True GM VATS/Pass Key Delete (not bypass)

  • If you have a GM vehicle with the VATS/Pass Key security system and are completely removing the ECM, for example if you're swapping to a carburetor, then you will need to enable both the starter and the fuel pump yourself. In this episode we'll take a look at the wiring diagrams for a '91 Camaro and see how to do a complete VATS delete.
    This is not the typical resistor bypass to trick the ECM into believing there's a proper key installed, this is a complete pull-the-ECM-and-throw-it-away conversion.

    One note after looking at things on the vehicle. On the starter enable relay, the wiring diagram says it's a tan/white wire going to the starter. This car has no tan/white wire at all on the relay. Connecting it to green (which the wiring diagram doesn't show at all) worked. So if you don't have a tan/white, but do have a green, connect yellow->green.

    Thanks for the info, This is why a person would only want to bypass it with the resistor, unless they were going to go back to basics with a carberator and other basic parts.

    Sounds like a great deal to me feels like the good old days. I’m thinking about trying this with a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. Then no more key programming crap anymore. Now just take any key we cut make copy just start it up and have fun 🤩 cool 😎

    Great video. I only need to add the resistor but you had me interested with the logic rabbit hole. Thank you for your time

    This was several years ago, I hope you are still monitoring this channel. I have been looking for something like this for a while. TY,TY,TY. I have looked everywhere for wiring diagrams and they are just not available to the general public. You need an account with All Data or something. I even ordered a repair manual from Haynes and when I found out there are no wiring diagrams, I sent it back and they gave me my money back. I'm thinking about just jumping out the relays, if I can find them. I have a 2007 Buick Lacrosse that has been sitting for two months. The bypass and re-learn process just doesn't work on this thing. Can I take a hot wire from an ignition on and put it to the starter relay at the 30 or 87 terminal, which ever one enables the starter and another one to the fuel pump relay to enable it? There are two starter and two fuel pump relays in the fuse box under the hood. So when you turn the key on all four are enabled. I don't care what color the wires are, I'm sure they will be different anyway. Do you know if that will work and are there any other relays that I have to concern myself with. I am desperate.

    Wait... Whaaaa? "Hold the phone!!"
    Can you go from a keyed hot/positive wire to the (I think it "IS, red?) Test wire up under the hood & "RUN" your fuel pump like, that? It makes sense, I never thought about doing, that. That single red wire hanging out usually with a flat/white, connector, would be easily tapped in to with a Male spade, connector? (Just saying.)

    My VATS has the security light flashing all the time on 1989 C4, which has been draining the battery/ Any suggestions?

      Not sure if I still have the wiring diagram for this car - we sold it and bought another project. That said, I'd look at the diagram and find which wire controls the light - it almost certainly comes off the ECU, just like the VATS inputs. I'd just either de-pin it (so pull the wire and pin out of the connector) or cut the wire, depending on if you care if it's a reversible modification.

    Did I miss something? Which wire did you use as a power source to enable the fuel?

    Does this method also work if the PCM has Passkey or Vats deleted from the programming?

    Thanks, I have a 1994 Buick Roadmaster LT1 engine, only the engine, computer and harness, is there a line that goes to the computer, does it need any signal? to turn on?

    Hi, I have a 96 RS and am wondering if this can be applied to the V6. I've tried a bypass and it worked for a second and the module went out on the car and I want to delete all of the Vats.

    • @YoshimoshiGarage
      @YoshimoshiGarage  Před rokem +1

      Yes, this would work on a V6 or V8.

      Can confirm, it works for the starter. Still no injectors but I think I have a sensor on its way out. Would definitely recommend this bypass over buying a new vats system any day of year! Keep up the good work and valuable knowledge!👍😁
