"Amhrán na bhFiann", called "The Soldier's Song" in English, is the national anthem of the Republic of Ireland. The music was composed by Peadar Kearney and Patrick Heeney, the original English lyrics by Kearney, and the Irish-language translation, now usually the version heard, by Liam Ó Rinn. The song has three verses, but only the choral refrain is used as the national anthem.
GAEILGE: Is é Amhrán na bhFiann amhrán náisiúnta na hÉireann. Scríobh Peadar Ó Cearnaigh na liricí, agus chum Patrick Heaney an port. Ba i mBéarla a scríobhadh na liricí ar dtús, ach is é an leagan Gaeilge is gnách a chloisteáil inniu. Ní chantar ach an curfá de ghnáth agus is ar éigean go bhfuil an chuid eile den amhrán ar eolas ag duine ar bith.

Ireland is a country with a great history. A country that was poor and mistreated by the British in the past, and today is one of the richest and most prosperous countries in the world. I hope one day to live in Ireland, because it is a country that I admire a lot. It is a country that deserves all wealth and prosperity. Greetings from Brazil. 🇧🇷❤🇮🇪

Just a note of caution for you.. please be careful when in large places like Dublin and other cities-- there have been may cases of tourists and visitors being victims of street crime --I`m sad to say this, because it was not always like now -- drugs has a lot to do with it ...do please come and enjoy your stay, but please be mindful of your safety.. I know it happens in other countries too and just a few days ago, an Irish man was seriously assaulted in Portugal --- that is not to say Portugal is a dangerous place, but Ireland, like many other places, has seen a rise in street assaults and muggings... I read recently of a French boy who asked for directions in Dublin, and was led into a laneway and his money stolen --his attacker was caught and was in court... but it`s a horrible thing for any visitor to go through... the majority of people here are fine and mean you no harm, but like many cities, here and abroad, you need to be `` aware`` --enjoy your visit !!

This is the arrangement that should be officially adopted. It cuts out the more “offensive” verses, while keeping to original, simple vibe of this song with the beautiful 1st verse. It includes both of Ireland’s official languages, English and Gaelic, and shows how this rebel song was first written in English then translated to Irish. It’s honestly such a shame that only the Irish chorus is used as the official anthem nowadays.

    As a German, I 💓 Ireland.
But I don't know why, my interest in this nation came at some point.
Later, by a happy coincidence, I found out that Dublin and Bonn (former capital of Germany 1949-1991) resumed diplomatic relations on 26.07.1951.
Since I was born on 26.07.2001, my interest only increased.
What emotionally gripped me more still impressed was,
    Operation Shamrock:
"Operation Shamrock was a humanitarian relief effort by the Irish Red Cross in the aftermath of World War II. It rescued over 1,000 German, Austrian and French orphans or other needy minors from possible starvation."
As a nation that threatened the whole world, and could lead it to the brink of the abyss, we were saved after the war not only by the Americans the British and the French.
    But also by Ireland.
By taking the German children into families, and only then releasing them back home as long as the living conditions in Germany have stabilized again.
Most of the children returned to Germany.
    Some stayed forever.
The former German President donated a fountain to the Irish people in the 90s as a token of gratitude.
In addition, the fate of the common division, while Germany got the luck to become a nation again in 1990, Ireland waits until today for its unification.
The former Irish President of the Council, who held the seat in the EU at that time, worked for the realization of German unity.
    And finally,
as a nation that was beaten up for centuries and suffered so much in its history, then fought its way to freedom.
Germany encouraged Ireland in its war of independence in the first half of the twentieth century, and supplied weapons.
    -Easter Raising failed in 1916.
But this failure was the beginning of Irelands long Independence war.
(De Valera, Anglo-Irish-Treaty, Free-State, Republic of Ireland)
Because of the historical tragedy that Ireland had to go through, I find it a satisfaction that a few US presidents were of Irish descent, and they made the United States what it is today.
Because of american presidents like JF Kennedy (irish heritage) and their courage to defend West Berlin and West Germany against Communism, by force of arms if necessary (look at Wikipedia: "Confrontation on Checkpoint Charlie"), we were able to create a new country "Federal Republic of Germany" and become free in 1949.
I the same year as Ireland dissolved the Free-state and became a Republic.
Northern Ireland is not a part of the South anymore, that's the result of the Anglo-Irish-Treaty.
But i think this treaty who seperate a nation, was a good thing.
It gives the people in the South a own government, an own state, her own heritage back and thats an important thing: A SAFE HOME!
We in Western-Germany also go our own way, we lost 46% landscape of our nation and 17 million citizens became hostages by communists, in this consequence we build on our side with Bonn as our new capital, for the population in the West but also for the 17 million prisoned people in the East between 1949-1990 a stable pluralistic democracy
And we followed always the rule: ,,The reunification of our nation will come one day!"
    -1990 West-Germanys dream come true.
I think in Ireland one day, this dream will come true too.
But when I became interested in Ireland without knowing the historical aspects, I don't know.
    Probably my heart told me!
    🇮🇪🇪🇺💚🇩🇪
    (Btw: since July 2022 i learn Irish-Gaelic.)

Má labhraíonn tú Rúisis nó Úcráinis beidh sé níos uamhnach fós, ach tuigim go bhfuil an fhírinne cosúil le grán amháin gainimh ar leith a fháil sa bhfásach. In aon chás, beidh áthas orm cumarsáid a dhéanamh. Tá taithí agam ag déileáil le heachtrannaigh. Teastaíonn uaim ní amháin duine a aimsiú a labhróidh faoi Éirinn, ach cara pinn freisin.

Imo, this is the arrangement of the anthem that should be official used. It uses both of Ireland’s official languages - English and Gaelic, and shows that the song was first written in English and then translated to Irish. The 3rd verse could be considered offensive, but at least the first verse should be kept instead of cutting out the verses entirely. The Soldier’s Song is a rebel song - it should have a simple vibe, and it’s honestly such a shame that only the chorus is used as the national anthem, removing a lot of the context of what makes this song so great. ❤🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Only a southern Irishman would dust his hands and call it a job well done after gaining freedom for only part of the Irish Nation. Past isn't the past with Britain until the Irish Nation is fully united. You southerners are quick to forget the suffering VERY recently up in the North here, where the past is a little more recent than yours.

@@Touhou-forever Polls consistently show anyone, most likely including your friend, who designate themselves as neither and also say they're Northern Irish as opposed to Irish or British do not consider identity or patriotism to be important to them. Maybe that's why your buddy does not care.
The majority here do. I'm a Nationalist but I don't 'cause trouble'. I live in one of the most affluent parts of Belfast. I'm not a republican- in fact I'm of Protestant blood and my dad considers himself British. I realised I was Irish and not British in my early teens via pure logic, sitting down to think about it, and reading about the history of Ireland. That's why I cannot stand the partitionist mindset of a lot of southerners. Hypocrites who glorify republican ideals, figures, and romantic flash points like the Proclamation reading, yet who have not a patriotic bone in their body. If they did, they'd stop caring about their 26 county Republic and become more concerned with the Irish Nation, which includes 'Northern Ireland' as you so readily call it. On that note, if we're Northern Ireland, you're Southern Ireland, else we're all just Ireland.
