HatoBumpkin no no, I'm pretty sure he has arrhythmia or something now. Too much stress, yes.
13:45 I must appreciate how cinematic these VaatiVidya Lore videos have become. They've grown so much during Elden Ring's time alone. It's not the only part in the video but it really stands out, even better it's all custom and no cutscenes have been used. Hopefully the team behind the videos will work togeter far into the future too!
5:40 that shot where they're walking slow, and the music was amazing. Had to replay that a couple times
the chills this video gave me when diallos stood up to fight the perfumer, absolutely amazing cinematics
Where did that dialog come from?
@@Lady_Vengeance I'm guessing it might be if you attack Diallos or the jars while he's around? Not sure tho
@@Lady_Vengeance was wondering that as well
What's the name of the theme that plays during their fight? Anyone know?
Diallos' story is definetly one of my favourites and the one that legitimetly made me cry in my playthrough. When i heard how the little pot had a newfound respect for how Diallos fought even if scared... i just couldn't take it.

I really can’t believe I’m crying over this, but this video is just so magnificent and well produced that I can’t help it. Thank you.
I’m madly in love with this new evolution of VaatiVidya storytelling. Usually I come for the exposition lore dump on FromSoft games but I didn’t expect to actually feel emotion and awe for the quality music and storytelling. If you see this message Vaati, take as much time you need, we’re all proud of your team’s efforts
Alexander breaking the Fire Giant's leg support going into the phase two cinematic was absolutely breathtaking, oh my god.
ok
I haven’t gotten there yet but u can’t wait
Both Alexander and Dialos live on within the Jarbairn, and their knowledge will shape him as a warrior. It is sad but beautiful.
I don't wanna ruin things, but I think Dialos will make Jarbairn weaker ^^" What's fun to think about, though, is that Alexander lives on in Jarbairn, just like how part of us will live on in our offspring, allowing for human flourishing ever more
@@captainzork6109 Dialos found his courage when faced with what was most important to him, and gave his life protecting those he loved. that’s gotta impart something positive, even if his combat abilities were mid. alexander’s warior spirit can balance it out lol
so addicted to all the lore videos, insane production. kudos to you and anyone else involved!
Prepare to cry is back!! Can't describe how amazing this is Vatti, I've followed these videos since the early days of DS1 content (has is really nearly been 10 years?!) Thanks for doing what you do, you add so much to the souls community ❤

Made me tear up man. The video is just amazing. Highest quality on CZcams I mean it. I love how you took shots of gameplay into cinematics, and the entire stories told in parallel, into finally seeing them converge at the end. Everything about this video is just masterfully executed, and the efforts put in are clear. Thank you for this amazing piece of film making

Literally. Which is why I loved the hints. Let Me Solo Her story is about struggling against something and then setting it personal to help others. Just like Diallos did

The warrior-jars' idea of gaining power by amassing warriors seems curiously similar to what Rykard is compelled to do by his serpent god.
Difference is Rykard eats them alive.. the jars collects, or are given, them after they are dead..
@@fickminne
The warrior-jars functions just like how a Tarnished gets stronger though.
The main difference is that the warrior-jars amass the remains of dead warriors; Rykard kills people and eats them. Warrior-jars also seek challenges to grow stronger and more skilled. Rykard sits in his lair and eats unsuspecting people for ages until he becomes strong enough to kill everyone else one day.

The editing on this video is insane! Great job!
That Erdtree to Volcano Manor transition at 13:44 is probably one of the smoothest in the whole video. Great cinematography.
Knight Diallos, House Hoslow: DO THEY THINK ME A FOOL?
Tanith of The Volcano Manor: Sir, could I interest you in some of our literature?
13:45 that transition was so smooth and beautiful.. You guys are legit and good story teller/film maker.
Elden ring is an astonishing gem but you brillantly showed its most poetic elements, thank you very much for your art
“But he said-“
“BAKE ME IN YOUR FLAMES!”
What a fantastic moment
This isolated story could easily have been made into it's own "Arcane-like" animation and absolutely slap. In my playthrough, I didn't progress Diallos' questline. It's unfortunate that many people will miss this bit of the story, so thanks for making this.
Really? Diallos is like the easiest quest in the entire game IMO, you don't have to do anything really, I suppose most players will find jarburg either really early or way later so I guess if you find it too early than you might not think to come back. But I thought it being the most densely packed area for crafting flowers and a bunch of the games very few cracked pots, I figure pretty much everyone will be coming back here a few times. I think this was the only quest I completed completely naturally as in needed no direction through guides
@@THE_MOONMAN quest line was not even in the game with no patches so if they played on release like me it was easy to miss this because it couldn’t be done
@@THE_MOONMAN Goes to show that everyone's playthrough is different! Events/questlines that seemingly flow naturally in one person's playthrough may be completely missed by others who take a slightly different path than you. During my first playthrough, for whatever reason I mostly breezed over Academy Gate Town and so completely missed him by the corpse of Lanya, so his questline was lost for me since I continued through Liurnia and on to Volcano Manor without ever talking to him post-Roundtable Hold (he disappears from Academy Gate Town after you complete Volcano Manor).
@@THE_MOONMAN I completely missed Jarburg, this video is the first I've heard of it
I didn't do a single thing with Diallos, but, somehow, I did do the Jarburg stuff to completion. So, idrk how important it is to even do his questline...
Mercy. SO well done. This is what I love about these games.
When people say there's no story, they are missing all of THIS. Some of the best stories in gaming. They're just not shoved in your face.
Need to play this again.
The editing is truly glorious!
Also this Alexander/Diallos quest certainly hit me the hardest in this game. I’m lukewarm on the NPCs in Elden Ring, at best, and Diallos is no different. In fact he is one of my least favourite. But the way his quest ends just… it’s so sad, and actually managed to get an emotional response from me unlike most of the other quests. Alexander is this games’ Solaire/Siegmeyer so… of course I loved him from the moment I met him, and his ending is great!
The The cinematography of this is amazing
I already love just about everything you do, but this video was a HUGE step up in quality in my opinion. And that is a step up from already great videos. The cinematics, the editing, the cuts are phenomenal.
Quality over quantity any dayy
yah this reminded me of when he partnered with TheParryGod for the prepare to cry remastered series the cinematic quality was awesome but I hadn't really seen it on that level until now.
It's curious as potboi wants someone with smooth hands to pot them, to lead, protect and care, but inside him, it wants guts of a true warrior, and even being things so oposite, Dialos delivers both rolls, making potboi proud. Cant wait for what the DLC holds for us...
Well done, vaati. First off, loving the cinematic style. Second off, for the first time I wasn't just moved by a prepare to cry but actually felt the tears welling up. Excellent work. Keep it up, and don't worry too much about how long it takes to get these videos out.
Everyone involved in making this did a phenomenal job. The slow motion dismount during the Radahn fight was preposterously awesome.
Man, Diallos' story is something I legitimately get teary-eyed about every time I hear it or see fanart. I love this video and how absolutely beautiful the accompanying visuals are!
Also, Diallos kicking the Perfumer down the cliff really solves the biggest plot hole of a lack of poacher corpses in Jarburg after the attack. That's really smart.
"The tale of House Hoslow is told in blood...IN BLOOD!!!"
I've seen this video 5 maybe 6 times, and i ALWAYS cry when jar-bairn says "the tale of house hoslow is told in blood, that's the kind of warrior I want to be"
I honestly can't believe how good these videos are. Your older videos were great with explaining the lore but these feel like I'm experiencing the lore. Wonderful job.
