Crazy, 5 days ago I paid £999 for an American performer stratocaster but your squier with the Wilkinson pups sounds more strat than my American strat!!
Stopped believing in major brands long ago. They make excellent guitars, but ultimately the musician is the one who makes all things come together, and at a much lesser price. Dave Simpson plays all things inexpensive, but what a sound he makes...

@@guitarman6742the neck and neck/middle were different from the rest but everything else kinda all sounded the same
I got five old strat body cheapies that I'm giving a complete overhaul. At least three are getting this loaded pickguard.
swapped my 2010 squier strat pick ups as the tone control would cut out the sound when ever I used it. Decided to swap out the ceramic pickups even though they sounded great compared to my MIM Strat from 2019. Kept the old pickup covers as mine were a faded white from all the years. These pickups are beautiful in the mids for me and can handle overdrive so beautifully. My neck pickup has serious attitude it sounds so mean and definitely is the loudest out of all for some reason. Highly recommend these pickups and been using them for about 4-5 months.
I'm waiting for my strat kit to arrive from Aliexpress to substitute my current ceramic pickups. I loved the tone of these alnico Wilkinsons. BTW never knew there was a Tagima USA, since it's a Brazilian company (owned a couple of Tagimas in the past).
I have a set of their Tele pickups. Sound great.
My jet JS300 will have those in middle and neck position and a Hot rail in bridge :)

That could mean pickups.... or a girlfriend! 😆
But really, who buys a strat for high gain tones? May as well spend that money on an Ibanez with two buckers. You won’t hear those 2nd and 4th positions anyway. Destroys the whole point of a strat style guitar.
you can look for the Wilkinson Japan Single Coil Hot Alnico. they're pretty good as well
If you have already a SSS Strat go like me with a hotrail in the bridge you can get hotter than this 😅 and I put these Wilkinson in middle and neck position

The tonerider city limits are much better for a little more. Especially if you're looking for glassy Strat tones, which we all are.

Gotta ask a question cause I screwed myself, how do I repair a torn copper "strand" on the bridge, would soldering both broken ends back together affect the tone much, or should I unwind it once and solder a new piece in?

There seemed to be an overdriven situation when you used positions 4 and 5.
The middle pickup has slightly higher output than the bridge pickup. It’s a strange choice but it works. You still get the spank you need. Glad I bought these.

Was wondering the same thing and, from what they sound like in this clip, I think they would be very good. I can picture making my own Nile Rodgers hardtail strat clone with these because I like the sound they are putting out.

You say you're gonna go clean, but then you say you're gonna use reverb on the amp. Nobody demos these super cheap pickups using only 100% clean tone (no effects whatsoever)
Do you happen to know if there's any diff with this vs the Wilkinson japan series? both are alnico and I'm just thinking how are those japan one's are much expensive compared to this

dude you're choking out the highs way too much for a strat demo lol
just give it a hair more gain so the bass and mids come back up and don't just kill or overblow the highs like that with excessive cranking on the bass, you need to put that amp to its ideal level instead lol
it's obvious by your "skanky"sound , way too bassy to be nearly articulate enough in the mids
not that it doesn't leave a good general guitar sound, but it's wayyyy too clinical and destroys the attacks, esentially dumbing down the dynamic range of single coils, it loses all that twang and articulation on the top.
again, that's a feat on its own, respect for dialing in that smooth, but it doesn't scream "stratocaster" whatsoever, it sounds a strat trying to not be strat, way too repressed.
source: i have been playing a vintage/wilkinson HSS strat for 9 years, mine skanks the fuk out of whatever you dialed in on the amp, these attacks sound numb o me, pick the thing a bit harder would you and give the treble some more room to work with?
