Even though this isn't real life, the way that abed said "I'm devastated" made it seem like it came from a real life experience. I genuinely feel sorry for abed.
Acting is revealing, expression. When we release pain, we become visible to each other, and that is an actor's job. That and, you know, pretending to be other people.
The man learned sign language just to talk to a girl he likes but then Britta happened. Efforts wasted and destroyed for friendship for like, $50 maybe.

holy crap, not only is this one of the worst things Britta has done, but also to Abed, literally the first episode without Troy, Abed just lost his best friend and Britta does this to the guy. Britta is hands down the worst.

I think it's really interesting how this scene showcases Abed's character development. Abed is more bothered by the girl not actually being interested in him than he is bothered by the spoilers. Season 1 Abed wouldn't have reacted like this at all.
Britta changed into a different character in season 2, maybe towards end of season 1 too. Its a shame because shes the character that got me intrigue in Community, and Community is one of my fav sitcom ever. Dan Harmon seemed to decide to let Annie took the lead female character from Britta to solve the romantic connection of Jeff, and since she was reduced to a supporting character Harmon turned her into the butt of the group, second to only Chang.
She still does care for Abed like a sister. This entire episode was them spoiling things for each other with these jerky pranks. Siblings can sometimes be cruel and vengeful when angry.
@@bibhutichhatria1574 I never really saw her as being "sisterly". Rather, she seemed to treat abed like a porcelain doll, worried about hurting his feelings and almost acting like he's a baby. Of everyone, Jeff was the only one who treated him like a person and found a way to connect with him.
She realizes her mistake right after this scene. Actually not even after this scene, it's literally in this very same scene. If the clip continued on for another 10 seconds Abed storms off hurt and immediately Britta realizes what's she's just done and feels terrible. She wasn't trying to hurt his feelings she was just was just trying to spoil something for him because he spoiled something for her earlier in the episode and didn't really care

It bothers me so much how this group sometimes treats Abed ( like in season 6 when he keeps flashing back Because he KNEW something bad was going to happen the group left why he was talking and then Jeff HIT him later) Don't even get me started on Hickey handcuffing him and Anne in the Dreamatoriam. I LOVE all the characters and you can feel anyway you want this is just my two cents.

I'm not autistic, but I'm introverted enough to have had this struggle throughout my life. Get told I'm too quiet, find that rare someone who seems worth reaching out to, then have them make me regret it and act like it shouldn't even phase me. Those who treat me as socially detached/inept are always the coldest people.
This is the first episode since Troy left. Abed is only just starting to form a connection with someone...and Britta does that. She really is the worst. This is something on the level of what Pierce did in the D&D episode.
I think this script was written with Pierce in mind; but with Chevy Chase gone they shoehorned Britta into the script instead; and it worked well up until this ending which just is so out-of-character from Britta it's ridiculous. What she did to Abed was incredibly cruel and over the line, and she should've had the social-awareness to *know* it; and she was a 'psyc' major obsessed with helping the group overcome their personal problems...granted she was comically inept at it but even so was empathetic and sincere. And her throwing around cash that way also really clashed with her established character too. And, oh yeah, season 1 episode "Physical Education" Britta was on-board with trying to *help* Abed get a girlfriend! What the hell happened to her?! The episode could have worked far better if the conflict was Britta trying to get Abed to express himself with regards to Troy's departure, or maybe after if the relationship fell apart organically, etc.; and Abed started using spoilers to lash out at her, that could of worked story-wise without tarnishing a good character. To the show's limited credit, it seemed like the writers realized their mistake and didn't have Britta stay this way.
This season was written knowing chevy wouldn't come back, so they probably didn't write it with him in mind, though it does seem like something he'd do. Also, Britta is bad with her money, this is established in Intermediate Documentary Filmmaking .
OTOH its the sort of shit Pierce woulda done to a guy who just lost his best friend because he was feeling jealous/happy/mad/sad/vengeful towards Abed and his relationship with Troy.

I don’t think anyone in the group is innocent. He’s the off-the-wall one, and as such is prone to being more childish, but he has a lot of knowledge of some of the things being done like everyone else. Take it from someone on the spectrum who often got cloying comments about how innocent I was, it feels infantilizing to be called that. It’s also a common thing in fandom when fans may have a crush on a character, they overplay their innocence. There’s reasoning for it, and sometimes it is backed up by the canon, but other times it feels reductive to the characters’ depth. (I hope this didn’t come across as condescending or preachy, it’s just an interesting phenomenon I’ve noticed and figured this may be an apropos place to bring it up. To your credit, I’m also bummed someone would do that to Abed. I’ve had people pretend to like me for person gain before; I would date Abed in a heartbeat. We have so much in common lol)
My reaction to this episode in a nutshell: Aw this is really cute it’s nice to see these Abed connects with a girl episodes and it’s good that he’s interacting with new people especially since Troy just le- OH GODDAMMIT BRITTA YOU’RE THE WORST
One thing i wish we could have seen is Abed having a Troy meeting levar Burton level meltdown. I think it really would have humanized his character better
And yet season 4 is considered the gas leak year. Seriously this was completely out of character for Britta. Shirley also acted weird during season 5, in several episodes she acted like Pierce.

I get that the show had to evolve and I respect that it tried new things but I think it failed more than it succeeded. No one was screwed up more than Chang. Chang is crazy, but he always had a purpose to his craziness. In season 5 and 6 he just becomes crazy for crazy's sake because that's funny apparently. Community is about breaking stereotypes. I expected more. Tons of sitcoms laugh at the crazy guy, because the crazy guy does crazy things. It's Always Sunny is literally built off this premise.

Season 6 went darkest because I guess Dan Harmon's mental state wasn't in the best condition and a lot of the main characters have left the show, makes sense that they all became gloomier/weirder? Plus I think there was some Rick and Morty vibes rubbing onto it.. which I wished that wouldn't have been the case. I personally like that the characters changed, it can be tiring to see characters behave in a predictable manner. Even for Chang, I think his character was given more depth despite how his craziness went over the usual bar. All in all, I guess it depends on each person's perspective.. it would've been great to have had the same writing energy and strength from seasons 1-3 .. but I'm glad season 6 was it's own nutcase thing.

God, this comment section is a big fat joke. 30 seconds more to this clip and you would all be eating your own words. It's a full on Abed vs Britta Spoiler train throughout the episode. He also makes fun of her using sign language, and you call Britta as the worst when she asks someone with sign language to spoil the ending? Besides, she happily took the cash and went, which means it really doesn't matter how much Abed likes her, cos she'll give him up easily. Not only does Britta try apologising in those next 30 seconds, but you see Abed come across Rachel again. He opens with blaming not calling her on the gas leak, before acknowledging that he should've done that. They then go watch Rick and Morty together. Moral, Britta didn't want to hurt Abed. And she feels sad when she sees what she did. That's a big thing you judgy nincompoops missed in the probably deliberately cut clip. Also, people forgetting the very beginning? 3rd episode of the show and Abed misuses all of Britta's money on cameras and claiming it's "Showbusiness" when Britta says that it wasn't nice to her? Or in the very previous episode he calls her cloning sloppy, or that he abandons her during the lava game? Everyone enjoys a joke when it's at the expense of Britta. Almost like everyone wants to join the "Britta is the worst" bandwagon.

She knew Abed wasn't willing to let go before anyone else admitted. She took all of Evil Abed's blunt in season three finale in an attempt to get through to him. I've had enough of the sympathy for Abed. None of the characters are fully good or idealistic or innocent. He started that game of spoilers. And if that girl was that easy to switch sides for money, then trust me, what happened was for better, irrespective of whether he meets Rachel after that. They all said their goodbyes to Troy. Or, and hear me out on this one cause I know it's crazy out there, she's an actress who accepted a role on one show and then accepted another role on a different, completely unrelated show to the previous one and the deaf thing is because she's really deaf in real life, so she can only play people who communicate through sign langauge.
Actually, this actress isn't completely deaf. She has Ménière's disease which can cause a person to sometimes lose their hearing on occasion. So sometimes she has complete hearing loss and sometimes she doesn't. (I don't know if she identifies as deaf or not because of this, so she could totally still identify as a deaf person and I know she does have ties with the deaf community).
This is the absolute worst thing anyone (besides criminals and murderers) could do. Britta ruined a good relationship for Abed just to get back at Abed for slipping up and saying a spoiler, something I’m sure plenty of people have done
I love Abed to the core but he screwed up when he spoiled Britta's book for her in the study room. He was unapologetic about it. That's why Britta took revenge and it was justified. Sad about how things turned out in the end though.
you do realise it is hinted that Abed has Asperger's syndrome right? If that is the case, him being unapologetic about it is not because he's a dick but because his mind doesn't understand why it would be important to do so Britta's response however is completely intentional

ok, but learning what a spoiler is, and why it matters to not spoil media stuff, is not difficult to understand. It's a rule we all learn, even though we all don't want to do it. (We *all* want to spoil.) Abed is entirely capable of learning rules about social conduct. But this one he gets wrong? Even though he is clear on what spoilers are and why they have meaning? No. I'm not saying he got what he deserved, but Asperger's is not a get-out-of-jail-free card, especially when we already know Abed is capable of learning social codes, and following them (even when he doesn't understand them).

@@robrick9361 hmm I think it depends from what perspective you're going to view them from .. I think the characters became a bit weirder for a reason. Season 6 went darkest because I guess Dan Harmon's mental state wasn't in the best condition and a lot of the main characters have left the show, makes sense that they all became gloomier/weirder? Plus I think there was some Rick and Morty vibes rubbing onto it.. which I wished that wouldn't have been the case.
I personally like that the characters changed, it can be tiring to see characters behave in a predictable manner.
Even for Chang, I think his character was given more depth despite how his craziness went over the usual bar.
All in all, I guess it depends on each person's perspective.. it would've been great to have had the same writing energy and strength from seasons 1-3 .. but I'm glad season 6 was it's own nutcase thing.

Although season 6 did make a joke about that, so they were somewhat aware of what they were doing (the episode with the emails, Chang mentions how he hasn't been as well utilized since season 1).

It's a full on Abed vs Britta Spoiler train throughout the episode. He also makes fun of her using sign language, and you call Britta as the worst when she asks someone with sign language to spoil the ending? Besides, she happily took the cash and went, which means it really doesn't matter how much Abed likes her, cos she'll give him up easily.
Not only does Britta try apologising in those next 30 seconds, but you see Abed come across Rachel again. He opens with blaming not calling her on the gas leak, before acknowledging that he should've done that. They then go watch Rick and Morty together.
Moral, Britta didn't want to hurt Abed. And she feels sad when she sees what she did. That's a big thing you judgy nincompoops missed in the probably deliberately cut clip.
Also, people forgetting the very beginning? 3rd episode of the show and Abed misuses all of Britta's money on cameras and claiming it's "Showbusiness" when Britta says that it wasn't nice to her? Or in the very previous episode he calls her cloning sloppy, or that he abandons her during the lava game?
Everyone enjoys a joke when it's at the expense of Britta. Almost like everyone wants to join the "Britta is the worst" bandwagon.

You want to talk about Britta studying psychology? She knew Abed wasn't willing to let go before anyone else admitted. She took all of Evil Abed's blunt in season three finale in an attempt to get through to him.
I've had enough of the sympathy for Abed. None of the characters are fully good or idealistic or innocent. He started that game of spoilers. And if that girl was that easy to switch sides for money, then trust me, what happened was for better, irrespective of whether he meets Rachel after that.

Or, and hear me out on this one cause I know it's crazy out there, she's an actress who accepted a role on one show and then accepted another role on a different, completely unrelated show to the previous one and the deaf thing is because she's really deaf in real life, so she can only play people who communicate through sign langauge.

Actually, this actress isn't completely deaf. She has Ménière's disease which can cause a person to sometimes lose their hearing on occasion. So sometimes she has complete hearing loss and sometimes she doesn't. (I don't know if she identifies as deaf or not because of this, so she could totally still identify as a deaf person and I know she does have ties with the deaf community).

I love Abed to the core but he screwed up when he spoiled Britta's book for her in the study room. He was unapologetic about it. That's why Britta took revenge and it was justified. Sad about how things turned out in the end though.

ok, but learning what a spoiler is, and why it matters to not spoil media stuff, is not difficult to understand. It's a rule we all learn, even though we all don't want to do it. (We *all* want to spoil.) Abed is entirely capable of learning rules about social conduct. But this one he gets wrong? Even though he is clear on what spoilers are and why they have meaning? No. I'm not saying he got what he deserved, but Asperger's is not a get-out-of-jail-free card, especially when we already know Abed is capable of learning social codes, and following them (even when he doesn't understand them).
