How to Verify Silk 22 momme Quality

- Amazon sells endless numbers of silk pillowcases. How do you know it is the stated quality? How do you verify if it really is 22 momme or if it really was 19 momme? A momme is a unit measure of quality for silk. In other fabric, they go by thread count as more threads per inch is finer but silk is too thin and needs another measurement method. 22 momme means a piece of silk fabric the size of 100 yards by 45" weighs in at 22 lbs. Bear in mind that it's not 100 ft by 45", this would be a 3x difference. Fabric is normally sold by the yard so the yard measurement is correct. Using this, you can easily calculate what your pillowcase is supposed to weigh given a size of fabric used. I did so with 4 of the most popular silk pillowcases on Amazon. Watch to see the results!

I bought a black silk shirt years ago. When I wore it, I was hot and sweated a lot. I should have checked with my girl-friends. They all told me, "Oh yeah, everybody knows silk does not breath like cotton or wool and it makes you hot." So I wonder if these pillows have the same problem, that it feels hot when you lay on it. This experience also makes me wonder that fewer momme weight is actually better since the lighter fabric will weigh less.
It was just on the back of my mind that it was slightly not as breathable. You put it into words for me.
I want to buy a 25 momme mulberry pillow from Amazon. Just when i thought it coulnt go any higher i found another pillow that has 30 momme. What are your thoughts? Should i buy 25 or 30 momme?

Silk can be different grades of course.

I don't have an issue with breathability but I suppose since its so fine, not much air would go through.
How come the Zima Silk one is a good price but if u go to the Zima silk store it's 40 something bucks. And on the page for Zima silk it's sold by Zima silk but then has another link that says visit the Zima silk store...like they have 2 stores. Hmmmm? Are the 40 something ones a better quality and they have 2 stores for different qualities?

@MYL-ix5qq I ended up buying several of the brands for different family members but haven't bought mine yet.i will be this week...and after i use abd qash it...and ask my parents abd my bf how theres was i will report back on them all..... if u don't wanna wait. I'm guessing the Tina brand will be best bec its 22 momme. That's the one I'm getting. Plus, I might get a Zima one for my bf... so will let u know...

I'd think that they'd be calculating the momme from the raw material BEFORE creating the pillowcase. It's actually pretty ridiculous for you to ASSUME their calculations were done after construction and to spend so much time focusing on that...🙄
