  • VHS recording from a Wednesday in 1986 starts with the final moments of 'Night Thoughts' followed by the weather.
Then, in vision, Thames announcer Tom Edwards goes through Thursday's programme highlights.
What follows are two slides with details of Thursday evenings programmes accompanied by music.
Finally the Thames 'Good night' clock wipes on with the time coming up to 12:22am. As it fades to black we get a final message from Tom Edwards reminding us to switch off our television sets. Those were the days!

Professional while being friendly. Good programming all the time. News you want to hear, instead of hearing that Liverpool's superbanana thing is being built everywhere. Regional identity. That was the old ITV. As I live in Liverpool, I have to receive transmissions from that abomination of mankind we know as Granada. Once, they were good with good news and sports coverage. Now, they control the whole network and show nothing but celebrity crap. Thanks Granada(!)

Tom Edwards of course always referred, as here, to Good Morning Britain as "Good Morning Great Britain".

I remember when The A Team was on Thursday once. Proper days of real shows and decent announcers Tom Edwards, Peter Marshall and Philip Elsmore legends

@@pjgathergood6987 I guess when it was not being shown by LWT then at the time of course so too?

@@brucedanton3669 Nope, the LWT run had taken a break for a few months - though when the final LWT repeat had been broadcast in the previous run, Thames did show an episode that very Thursday. London did get a bit of a raw deal with the series, skipping the first season re-run that most of the other ITV all took.

@@up-to-eleven I see there of course too. I know I did not see it at the time, but I remember seeing it shown in the TV Times in the 1980s at the time. I know with it being American it was one of those series I guess as you say which was shown around the regions at the time. I guess also other series were Magnum; The Fall Guy; TJ Hooker; Chips; Quincy; Knight Rider; to name but a few there. I know the BBC did much the same too with series such as The Dukes of Hazzard and so on too. But as you say most of the other ITV areas did show it then even if London did not?
