- I find it necessary to change the Transmission and Differential oil on any used car I've ever gotten. Although it probably wasn't necessary on this car due to mileage and condition, it sure feels good to know for sure it's been changed and is new.

The way you always say “Dang it!” when you hurt yourself always cracks me up
@Dominick Where forth are these race cars you speak of? I am completely unaware of any purpose built cars in the stable.
Tip for doing diff plugs with low clearance. Use your socket and a box wrench on the hex side.
So nice to work on stuff and not have rust or dirt falling into your eyeballs all the time!
Need a "What am I Doing" T-shirt. Good stuff.
BMW m3s are beautiful to see "restored" from a enthusiast car guy..good work
Hey Matt, Nice job awesome to have a lift it’s been my experience that the dif fluid stays much cleaner than the trans fluid so that’s probably never been changed but then again who knows for sure also maybe the next time around after draining the fluid pump about a quarter quart in before putting in the drain plug and push out the last of the old fluid you’d be surprised how much actually is still in there it only adds a couple minutes to the job not quite a full flush but a quick flush lots of great videos keep them coming and have a good one.
True E36 enthusiasts know you won't disappoint. Truly OG spec.
Keep doin you Matt luv what you do
Man I miss my E36...(SMG swapped 328is not an M3) but this reminded me about how straight forward everything used to be on a BMW and I think I'm going to put a new engine in her to get her going again. Thank you sir!
Thanks Matt
Absolutely nothing wrong with O.G. Spec OE+. Everything you said is spot on. Hope your good. Michelin Man on the forehead. I saw stars...
Matt, your E36 is looking great. Your attention to detail is phenomenal . Don’t listen to the critics. BMW bro’s can be an odd bunch. I lived in Orlando about 6 years ago, and had a beautiful E39 530i sport package with a manual trans. My ride and I were not considered cool by the local BMW clergy because I didn’t have a 2002 or a E30 M3. To sum, I guess I am trying to say, consider the sources !
really does make you feel good! when an use 1x a year tool saves you time and headache xD Loving the e36
Damn that transmission barely had anything in it.
ECS Tuning sells a BMW driveline wrench that has the 14mm allen for those plugs and also a 17mm 6 point hex. It works awesome!
There’s also a 14mm hex wrench included in the trunk mounted kit for this.
Ahhh. Nice clean underside. Golden.
My ZF box wasn't bad, but with new oil it kept getting better over the course of perhaps three years (and around 12k miles) until it came to the point where it is today. I've seen others report the same odd behaviour.
There is a special place in Heaven for people who can work on cars, while being on camera, without cussing
I rewound it 3 times to watch the head whack! 😃😆💪
Lol I remember Matt gave away his engine hoist and hydraulic press because they were harbour freight. But for something that you store away and only use it once very couple of years, I would just keep them. Heck, I removed the harbour freight stickers and ceramic coated them and they look better than snap ons
Unless you have plenty of space. I'll punt something in a heartbeat that's even remotely taking up valuable floor space. And I hate moving stuff to get to something else. I take no pride in this statement.
Keep the car, it's gonna be better than stocks as time goes by.
You should sell it to a Honda Bro after you've finished see what there missing out on 👊
Do they make magnetic plugs for this like they do for the oil pans
Yellow paint isn’t a good indication that the bolts haven’t been touched before. The yellow paint still shows on my e36 m3. I’ve changed the fluid many times - owned the car for 10 years and it has ~125k miles.
Noticed on your transmission drain plug there are some threads remaining after torquing down? Is this normal? On my car the plug is threaded all the way in. But it looked like you got yours to the right torque without needing to seat the threads all the way in... just wondering if thats normal for when I change my fluid
Matt, nice looking car, no blue wheels please 😎
Im sure all the guysvwho work with you can help find uses for the rest of the dry ice.
personally I use the KS Tools | 150.9275 too easy 😊👌
you are missing the word "fluid" or "oil" in the title
Just questioning your diff fluid choice... I think you said straight gear oil but the M3 is limited slip and needs either "friction modifier" additive or a fluid specified for LSD...
You can easily add some of the LSD modifier... You don't want to lose the lockup.
u are correct the fluid he used does not have modifier
That trans is 20 drips overfilled!
B o n k
First off I want to say I love the Channel, but nobody except you and I are as crazy about making sure everything is up to "OG Spec" and change all the fluids when they get a car. So at 36,000 miles i bet nobody has ever replaced those fluids.
Huh. I think most bmw owners change fluids when they get car regardless of miles. I’ve had my m3 for 20 years. I changed transmission fluid at 45k, 67k, 100k, and 134k. About the same for diff but have also swapped in other diff back and forth few times. As a crazy owner I still want to see under his transmission, rear subframe and under that fuel filter cover among other things… pretty sure I got him beat in the obsessed cleanliness ;)
Oops thats a tire!
I miss being called little Honda bro
I'd think the dry ice machine will be extremely useful when mounting and balancing tires. Figure out where the new weights go, mark it, drice it, stick the new weights on, coat the area, done.
Any new raptor videos coming soon? I relate and enjoy those videos even more than these since I drive a truck as well. Either way, love everything your doing.
I will be doing TE37s and full detail on the Raptor soon.
Man I was hoping for a gosh darn blood Hand...

M3 Bro What's an e36?
That the model designation. 1994 to 1999 M3 is an E36.
Do what makes you happy, imo just don't give it away.
Host a financial/entrepreurship/business plan class.
"Show me your business plan!"
Your advice is worth more than free stuff.
@Dominick Yes you could.
"Omg he didn't torq the bolts to spec" - some internet weeb somewhere in his mom's basement complaining to Matt about a car he will never own 🤣🤣
Stfu. In defense of the ‘weebs’, Matt purports to be somewhat of a perfectionist, people expect things to be done a certain way.
I have never seen someone torque drain/fill plugs x) But engine components, suspension, brakes, etc.. i always do..
I don't support any of that. I just do what I want.
@@ObsessedGarage And I thought the girls seeking justification regarding the Civic were simple-minded. The M3s really bring the cat claws out.
@@Zodiam. if you have the torque spec why wouldn't you? No excuses when you're doing one car on your home lift...
What a CLICKBAIT 😡
"E36 M3 Transmission & Differential 'OIL' Change"
Do you even have a car
If this was on VinWiki, the title would have said 'Rebuilding a totaled M3 barnfind while getting arrested'.
