Great video, The Stig is a legend. Finally Autotempest has an App!!!!
the Lancia addiction is just getting started..
Lmao, being a diesel guy, I’ve always loved that oil leak mindset. If it’s leaking oil, that’s means it’s got some left.
Applies to two stroke detroits mainly
What is a "diesel guy"?
@@PointNemo9 a guy that primarily drives diesel?
@@godzillaxred Why do you put a question mark after a statement?
That rule applies to many aircraft. V-22 Osprey and MiG-23 come to mind, but I'm sure there are many more.
I agree, the handbrake as a button is rubbish in idea, one of the best things about lever activation is that you can apply gradual pressure or almost instant lock which is just more comforting for me as a driver.
And you instantly know which state it's in (engaged or not), rather than needing to peer into a poorly-laid out dashboard with a teeny tiny icon that may or may not be blocked by the steering wheel. The only good thing about a button is that it saves more space, but not worth the downsides imo
@@jst_TV It is also much cheaper with the electronic driver aids cars have, as you don't need to build the whole handbrake system. Saves space under the car as well. I also prefer a proper handbrake though, for peace of mind and practicality.
Handbrake used to be considered a safety feature for when all else fails, now that features just a parking brake.
Remember we want controll not actual safety.
@@asdasd-ni8eg That is some paranoid shit right there. Why try and make this some dumbass conspiracy about "control". It is so childish.
The function of the handbrake hasn't changed, nor has the reason for having it. The only thing that has changed is the way you operate.
cannot stand the button!
997 Turbo is a great underrated car compared to other car in it's class
One of my favorites.
😊
No I don't think so it's a great car, it's still cost a lot for a used one.
underated? have you checked the prices on them recently?
@@davidm.5669I feel like it’s just something people say when they like something lol. Like: “the 2jz is a great engine, so underrated”…
Doug has the Stig’s dream car - that’s how you know you’ve made it lol
Paul walker's dream to
@@adelinogoncalves1180 should’ve had friends that had better tires 🤷🏾♂️
The other way you can tell is, people know who you're referring to with just a first name -- in context of course.
It's a dream car for a lot of people. Probably professional drivers even more so.
@@adelinogoncalves1180he would say it's to die for
Some say even Ed doesn’t know who the Stig is
The Stig in a Delta, I know I am biased towards cars with a rally heritage, but this just sounds perfect.
they rock
For me, this is the best Vinwiki in a long time. Stig's description of the Carrera GT was fabulous. 😊
thank you - I'm at event where there are 8 Carrera GT cars I can't believe it
Ben’s emphasis and focus on smell is very interesting. It’s not something you see a lot in garden-variety gearheads, but I’ve seen it a lot on professional drivers. I guess it’s something that can help you discern whether or not you’re in a death trap, if the thing doesn’t smell right.
Really? A lot of car guys talk about the smell of cars. Especially classic cars. You can actually tell what brand you're sitting in without opening your eyes. A 66' Mustang smells very different from a 66' 911.
🤣
All my cars have smelled of fish and chips!
Doug: Thiiiis is the Stig, and today he is going to review my Carrera GT 🎉
No no
I read that in clarksons voice without even realizing at first
And he's gonna go over all of it's quirks and features
I'm seeing a Hammond's Workshop episode with Ben's barn-find Integrale EVO being restored in the future. That would be a great full circle episode for the Top Gear fans.
This man is the only true superhero. Forget Ironman or cap, this guy was THE STIG.
As an ex British army soldier I can attest that when the defender 90s were parked up in our hanger in a row every one of them had an oil drip tray underneath. It was just standard practice to always put one underneath when parked 🤣
brilliant
Its the in-built chassis-rust-proofing design from the factory as standard!
1:16 My friend who collect old Triumph motorcycle use this method to check his oil
Not what I was expecting.
This guys tastes span wider than a Texas Buc-ees.
As a Texas who has spent time at alot of Buc-ees along I-10, I can relate
Texas, the Anus of the USA.
When I was 19yrs old(1991) I had a job as a fitter at a small independent 2 bay tyre & exhaust shop and my manager was given a company car which was a 1989 Peugeot 309GTI and I got to drive the 309GTI quite often and I will never forget one time I was going flat out on the M4 doing about 125-130mph(this was when motorways didn't have speed cameras every 500yrds) when all of a sudden this red Lancia Delta Integrale HF 16v flew past me going 140+mph.
I loved that one. You can really tell how he connected with those certain cars in the way he talks about them. Very cool story.
Ben Collins - THE ULTIMATE NO B/S CAR GUY AND DRIVER 👏
Jesus Christ man, I feel exactly the same way about a handbrake. It is a great tool. My first car was an everything-mechanical Mazda 323. I used to throw that beautiful car around turns with that handbrake, the most fun of my life.
If anyone should hoon a T.50S it's this guy
So ben collins (the old stig) and chris harris (new top gear) both have thin body integralia.
"I can't stand the buttons, the buttons are crap." Well said Ben! VinWiki needs to make a shirt that says "Millenials for Manuals." Cheers!
Ben's insights into the driving and handling characteristics of his favourite cars is like having a bible containing the best driver's cars one can get. I loved every pick for all the same reasons. It's a pity most auto manufacturers are now making cars for people who can't drive.
Thank you, Your character The STIG inspired a Spartacus like response in U.S. gear heads. " I am The STIG" or " We are The STIG." depending on the situation. " The STIG" bits is my favorite part of Top Gear. Thank You. I actually dropped over a thousand U.S. Dollars on the Alpine star gear for Halloween and to use with my Motorcycle.
Sting’s the man!! And clearly has awesome taste in cars!! I thought the Chevrolet lacetti would have featured there 😂
Yeh!...and he was fab on " every breath you take" .as well .....sorry, couldnt resist ..lol
How smooth is your brain
@@Theblueyedguy I would have made a joke about doing donuts in a field of gold. But I approve.
@@whyjnot420 lol
Shiny metal boxes🎶
"If it's not leaking, it's run out of oil." True that, 1967 Series IIa owner here. Land Rover install the oil leaks at the factory.
Its the in-built chassis-rust-proofing design from the factory as standard!
Some say he can't go down stairs and must be air lifted, others say he texts via homing pigeon, all we know is he's called The Stig.
The problem with electric handbrakes is when you push the button while on the move they activate the service brakes using the ABS pump, so both axles ( unless the ABS unit has failed then the park brake callipers get applied, but no finesse, just a fixed decel.
i use that Landrover saying all the time 😂
+1 on a physical handbrake❤
i hope he gets his Lancia!
You can talk about the Lancias and the Porsches all you want, what I found most staggering was his obvious love for his old ex MOD D90 and not just as a fashion accessory.
In a parallel universe somewhere there's a TG episode of Ben in the Stigs outfit doing a lap in the Squaddie Shit Stomper!
997.2 turbo! The lord has spoken! Couldn’t agree more, one of the best Porsches ever made ❤
My daughter drives an old Isuzu but as nice as it is it's also a very basic diesel 4x4 that has that character that modern cars don't have.
The statement of a manual lets the car do what you tell it to do, rings so truefrom a guy whose beat on some cars.
If it's leaking oil, that means it's got oil.
It's not leaking, it's marking its territory.
Find you a girl that talks to you the same way Ben talks about his lancia you can tell how excited he is about that car
Thanks Ed, for all of the recent Ben Collins content.
I couldn’t tell what car that was blurred out on the thumbnail, I would’ve never guessed 😂
Doug fist pumping the air @7:50
02:40 Of course, don't use the handbrake on a Land Rover while moving, as it doesn't operate on the rear brakes like most cars, but is a transmission brake.
What an amazing story teller👏🏾🫡
@2:28 completely agree with the handbrake. I've been saved loads of times in the snow and ice by using it.
The handbrake button literally removes a safety feature.
First of all great video.
I am adressing something which nobody is asking and it s painfull to listen from Ben:
How can this guy(the stig) which has been there for numerous seasons, who kept us glued to the screens and gave us the real emotion by seeing him creating a balance between man and machine couldn t afford a 997 turbo after leaving top gear? I mean is this one of the reasons he left? I find this information disturbing for such a legend
They say The Stig spent all his Top Gear salary buying *4 new tyres every month!* . . . All those burnouts and donuts! And that was just in his driveway before work.
Thats what I was thinking.. I can't belive that working for at the time biggest motoring show and having such an important role, he couldn't afford a 997 turbo.. That really is disturbing.. I can't imagine how he felt.
The same thought occurred to me. The presenters and the BBC were shoveling millions, and he was given peanuts. Rather unfair, I think.
stig is also a Porsche enjoyer
Everyone always says the Carrera GT’s clutch isn’t great, but I think most of that is attributed to the fact that you don’t feather it out when you’re leaving a stop. You just let it out and then hit the gas. To me that sounds more convenient and easier.
Evo restoration should be done at the Smallest Cog
Auto tempest has an app now! Hallelujah!
I've just bought a Delta, that I'm going to turn in to an 'Integrale Evo', nice to see it on his list!
Knock you socks off! But pleeeeaase don't use original evo parts. It's difficult enough for us evo owners to find parts for our cars...
@@scuderianorreno hmmmmm nope, not going to use Evo parts, as much as I'd like to (aside from a replica bodykit). What I'm doing might piss a few people off 😁
Stigs car thought it won the lottery, when it found out its new owner 🥳
Handbrakes come in handy if you are running from the police at night, the braking without lights is great.
The first time I saw a nice S6 was with the perfect customer. A Funeral Home Director. He loves cars, but couldn't be seen as being flashy by grieving families, so he drove understated Audi S and RS cars because it was less offensive.
I KNEW he would have a Porsche.
Fantastic car.
Been trying to decide if I should keep my 997 turbo or change it
i couldn't find the autotempest app on the apple store, anyone else had problems finding it?
Good taste. 997 also my favourite water cooled 911. Great balance of sufficient modern drivability, fun and value for money…… for now.
This video was as good as i expected
Damn those are good answers.
Let's tag Doug Demuro so the Stig can drive his Carrera Gt, imagine what that'd be like
My daily is a manual also.
"YEAH, WHATEVER BROADBENT, I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME!"
Greetings from Poland Stig.
Admittedly, I've never been a Porsche guy, but I can definitely say I've always loved the Carrera GT. Ever since NFS Hot Pursuit 2. So beautiful
Another BC classic from Mr Bolian. Nice one Vin Wiki.
Was that Mike Fernie on the Polish show too?
Stig !!! Yessss, the best winwikki episode ever 😁😁😁👌🏼
wish u'll get your carrera gt soon !
If there's no oil under them, there's no oil in them!!😂
The tumbnail makes it look like a Dodge Omni or a Hyundai Pony (perhaps a Simca 1307). Viscous limited slip FTW LMAO.
thats also my top three 205 gti, Integrale and Carrera GT :)
This guy basically has my dream 3 car garage
6:40 That's not a real image. It's pulled from a video game. Look at the center column. It's got sharp edges.
That great you got some time with him! Is he in Atlanta for the Pantera concert next month?
Thats already happening?
@@Bozar069 haha! No, its in August, but I just tried to think of the most absurd reason for an English guy to be in Atlanta
I was wondering this last night
The fact that Ben chose a 997 turbo says a lot
1:50 no worries Ben translation was alright
Seen a rolls royce cullinan we the reg plate STIG in mayfair recently
Pretty sure it was him
can't believe sting was the stig all along
Sir the only stig i acknowledge is the Mexican Stig
Stig binge day 2!
Ben Collins, meet Doug DeMuro. :)
Drivers love analog vehicles
Been Collins is super cool
Great video
I Never Knew That StG's ID Was Ever Revealed.
Glad To Know that He's " Not " An Android or Space Alien !!!
I refuse to this day to call them purjos it’s a Pew-gee-ott
Pu-Gi-Oh!
That's awesome you got Ben Collins on!
"... if it doesn't leak, it's because it ran out of oil ..." ... LMAO
Someone get this man out to San Diego so he can drive around Doug DeMuro’s CGT.
Doug Demuro is full chubbed right now knowing the last car he mentioned
very good taste
I guess when you have that kind of money you can pronounce Porsche however you want 😮💨
A true dog🔥🔥🔥
What I always thought about the people debating paddles vs manual etc. Everything for its use. Whip an old Escort around some public roads, you WANT manual and you'll never break 100 Km/h anyways. Track? Porsche doppelkopplungsjfwkejtlwkhgg and paddles ftw
"It looks just as rad..." I don't remember the last time I heard someone use the word "Rad"
My dream job to be stig witta 1900hp r33😂😂
Please, save that EVO
Doug needs to get The Stig to drive his Carrera GT.
Bro he already drove the carrera gt and even harder than any owner
As an 80s XJ owner I can attest to the leak policy.
Old Mercs and Beemers leak too. It’s physics. All seals leak when they are old.
You heard the man, "a real manly man prefers a raw old-school, smelly, manual machine"
Is this a spoil alert for drivetribe?
Having British creators but not having the app available to download on the UK app store 💀💀💀
Got to say i recently came across this channel and its great
