If you don't and the wire shorts that fuse will not pop, and the wire will burn up instead, and you really don't want an electrical fire after all that work.
I agree those AAW crimpers are awesome. I have lost a lot of my hand strength due to being old and having some arthititis and I have trouble getting a good crimp with regular crimpers and insulated terminals but not so with the AAW crimpers. I do like you and pull the insulation off and use them that way but I prefer to use the Packard 56 terminals where I can.
I usually paint the ground connection with dialectic grease after tightening. Every little bit helps. Love your details.
