Not sure how well the party dynamic would go, but an ancestral guardian barbarian, necromancer wizard, spirits bard, grave domain cleric, and phantom rogue would be an interesting death-themed party for a grimdark campaign
or a spooky Halloween theme
What if it was a perfectly normal campaign and the party members just happened to all pick death themed characters independently of each other?
Anyone else think the “you gain X if you roll initiative and have none” abilities would be so easily made awsome if it was instead “if you start you turn and have no X you gain 1 or 2”
I like your idea although the difficulty with that is that it would trivialize resource management. You would just have a resource to burn every single round and wouldn’t have to worry about when to drop them for support. It sounds nice in theory but from a DM perspective that’s like an entire bardic inspiration being slammed at you every single round, always, every encounter, no matter what.
@@dharmeshmistry342 I disagree. It is a capstone at level 20. As a player you'd maybe use this once for the campaign's last bossfight or for a oneshot. This would definitely as op as, idk, being able to cast Wish, since level 17, three levels prior to this. The Wizard nest to me has an infinite pool to cast Silvery barbs or other first and second level spells since level 18. The Paladin can go goblin mode and wreck an entire encounter in a minute. The balance at high levels has hurled itself out the window when we got to level 15.
I would definitely welcome this change both as a player and as a dm. I don't know why wizards wants to give Bard, Monk and Sorcerer the dnd equivalents of foodstamps as their capstones, but they definitely don't feel like a capstone
Frankly, these shitty capstone abilities are just asking for bards and sorcerers to take a hexblade level down the line. Even if your campaign somehow lasts until level 20 you don't really lose out on anything great, but you have a lot to gain.
@@yournewmessiah3582 You know now that you frame it like that with the other classes in mind, I think I might come over to the side of better bard capstones. Initially I was only considering how bard itself would have the potential to break rolls across the board even if it’s just one person being repeatedly bardically inspired, since they’d be able to add that to their rolls again and again and again endlessly, which would trivialize certain weak points of some classes. But it’s only SOME classes in hindsight, so I definitely think you make a good point.
I'd rather the gains be "roll initiative and gain x"
Just gain it at your initiative roll, whether you have them or not.
It'd only be game breaking if you rolled initiative (big number) times a day, and only then if you didn't use the thing, which means you.... probably didn't need it.
Maybe fighting a dozen separate trash mobs before you fought the big ass dragon?
Anyway, that's how I'd DM it, especially for a Monk (well, Monk needs more). which is why I have to make stupidly powerful monsters because I make my players objectively too powerful.
I homebrewed a Sun Blade last night that's a Great Sword, and has extra attack because I didn't think the Paladin/ Warlock/Sorcerer had enough juice.
Gonna make a Reborn Spirits Bard who’s just a skeleton. Skull counts as a spiritual focus so he can cast spells by speaking aloud. Would fit really nice thematically too!
DM: No, you have to be holding your focus.
Reborn: Okay! *(Pops skull off and carries it)* How's this?
DM: ...uh... *(sighs)* sure
Stealing this
@@SueDonym-qx7or Will gladly be stolen from. Our army only grows.
I once created a hexblood “Spirits Bard” and built her as a medium.
She was the culprit for a “Ghost Story” Whodunnit I wrote.
My favorite Spirits bard I made was a carnival medium who started seeing ghosts for real... And didn't like it. She'd learned how to read people and lie, she didn't get into this to talk to ghosts for real.
(When she's lying she puts a bunch of production and acting effort into it, when she has to tell a tale from an actual ghost she's just like "So check this out, right-".)
Ha! I did pretty much the exact same thing 😊
I used to be a strict Sword Bard myself until I started doing tarot readings. After I learned one can use a Tarokka deck I started playing Spirit.
I've flavored it where there are 12 spirits for the 12 stories and assigned them to 12 tarot cards.
I’ve got a spirits Bard who can’t talk to regular ghosts and definitely doesn’t have 100% spooky vibes. But the ghost (or soul? Unconfirmed?) of his grandpa lives in his golden lute and constantly reminds him that he needs to be writing down the adventure to tell stories later. He’s a fun little dude.
Love your spooky song to explain the spirit bard. You should definitely add a song to every bard explanation hence forth, y'know, for flavour.😅
Holy shit, i did not realise it at the time, but...yea, Lirael (girl pictured at 12:00) WOULD be a spirit bard.
I always wanted to somehow homebrew Abhorsen abilities and the magic of the bells from the bookseries into DnD...and now...now i can.
FUCK.
THANK YOU.
Wowsers! TIL about the Aztec Death Whistle while laughing really hard.
yeah, that whistle gave this video a well-deserved thumbs down.
Death whistle sounds like a fantastic tool for spreading sheer fright around! Gotta find out to get one/ make one 😈
Imagine a spirits bard that is just thriller’s Michael Jackson. The spiritual focus is a cursed glove that makes you say hee hee every time you cast a spell and whenever you summon the skeletons you just bust the thriller choreography.
I really hope oathbreaker is in the next subclass pole.
If it is, vote for it, and don't just bounce afterwards, keep watching the rest of them, because they will all be entertaining
This subclass helped me build a phantom rider
Bro I commented "Oathbreaker Paladin pls" under every Video (check it) and He once answered that Oathbreaker will be one of the last subclasses he will cover
@@kubiakpella so....in a few more rounds then? Hopefully you watch the rest of the Paladin videos to see how they compare to Oathbreaker when he eventually covers it
Keep up the spooky, do Necromancer next! Don't let the early xmas decorations weirdos win!
Agree! Also the rogue Phantom would be nice too see
Is now a bad time to mention I got my tree up?
@@truecross4090 Boo. Let people have their turkey first.
I like to imagine a bard who defeats his opponents by blasting Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You at them on repeat
What about a Werewolf Necromancer, who created an army of reborn wererats?
"You employ tools that aid you in channeling spirits, be they historical figures or fictional archetypes." _~Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft_
This subclass is more than ghosts stories straight from the ghosts. You can call upon spirits that embody character tropes from any stories your bard favors. In other words, you are harnessing the power of "the DNA of the soul": *_MEMES_*
*power word kill*
Your memes... end here
This is my favorite Bard subclass.
My 3 year old daughter started dancing to your singing, now she wants to listen to this all the time 😅
I completely reflavored my spirits bard to be a screenwriter (it's a film industry focused campaign) who's obsessed with storytelling. She's not spooky at all, just an extremely supportive and friendly person.
I love thay he used the Abhorsen for one of the Spirit Bard images
Blessed be thy upload
Medium detective is such a great character idea. Maybe multiclass with rogue.
The best way to do that is to multi-class the “Spirits” bard with the “Phantom” rogue
@@marcusblacknell-andrews1783I'm doing this in a campaign rn.Both classes play so well into each other.I'm having an issue deciding how much I want to dip in both rn though.
So far I'm thinking 14 in rouge 6 in bard.
@@raggierock2848 , so far so good, but make sure you use the “Investigator” background. That’s what makes the character
Very clever on the Tales!
3:59 As someone who has been playing _way_ too much Dark and Darker recently, that Wizard is cheating! Damn hackers.
You are criminally underrated my guy.
The song of the old Addams tv show was great
I'm a bit late to the party when it comes to voicing my opinion on the video, but I do tend to binge watch all of them, and leave the latest one for last, but these are still fun videos to watch. Can't wait for the 3rd Round of Polls, fingers crossed Bard isn't last again
knew you would post today
Habe the tales from beyond table give you casts of divination, necromancy and illusion spells thematic to the spirits bard, and a few others as well
Like maybe one could be spirit guardians, another could be Divination, a third could be silent image, etc.
Playing a level 9 Spirits bard rn, but when I was level 7, we done something we shouldn't have and had to fight 3 retrievers. My character has the rythem drums +2(flavored as an Aztech death wistle) and the horn of valhalla. We managed to win but had nothing left at the end of combat.
Personally, the tales from beyond table is fine as they are with exception of the melee one, that one is crap and not even hiding it. Additionally, Countercharm actually came in handy last session against 15 harpies on a boat.
Gotta love the singing
Dude great video
Makes me think of a Spirit Bard-Ghost Slayer duo going around offering services to ghosts/undead.
Lol finally one of the coolest classes flavor wise at least get some recognition.
I think they should be able to always have see invisibility (etheral creatures and plain only) and speak with dead on at all times. Like Cast them at will or as rituals.
My favorite class finally
So you are telling me I can play a bard that buffs allies and attack enemies, by holding a human skull and aggressively quote Shakespeare's Hamlet!
Can we see Wildfire Druid next? Such a cool subclass
Just realizing this subclass is basically Wei Wuxian... ºOº
If this is ever implemented into BG3, either as official DLC or a mod, I can see Tales from Beyond being reworked to allow for choosing the tale, as well as adjusting the numbers to make them equally viable.
great theme, and fun mechanics
so if i target myself with the tales from beyond and roll the tale of the duelist. do i then hit myself ? as it says make a melee spell attack against the target being yourself. or if i target a friend, do i hit my friend.? both 2 and 12 seem very bad and not sure if this would actually be a good or fun subclass if you constantly roll those 2. this can even lose you a important encounter
Tulio!
Another banger
The deas DO tell tales! Sing me a song you dead folks from beyond! A death whistle hmm? Wouldnt mind having a few of those, spreading some ter... erm fright around where I live. Maybe create a growthbed for a new folktale, rural legend... mohaha! I know about a hiking path through different pockets of forests with households nearby, eeeeexcellent! In the dead of night a phantoms vengeance howls at peak height!
Oathbreaker Paladin pls
Nice video, next warlock pact of symbiont pls !
THE SANDWICH
So spooky
What's the art on the thumbnail?
I wanna see undead warlock
Ditto to the 10th power!!
Lets goo
YUUUUP
The bard was chosen last again. It's disappointing, but here's hoping that this doesn't happen a third time.
At least there's no such class as the Druid's Bard...
snap snap
Rip headphone users at 3:25
Have you done collage of sword yet, I've played like 100000000 sword bards
YMBA Has only done 2 rounds, College of Swords isn't one of them, so could turn up in Round 3 of the polls, so vote if it comes up tomorrow
If you think that the druids are overpowered then you should Really do a video about pun-pun.
Some one is a joecat fan
Dungeon hunter 3 and 4 were great but 5 went ALL IN on micro transactions
Oh great one give us weeb sword man next poll
I support human sacrafice to increase the ghost population.
I get that its probably hard to find legit art to use in your videos but the amount of ai images you used in this is crazy. Please be more careful when looking for images.
What?
L bard
I'm waiting for twlight clerics video where he finally cracks
Check it out!
