This episode is special to me because it was my first exposure to GOT ever -- randomly saw part of it at a relative's house when it originally aired in 2013. No context, no clue who these characters were. Immediately hooked, had to get involved and read the books. And here we are, all these years later. So glad that Angel has joined us.

The scene with Tywin towards Joffrey in the throne room is one of my favorites. Tywin may be ruthless, but i love how strong he is. Charles Dance is amazing❤
Jaime convincing his guard to ride back to Harrenhal then jumping into the Bear Pit is one of my favorite moments between them and in the show overall. It was so unexpected and wild.

That bear was filmed in California with a recreated set while the rest the scene was shot in the UK which is crazy.
It really was a disservice to Shae’s character on the writers’ part for making her *actually love* Tyrion. Book Shae was a survivor making the most of some lord catching feelings for her, and she couldn’t care less about the Sansa marriage. She had Tyrion’s protection and Tyrion’s money, and that was all that mattered. IMO that’s a far more respectable character than the “HOW DARE YOU PLAN TO SLEEP WITH YOUR WIFE” nonsense the show gives us.
Except its not nonsense. She doesnt want him to have another wife. She has already suggested they leave the city but "its what Im good at" was his reason for staying. Nonsense? He practically begged her to stay with him so he could stay in Kings Landing instead of sailing away somewherw they could make a life together
Both story lines make perfect sense. This show doesn’t do black or white good/evil character so I don’t know why you’d have a problem with Shae not being black/ white either.
I love how this episode lets you know what it's like to have the Lannisters on your side. We've mostly seen what it's like to be their enemy. "Sorry about those sapphires." What a great line. Has that extra Jamie fuck you to it. One of my favorite characters of the entire show.

As much of cowardly shit that Joffrey is he occasionally says something fairly intelligent. He’s actually pretty smart to be worried about Dani’s dragons (and Tywin is kind of foolish to be dismissive of them). Also in season one Joffrey does correctly say that the Crown is weakened by its dependence on the armies of lords of Westeros and that the King should have his own standing army.
It's a side effect of the casting choices. Both versions of Joffrey show hints that they actually could have been good at something if their upbringing hadn't been so messed up, but what it is had to change.
Book Joffrey is even dumber than show Joffrey, but he's tall and strong for his age and good enough to match Robb in swordplay despite Robb being several years older. He could have made a good knight if he wasn't too lazy and spoiled to train, but he's proudly anti-intellectual and a blithering idiot.
Since it would be tough to believe Jack Gleeson could hold his own in a fight with Richard Madden, the show scrapped this aspect and made him even more of a snivelling coward, but much better read and occasionally right about things. Book Joffrey was never right about anything, show Joffrey shows signs that he might have had the capacity to be at least reasonably intelligent if Cersei hadn't inflated his ego so badly.

The scenes with Joffrey and Tywin are always ones where Tywin makes Joffrey looks like a spoiled child (which he is) instead of a powerful ruler. Tywin is outwardly firm and acts like a man who is having to keep his impatience in check while Joffrey jumps about and shouts in his whiny boy voice.
Saying he could be carried was, imo, about suggesting perhaps he was too weak to climb the stairs on his own and emphasized that he was just being petulant. The whole conversation centers on him not knowing shit about shit and needing to listen to Tywin. Tywin's lack of fear and seemingly inability to be ruffled just makes his outbursts look like the tantrums they are.
I still hate Tywin, of course. He's a homophobic, ableist, hypocritical, child abusing bigot... But I can hate him and still enjoy watching Joffrey get shit on.
Shae is the absolute worst. I've hated her since her very first scene.
