    The other day my friend Neil gave me 3 Wah Wah pedals to look at, I thought this might make an interesting video and if you have a similar fault with these type of pedals you might well be able to fix your own.

    Bought several non-working wahs on ebay and Craig’s list to use the enclosures for several projects. First few I didn’t question their actual working/non-working status and ripped the guts out and replaced them. Got an early Hendrix wah that I decided to plug in and it worked perfectly. Picked up a newer Cry Baby 535Q - got it cheap because it didn’t work - worked perfectly.

    I have the exact same pedal as the second one you worked on (Dunlop), but it's labeled as the Jimi Hendrix Special (Model JH-1S). It also has a scratchy pot, but the gets less scratchy after using it for a while. On the bottom panel is silk screened a picture of Jimi, and his "selected discography" starting with Are You Experienced - 1967 through Crash Landing - 1975,

      I'd Say it's Time to Get a New Dunlop Replacement Pot Making Sure to Note The Proper Pot Ohm Rating for Your Model/Rev By Simply Using a DVM/Volt/Ohm Meter on Pins 1 and 3 of The Pot Using a DVM/Volt/Ohm Meters 200K Ohm Range Setting to Make Sure You Get The Corect Ohm Value Potentiometer for Your Model/Revision Wah.

    Well done sir. I can’t fix anything but you made it look easy. Last part was difficult to see because the camera wasn’t at a good angle.

    How do you identify a "cold solder" joint?

      You can normally see a split or a crack or it just looks very very dull

    RE: the 2nd pedal, have one with similar electronics - my battery cable is routed under the circuit board. Mine was functioning but the sound was a horrible, high pitched distortion. I changed the 2 electrolytic caps before checking anything else. It sounds like it should, now. But, it's still not quite right. Because i didn't watch this video before starting i did a bit too much disassembly and i think i need to get the gear arm back to its correct spot on the gear of the pot. By the way, i have cutters that look just like that. I got them at harbor freight, but I'm in the US.

    Interesting video .I came across this hoping to find a fix for the issue i have with my Jim Dunlop GCB-95 .
    I have no tention at all so the toe position just goes straigh down without any resistance at all.
    Could you possibly advice on this or even better do an instructional video?
    You certainly know your stuff .

    • @MatthewNorthMusic
      @MatthewNorthMusic  Před 9 měsíci

      by no tension do you mean physical, or is it just going from effectively bass, to treble with no change in between ? if its the latter id suggest as a guess a wire has fallen off the pot. Or the pot is broken.

    • @MC-hx6nk
      @MC-hx6nk Před 4 měsíci

      Do you mean tension from the P-clip? i.e. the weight of the treadle is easily passing the rack through the hole and spinning the pinion/potentiometer.

    Nothing is wrong internally the problem is when I push down on the pedal it does not engage is there something that could be missing or came a loose that keeps the pedal from pushing the button down

      If There's Nothing Electrical Failing it Sounds Like Either Your SPDT (On/On) Switch May Have Gone Bad or it Needs a Height Adjustment, The Simplest Test for That is While You Have Your Wah Hooked Up With The Foot Cradle Toeup Physically Push The SPDT Switch On/Off With Your Finger, If The Effect Engages Your Switch is Good and Nothing Electrically is Failing, Which Would Mean it is The Nuts on The Switch That Need Height Adjustment, First Remove The Outer Nut on The Switch, Then Pull The Switch Out and Turn The Inner Nut Down About 2 to 3 Turns, Put The Switch Back in and Replace and Tighten The Outside Nut and Test for Proper Switch Height and See if You Can Now Toedown Your Cradle and Engage/Disengage The Effect, If Needed Repeat Those Steps Adjusting The Inner Nut Varying Turns (Clockwise/Counter Clockwise) Until The Switch Position/Height is To Your Taste/Touch.
