Why is YouTube like this?

- And by this, I mean overly sensationalized, insanely over-the-top, highly edited, and fake. I mean, is it just me, or does most content on this platform feel dystopian, artificial, and soulless?
The content we watch has evolved, there is no doubting it. What was once a place to post fun videos with your friends is now a platform for corporations to market their brand, for people to generate passive income, and for creators to succeed, whatever this means.
And this isn't all bad, but if I'm being honest, the worst aspects of all these things really stand out and create a nauseating experience for the average user.
But something has recently changed, and maybe you've noticed it too? Authenticity on CZcams is rising again. Now, instead of clicking on overly sensational videos, I find myself clicking on videos that are simple, more intimate, and honestly more human. But why? Is the MrBeast-ification of CZcams over? How did we get here? Why is this happening? And what the heck is "corecore"?
Here are the chapters for this video. Feel free to jump around accordingly:

Creators note:
Hello, my name is Zackary Smigel. I've been creating CZcams videos since I was a kid. I started CZcams full-time about five years ago. You might have seen me from Real Estate License Wizard, where I obtained 60,000 subscribers and over 5 million channel views. I have since left that channel for creative pursuits, and this is my first crack at starting something new. I'd appreciate a like and subscribe if this content interests you and I captured your attention for even just a few moments.
On a secondary note, I am playing around with my thumbnail style. We'll see if you guys like my face or not lol. I am hoping you all enjoy, this is a bit more of a controversial topic and I was a bit hesitant to make this video so we'll see! Hopefully you guys enjoy.
Thanks so much for watching,

Nice, can't wait for it.
I thought self-harm was against CZcams TOS? lole
I get this stuff is popular, but I've trained the algorithm so well that I barely ever see it. I have to be reminded that this is what a lot of people are watching and it's fucking weird.
Im the same. Ill hear about a streamer doing something and be like "oh never heard of them, must be small.....oh 2.5 mil got it got it"
@@austinsmith7731try hundreds of millions💀
Right? Like I know these channels are big, but I never see them anywhere near my recommendations and I'm so glad for that.
Same for me. That’s the beauty of personalised algorithms
yeah, i only heard of mr beast about a year ago. ick.
I'm still not over the old CZcams slogan - "Broadcast Yourself". At its conception, CZcams was a place for random people to share their authentic self with the world. I really hope it can become that again.
2004-2009 was an amazing time for the Internet
Once money becomes involved… peoples true authentic selves show
Moknee
this slogan applies more to advertisers now
I completely agree with this, and its so nice to see authenticity coming back to the platform where people care about connecting with other people more than spectacle all the time
this is kinda like CZcamss grunge phase
I like the optimism here, but I think we should be a little bit tempered. Because as soon as something becomes the new trend its going to be commodified. So get ready for the soon-to-follow "manufactured-authenticity" trend too...
@@nichan008 when you put it like that this is really starting to sound like grunge
Play five nights at fck boys for some beautiful authenticity and animatronic yiffing.
@@nichan008honestly it's already here, with a lot of lifestyle CZcamsrs (whatever that means) whose personality is just whatever decor they chose for their filming room. You watch their videos and their personalities are absolutely lackluster, so the only impression you get is how they dress or how they decorate their living room, and then their audience genuinely buys their "authenticity" lol
honestly the AI narration content is really the worst offender to me. I wish youtube could do something to help me filter out this kind of content. As a person who has always been interested in the voice acting industry, its hard not to see AI narration as incredibly cheap and lazy. Its impossible to escape the flood of AI centric videos and it feels genuinely brain rotting.
Agreed. I would love a filter to take out all of the AI science videos. I don't want to hear an AI voice reading chat GPT over pictures of CGI space. They're so devoid of any actual interesting content.
How do you feel about the latest *Beatles* track? I basically call it a robot ghost band and I'm pretty sure it's not going to be an isolated incident due to something I've heard from the actual record labels themselves a while ago. It was long enough ago they might not have been talking about AI specifically but they were looking for a way to keep the big artist current and popular after breakup or death for a while and I mean a while.
I agree with those soulless ai narrated videos being pretty bad but as someone who doesnt want to narrate their voice because of privacy reasons I can see why they do that. But if the content is just not interesting and just a repeat then no its not good content.
The problem with the "AI narration" stuff is that a lot of it is low-effort chat-gpt readouts of a topic, most often WRONG, and that's why they're terrible.
AI narration works in a few specific places, which, surprise surprise, are things humans don't want to do, or can't be enthusiastic about doing.
- Allows Mute/Deaf streamers to participate in things with hearing people without having to disclose they are.
- Narration of text-heavy textbooks
- Narration of chat logs/tweets
- retroactive voice conversion (eg giving yourself your 10-year old voice) rather than make your vocal cords bleed
- real-time narration of an in-progress (trouble) event that doesn't need any specific voice, but is more intuitive than a buzzer or blinking light. People tend to ignore voices that don't have a sense of urgency. Hence TCAS in airplanes have that sense of urgency. "Terrain! Pull up!", where as your typical TTS can't emote worth a damn. AI TTS can, but they need to be trained on a voice that has that urgency.
youtube actually took action against that like 2 years ago where they demonetized creators who used tts, but idk if they do anything now
I'm very positive that one of the reasons you got so popular so fast is because you ARE real and sincere with your videos and not over the top and fake trying too hard to get views.
100% that’s why I liked his CZcams comment video so much I subscribed for that reason
I absolutely agree with you. Content feels so fake nowadays.
And people just copy other creators:/
Same here, and I can totally agree with that, since I'm not a fan of modern-day CZcams, which a lot of people on CZcams, myself included (as I keep the tradition of the late 2000s and early 2010s CZcams even in 2023), are not.
not all content of course, but it's like when I say most music sucks now and then people go "not all music"
the majority of what is popular is bad, but if you look at the right places you'll be fine
Never was a fan of MrBeast and other similar popular channels. Tons of environmental waste and money waste for views. Pretty off putting.
@@mementomori29231 I agree. Too much wasting both money and environment, it is just horrible.
Sometimes I click on videos and get actual headaches because of the obsessive yelling, constant transitions, 3 new video clips every 2 seconds, "one word per-line" subtitles on screen, it becomes overstimulating and it becomes too much. I cannot manage 10+ minute videos with this over-the-top pacing.
I feel like a year or two from now, the trend is going to go in the other direction, where the in demand channels will be the soft spoken, calm, and personal-feeling videos will be the ones most in demand.
You’re the first person I’ve seen to mention the “one word per-line” subtitles usage. It literally makes me feel like I’m watching a cartoon made for kids.
True true its so irritating
I welcome the end of clickbait thumbnails. I remember it being a huge controversy on Linus tech tips, almost a decade ago when they switched to them, but the numbers do not lie. They were huge for the channel. Hopefully audiences will start seeking better thumbnails like you said.
Clickbait thumbnails do really bad for small channels, it seems it's only held up for already established channels, people can just sense the inauthenticity and melodrama of a clickbait thumbnail on a channel with no views, it seems almost desperate.
clickbait has changed so much, bc back int he day you could ONLY create a thumbnail from an image IN the video. making sure it acdurately represtned the content?
so what ppl would do is add 1 frame images of girls scantily clad, so they could snipe the prime clickbale meat
@@kelechi_77 clickbait on small channels do work, they just have to be the right kind and more thought has to be put into it.
@@alexjustalexyt1144 yeah thorough clickbait, but im talking about Mr. Beast kind of clickbait. With all the arrows and flashy colours, that type is kind of outdated now.
@@kelechi_77 But his videos do generally consist of what the title says, so I suppose the dumb face and the bolded lines and arrows are meant to bait a click and as such are clickbait, but I thought the definition of clickbait is to essentially lure people with false promises.
I think the "authenticity era" prediction could wind up true. I have friends who only ever watch video essays and stuff when they're with me because I'm good at picking out which videos and creators aren't "Mr. Beastified".
Great video! I have always fallen for the cycle of over hyping my videos, but I must say people used to stand out for being unique but now it's like were all sacrificing the authenticity for a corporate script/formula. It is a shame indeed! My content used to be a small niche too, but now it's oversaturated 😅
Hello Jeracraft hope you're well
Now its time for you to turn things around
I think the irony of AI is that people will appreciate human creations more. Even though it hasn't been around for long, I'm already sick of all the AI-generated content. I find myself rewatching old 80's movies and loving the cheesy practical effects, as opposed to today's polished CGI, even though they aren't "perfect". Turns out, perfection gets old pretty quickly.
You hold that statement because you clearly haven't see me.
Yes, because of AI, the human creations will become more scarce and making it more expensive.
A lot of people have claimed that AI will make things more efficient resulting in cheaper good/products/services, but that's definitely not true and the opposite is more likely to happen.
I am OK with this change. As someone in their 30's, the hyper sensationalist Mr Beast-like videos are like cheese graters on my senses. I know they're for little kids but it'll be awesome when youtube stops recommending them to me.
Totally agreed
Delete your watch history, don't open the main page and only open your subscriptions, optionally use something like ublock origin to hide the video recommendations on the side
Agreed, I also hate all the AI narrated videos... I want real humans with some personality, not some monotone soulless AI.
just click "do not recommend channel" homie
Let's face it, a LOT of the huge content is for the youngsters whose eyeballs are easier to get on stuff. Thankfully, people like this channel still have an audience, and it looks like we are seeing a shift from clickbait dominance
I might be the only one, but I never saw a video from Mr.Beast or one of the Mr.Beast-Like Channels. This hole style of videos completely passed me by. These authentic videos and channels have always been existed, but you never saw them.
You are not alone...there might be only a couple more though 😇
Me neither. Algorithm works good in this case it seems.
You kind of only see it if you open CZcams on an incognito tab or signed out. CZcams without an account has the worst recommended page, complete sensory overload.
I've had youtube long enough that my algorithm never showed them to me. I was only recently exposed to the awfulness when I created a new account. I feel bad for these new kids thinking this is real. They all want to mimic it.
Every time one of his channels was recommended to me I clicked on the Don't recommend this channel option. That also helped a lot lol
Just to add on to your examples, commentary channels have been exploding recently (I don't mean reaction). I've seen so many commentary channels rise to stardom so quickly it's baffling. Allie Tricaso, not 4 months ago had less than 10k subs. Today she's sitting at 130k. Gabi Belle, Chad Chad, all creators that started their content after 2021 are rising incredibly quickly. Some of the fastest growing channels I've ever seen. And I think that confirms your theory that authenticity is what people crave. People making fun of the synthetic nature of social media is a hell of a lot more relatable and easy to watch than Chevrolet's AI Vtuber or whatever mega corps are doing these days.
1000% accurate. The irony is that unlike other creators, most of the commentators are good friends and collaborate cohesively with each of their respective other hilarious selves. I feel like I woke up one day this year subscribed to a bunch of people and only realized after the fact that I basically just joined a parasocial friend group😅😅😅
@@dillona1001 It's pretty wholesome when they hang out together (and not to do "pranks", actual hanging out and joking about stuff)
A lot of the channels I like I've heard by association, either discussed or connected to each other in some way.
@@dakat5131 Also very true. And to Zack's point, they can simply sit reacting to content together, riffing off one another, whether in the same room or on video call, and it's top tier entertainment start to finish. Literally 0 production cost, yet millions will watch. I'd like to think I'm funny enough for that lol😂
nickisnotgreen and jake doolitle rised to fame pretty quick too

Thanks for the video! I'm a musician, traveling through villages, and creating psychedelic pop music with grandmas while also filming a series about it. Thanks for the reminder that there are plenty of folks out there who value authenticity, and you don't need to spend a year in the grave to promote your album
@@TELE-GRAM--ZackarySmigel. that was weird, but thank you 💜🫂
Great video Zack. I had a similar hunch when I saw myself seeing much higher growth than expected in only the first two months of making videos again. People do seem to be wanting intimate, genuine, and thought provoking content right now, which is something I'm very happy to see. Here's to the potential new era of CZcams.
Thanks so much. Just looked at your channel. Love your thumbnails!!! Will check out your videos too.
@@ZackarySmigel I really appreciate that! Hope you enjoy what I've made so far.
I love new CZcams - video essays and commentators and healers, comedy sketches for balance. Mr Beast is no where near my algo
Another great video- I think with the rise of tiktok, youtube will become (even more) of an engaged medium, with certain creators posting longer, less frequent, movie-style "events" - and authenticity is a huge part of that
Great point! The rise in tiktok definitely plays a massive role in all of this. Thanks for stopping by like always man, you are easily one of the most authentic creators on this platform.
"Events" is the proper term for it. Creators like Fredrik Knudsen can disappear for two years and release a six-hour deep dive into an MMO from twenty years ago, and it'll be a damn celebration in their community. Internet Historian is another example; there's just no greater feeling than seeing a creator you miss in your notifications (except watching Plankton farts and dies, of course).
You have to have guts to ignore all the rules of succeeding in CZcams and to prioritize authenticity. Great video once again!
You’d be surprised how many are; i only watch those creators, except the occasional reaction but that’s because i 1 either grew up with them (cinnamontoastken) or 2 they interact on twitch or lives (zachary michael)
I certainly hope that we're entering into an authenticity era. That's kinda my main brand.
omg can you do some kind of analysis of the weird way of speaking in these sensationalized kinds of youtube and tiktok videos?? the cadence of speaking is so weird and it's wild how popular it's become
I second this, do tahe fake voices analysis pls
Yep. This was the final push I needed.
PS: I also notice myself leaving more and more comments on these authentic videos.
The comments feel so much more genuine and intimate because these channels often read all of them. Nothing more uninviting than seeing 100k+ comments on a video
Great vid and very true! But, please don't eat gas station food for a month... Get some veggies into you instead 😁👍
Too late now ;)
Different generation. I think the young kids LOVE the Mr Beast style stuff. Once we're older, I think the authentic channels appeal more. There's room for both.
I've never seen videos like these. I generally avoid all "prank" videos and I use the options like "Not interested" and "Don't recommend channel".
Good for you, just remember that I am not a fan of MrBeast, in which I simply never care about him since day one in 2012.
I randomly got recommended your video and I'm so frickin grateful! I absolutely adore your way of presenting your opinions and just the way you talk and connect as well as just a this smooth radio voice! Also, just so amazing seeing how you can shed light on other small and medium sized really cool creators too, and seeing how dodford creates their core core aesthetics is also just so flipping cool! I'd never have stumbled into that person if it wasn't for you, and I would've prolly never stumbled into you if it wasn't for some silly new experimental youtube algorhythm stuffsies. It's amazing how things just happens, and I'm so grateful for having bumped into the content you guys make! Just a warm thank you from a random stranger and fresh loyal subscriber on the internet, stay cool!
The unfortunate thing is that the Mr. beastification of CZcams may never stop it is the type of content that the mainstream masses love and will watch so CZcams will keep pushing it.
Same, and because of that, I called MrBeast as *not* a scammer, but him being the antichrist and a demon.
People say life is a circle, but I think it's more like a pendulum, and the more you push for one direction, the stronger it comes back to the other.
Great video, I found you because of that video that went viral and have been following and there is always something great about your content, thank you!
Well said! Thanks so much for the kind words!

8:10 "This is corecore in its purest form"
You mean core corecore 😅
Man I cannot look at this nonsense on this platform anymore, I'm actually looking into it from a more academic point of view rn(why do people watch content that's not only fake but also bad, i.e. sniperwolf) and I just hope there will be at least someone smart enough over at CZcams to start pushing more cool creators forward, bc clearly a lot of the success of lazy side of this content is just algorithm' preference
Bro this is such good news, I was debating so hard between being myself or creating a character for this channel but you've inspired me to just be myself, even if my previous conclusion was that my character would just be an exaggeration of who I already am. I'll be going live every week here on youtube to DJ live, talk about music and bring on guests to DJ and talk about their project. Thank you
I love hating on CZcams.
yooo man carrying thing 1:08
Your channel is seriously becoming my favorite channel, the first vid I watched was like you're punching a hole through the 4th wall and saying "hello", it felt like a real 'meta' moment. Yep, it was the 'feels different' one - it kept staying on my YT home site for days. I noticed it immediately but it took a while until I said to myself - okay, what the hell is it about. And after watching it I was flabbergasted. It's real, it straight out talks to me, it's very cleverly made and fun to watch on top. Just a few of the things you're pointing out in this video now and I'm loving it. I'm 48, I saw the very early days of the internet and have been a vivid participant myself back than until the 'noise' of this entire phenomena became way to loud for me, to aggressive, to - frustrating. That was even before all these social media really boiled it up to new, unforeseen extremes thanks to these spicy algorithms - tendencies had been there since the beginning. But that's another topic. Keep up the great work, it's always a pleasure to watch your work, and thanks for the recommendations. If you're curious or for your statistics: I'm a SW senior developer, actually started quite late watching YT vids regularly, and the stuff I watch is mostly about science, tech, politics, history and of course entertainment. In some ways you're touching all of these interests ;-) Have a good one :-)
This editing really reminds me of another youtubers older videos, and i love it. Keep doing what your doing because people are gonna want more of it. Good video too.
I have really been on the fence regarding content creation - had a couple strokes and lost ability to type for awhile - so started putting up 15 minute videos a few times during the week - so friends and family could see I was doing ok - a dear friend reached out - and brought outlining to my stories. I had a lot of awesome comments and approaching my 'Act II' was giving CZcams a thought after the last few months. The point on my discussion - bumped into your videos just like you have been saying - more authentic creators fill my suggested videos. Funny - I am usually last person to the party... now maybe more like a first adopter. Thank you again for your content, it is clear and understandable and appreciated. Take care, Tony
The thumbnail for this video is literally 10/10 best thumbnail you've ever made
I like it a lot too
@@PalpusThoughts Same.
Gosh its just so refreshing to listen to someone talking about bekng a youtube consumer and knowing the trends and stuff in an honest way. I actually dont know many other people who watch as much as i do, before i met my girlfriend i hadn't watched much netflix/etc for years, had maybe watched one or two series, but spent hundreds of hours on CZcams watching mainly educational content. When i had seen things change so much recently it was comforting to know i wasnt going mad. And if im honest, the things CZcams dishes me up are not what id ever search for or watch usually, but its so hard to keep up with the channels i actually want to see, i give in and watch the "fast food" CZcams more than i would like.
Im going to cleanse myself by watching the new 5 hour long Knudsen Down the Rabbit Hole. That will sort me out . (but i cant possibly watch a movie, that's too long)
Thank you so much for bringing this up! I'm so glad this era is coming in cus I've been loving stimulating thought without overdramatization.
The thing that just ceases to amaze me, is how you managed to balance in your videos the editing simplicity and attention grabbing. Theyre just so smooth and simple, like 50/50. Love it
I actually think the reason your first viral video went viral was because of the title, not the thumbnail.
I'm pretty sure the title was what made me click on it.
Title and thumbnail is what I was referring to but yes, imo a bit of both!
This video really hits the spot, like most of your videos. I also found you through the viral video, and I was so blown away by it. I'm amazed by how you can keep coming up with these spot on POVs.
The CoreCore bit took me a while to wrap my head around, in terms of setup and subject transition/etc, but all in all this was a great piece of work and I'm glad I took the time to watch it. Also makes me feel good because I'm in the "so I don't get maxxx engagement whatever I'mma just be me" creator camp ✌
I 1000000000% agree with this.
Gotta feel for Jacksepticeye for all the needless backlash he got for saying the same thing but not having the wording right 😂
Saaaame, Jacksepticeye was right!
Spotted Man Carrying Thing in the montage of authentic CZcamsrs. The absolute legend, he never misses!
I really liked this video Zack. This video perfectly resonates with me. A lot of the stuff on CZcams can be quality but the best way of describing it is that I feel sick if I see too much of that non-authentic content, especially if it’s a repeat video.
Bro the Beam Rifle SFX
Pumped to see a new upload, keep it up man!
I think the challenge is that being “authentic “ can also be another style of content creation.
Most authenticity is vulnerable, most vulnerable people are introverts.
I’ve seen a lot of “social chameleons” online and I think being authentic will become another hook for the algorithm, being slowly adopted by creators to drive the same end results of over the top videos.
Literally said exactly what you were saying today. Great video!
I think the authenticity era is already towards it's end too. There's so many channels on CZcams of just people talking to a camera about drama on the internet. I think a new phase will come again. Maybe skits? Idk.
i'm SO GLAD you mentioned dodford! I love his way of editing & narrating without actually using a voiceover script!
Commenting for the benefit of the robotic eye known as the algorithm. Also is it weird how all the fake voices seem... Similar. Like weirdly similar.
It would be nice if this content could exist somewhere owned by the creators. Sensationalism, or authenticity, polish or un-polish. It's all engagement driven. I wish that there were a way for these things to be successful side by side, with creators at the wheel.
Thank you for the shout out dude! Great video
Appreciate you stopping by! Glad you enjoyed. Keep up the amazing work!
I needed to hear this. When starting out and making videos, it's always a struggle trying to decide if you should over-clickbait because that'll get the algorithm's attention. I even gave into it a few times at the start. I hope that the authenticity era is on its way back
this is probably the best time to become a youtuber
people are starting to like non-sensationalized videos, which would probably make it easier
I try to keep it real, mostly because I'm too lazy to do all that crazy editing. haha
I got here from that Why youtube is weird video! Still here, still loving the content, and I *FEEL* you when you talk about this stuff, it's like you're explaining something I "understood" but didn't *KNOW* you know?
love how insightful youre videos are zackary
Your videos are so great. I really enjoy how poorly lit, color corrected and keyed you appear. No Joke, no Sarkasm, i really find it refreshing. Keep up the good work!
True facts!
Authenticity for life!!!!!!
But in all seriousness, as someone with autism, I've lived most of my life seeing fake people be fake people, and that has really pissed me off, so authenticity coming back is one heck of a breath of fresh air, at least for me.
Thanks for sharing hope that authentic CZcams is coming back around. It makes me happy to hear that! Sincerely, someone who joined YT on 6/6/2006
Dodford ON TOP of Internet Pitstop? The hits just keep on coming. Syr, you are my spirit channel.
You expressed it perfectly, and I really appreciate it. The first thing that ever made me realise this is indeed the "Authenticity" era is when my recommended started getting videos like Daniel Thrasher's second channel (daniel thrasher plus) doing the exact same authentic content that you're speaking of -- simply him pointing a camera at himself and just... talking. Having an open conversation with whoever is willing to listen. It's so refreshing to see after so many years of garbage. Till this day, I am thankful I never discovered the "sensationalism" side of CZcams because I'd hate it and my brain would melt if I was forced to watch it often. I have only watched one Mr. Beast video and that's the tree planting one. ALL HAIL THIS NEW ERA OF CZcams! ❤
I can happily say I've never seen a Mr. Beast video. I think the only "sensationalized" videos I watch lately are people like Linus Tech Tips - but for me, I can excuse it for myself because he's posting content that I (sometimes) am interested in.
I'm also more than happy to see Joel's face in here quite a bit - he was randomly suggested to me years ago, and I've been an avid watcher ever since then. Genuine random skits, a unique art style (that people have began trying to copy now), and yeah, just being authentic.
I've seen basically every main channel video of Mr Beast because his videos have some of the most effort put into them on CZcams.
No other "sensationalized" video/creator trying to emulate that video style even gets recommended to me.
You could also a
easily argue that LTT makes much more half-assed videos than Mr Beast ever will.
In any case I don't believe we can ever return to 2010's social media but people should still be themselves on screen as much as possible.
I love your content and I’m here for it ❤. CZcams has become a good chunk of my day over the last year as I recover from an injury. I find myself mostly watching videos of people playing video games, or creating things, doing the things that I would be doing if not injured. None of the content that I enjoy has a “try hard” feel about it, I like to describe it as “it feels like I’m having coffee with a friend”. I really liked your points in this video, I hope the over sensationalism takes a bit of a break soon and allows some more down to earth creators to shine though. Keep up the great work, Zackary! 🎉
This might possibly be the most important video of 2023. Just looked through my recent favourite videos of this year and yeah, they all tick this box. Incredible summary and observation. I'm just enjoying the genuine authenticity era before people try to mimic, market and commoditise authenticity. lol
youre quickly becoming one of my favorite creators, love your videos man

Thanks for articulating this so well. And thanks for recommending so many other creators!
Great vid :D I think core-core has to have a bit of an emphasis or accent on one of the 'cores' tho, perhaps the first? CORE-core.
It doesn't help that nearly all the "gurus" on this platform tell people to replicate what Mr. Beast and all the other biggest creators do in order to be successful. So now everyone is doing the bright obnoxious thumbnails and grandiose titles because that's what they're "supposed" to do.
The Urban Rescue Ranch is one of those channels that come to mind when it comes to "authentic AND attention grabbing"
6:01 I feel the same. Glad to see you’re a man of culture and follow Joel Haver.
Looove this! I feel like I can see a little bit of an authenticity and sentimental peak coming into youtube; like Smosh coming back and giving stories about their old videos and being more open and real with their fans and viewers, hoping that keeps trending :)
We are witnessing a natural cycle of trends.
Authenticity was popular for a while, people got bored of it and highly sensationalised content came to fill in the gap. Now that the loud sensational videos are becoming overdone and people are getting bored of them, so once again they are seeking more down to earth, real stuff. Rinse and repeat. This happens in fashion all the time, for example. Of course, like in fashion there are things that will never go out of style, the "classic" stuff.
But yeah, none of this is new.
Yeah, the trends come and go but people stick to channels that are interesting and consistent or growing.
I definitely agree, as I said in the video, I see the irony in all of this. I do think that, like jeans, authenticity will never go out of style. People are realizing that, just like denim, authenticity is forever a good look and that's why we're seeing it back again.
i feel like MrBeast's powers of "editing" (like when he timelapses stuff, snaps his fingers to make stuff appear, and gives away briefcases of money to people) could make for a really interesting superhero type fight
like the final boss of CZcams lol
this is my first video of yours and you struck a chord big papi. it’s true. as i get older the creators i follow the most are the ones who are unapologetically themselves. the type of people who just rant for a bit. as someone whose dabbled in making videos for youtube, i feel like im more engaged with videos where people are just ranting without much editing
This has given me hope as an aspiring content creator. I was scared that I would be overshadowed by the highly edited, best equipment, quality videos. But I do see now that regular joe smo's have a chance at this now. Thanks for the video man, really hit home and I am glad its changing back to how it used to be,
only 40 seconds in, and i already agree with you.
I sincerely hope the authenticity era is upon us, I can't stand how youtube keeps giving me notifications about how to maximize retention and thumbnail clickability, no youtube, I don't want my content to appeal to the wider range of brainless morons, I want a genuine fanbase of real and caring people, and that's what we should all strive for.
awww so hopeful 🥺I'm a bit worried about what will happen when authenticity becomes another mask of capitalistic ploys but maybe that has already happened and it's not that big of a deal. thanks for the video man
I was trying to find a video like this about a month ago and couldn't find it in YT search, then I was randomly recommended another video from your channel today.
I love these videos keep them up! Your are doing great!
Thank you so much!
This video is great, the videos don't feel real anymore, AI and Peter Griffin are ruining CZcams shorts
Thank you for making thoughtful and informational videos like this. I feel nauseous watching fast paced content lately, maybe it's just me. I am also in an era where I crave connection authenticity and slow pace video where I feel like listening to a friend talking to me through a video.
2:20… Tim Allen grunt - love it
Here from JJJacksfilms. Great work!
Did he react to it?
@@ZackarySmigelyes he did
Corecore? Pack it up, folks. We've reached peak meta internet lingo. We can't go further than this.
i prefer calling it Dadaism over Corecore lol
I've always adored the dada art movement, and its so cool to see the newest collective take on it
Nice setup, you really hooked me into your channel with the "this video belongs here, I promise video." I do miss the old youtube but this video made me somewhat hopeful for the future
that video reached huge amounts of people, personally can say that's what introduced me to this guy. It had a very interesting and simple thumbnail so lots of people were curious, even better that it wasn't clickbait. Haven't been disappointed since!
I've been preaching this exact thing for quite a while now. Sincerity has gone out the window to make room for extremely brainless ADHD Entertainment (Dont take this the wrong way), where viewer retention is EVERYTHING and you have to constantly just work with Hyperbole that will create exactly nothing. Its so weird how people enjoy this.
Edit: As an Editor, I DO Want to point out that highly edited does not necessarily mean insincere tho. Some of my favorite Creators like Max0r, Sseth Tzentaach and Ranton are most certainly exactly as broken in the head as they are in their Videos, yet their Editing (although Sseths not too much) is an Acid trip.
edit 2: You reminded me of a Video thats been benched for quite a while now - I need to go and do that. Thanks alot for heads up. :D
I think a lot of this has to do with Millenials (I'm 33) and older Gen Z wanting to go back to what you accurately described as the "older CZcams experience." They saw the content they liked and maybe even grew up on it (in my case, late high school and college) and thought to themselves, "You know what? Why are we doing all this Mr Beast type shit?" and it's working again to just go back to the roots. I couldn't be more happy. Thankfully, CZcams doesn't recommend any Beastification type stuff to me and hasn't for years, but if I log out and see the front page, it's still all over. There's a lot more work to be done.
I agree with that. Since I was born as Gen Z, in which I turned myself into a Neo-Millennial type despite being born as a Gen Z, that is the main reason why I resist the MrBeast's popularity, in which I considered him as the man who killed CZcams, but not just MrBeast, but the disgraced ImJayStation and other clickbaiters and clout chasers killed CZcams.
I'd not say those videos are "High quality" as you said they were, I'd call them "Highly produced"
You have good content Zackary, which is why I subscribed to your channel many months ago. I always enjoy your content!
You don't live in a white box!? Anyways great video 🙏
Can you talk about the new recommended feed on YT homepage, ive been receiving a lot of small creators on my page... which is good.
I do touch on that in my Why CZcams Feels Different video. I may retouch the subject soon though! Thanks for the suggestion. I do agree, it is good.
As soon as you brought up corecore and Dada, I knew you were going to mention Dodford!
Such a fantastic video, that gripe with the boundary between authenticity and “self-promotion” is something I feel conflicted about as an editor. 4:46
Putting the YOU back in youtube :)
