- The Tuttles with AJ Lee at Dead On The Creek festival in Willits, CA.
Ripple was written by Robert Hunter in 1970. Jerry Garcia wrote the music to this song. Several lines throughout the song have been compared to the 23rd Psalm of the Bible.
AJ Lee - lead vocals, mandolin
Molly Tuttle - harmony vocals, guitar
Sullivan Tuttle - guitar
Jack Tuttle - upright bass
Michael Tuttle - mandolin
john mailander - fiddle
These two ladies have come along way since this video
Indeed they are both among only 5 total nominees for the International Bluegrass Music Association award for best female vocalist in 2024 as well!
Her voice is like warm honey. What a gift.
love that
She is a bit more talented than the flavor of the day...Taylor swift
I am an old man and this has always been one of my favorite songs this has to be the best version I have ever heard and I've been listening to it for over 50 years great job
I am a '48 model human myself..This version is Jerry Approved from afar, I am sure.
Absolutely beautiful. Jerry is smiling down at this one for sure.
Amen
She has perfect pitch. Every note is so accurate
"Let it be known...there is a fountain... that was not made, by the hands of men." Maybe the most spiritual line in popular music history. Beautifully sung.
Amen
When I want to smile, feel better, and lower my blood pressure, I listen to this. AJ is amazing.
AJ an absolute beauty.
If there were a heaven it would be sitting under a tree playing music like this with friends and family.
holy crap, AJ Lee, this is probably the best rendition I ever heard.
Thank you

I think I'm gonna call my work, tell 'em I'm sick, stay home and listen to these amazing folks all day.
Just one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
AJ Lee has the voice of an angel! ❤
Beautiful song and AJ Lee does a wonderful job god bless her beautiful voice
I must be in HEAVEN because I'm listening to an angel. ❤
Ripple is perhaps the greatest modern popular mystical song ever written. Without a doubt the best version is the original Grateful Dead studio version, but this version is a close second. Beautifully, beautifully sung.
Andy Peace I agree. Mostly enjoy their live versions of almost any song. But Ripple studio version just has that raw splendor that comes from the beginning of something beautiful. I truly think they knew how special it was from the start. Jerry didn’t play it often because of how much it meant to him.
I would throw the Playing for Change version in also.
The truth.
@@kurtsaxton823 Really not fair 🙂 ... putting together All-Stars from around the globe, with PFC's engineering, production, editing ... yeah, they do it up right 😊
There is something universal about Side 2 of American Beauty even if you are into the GD that much. They put out two wonderful albums in 1970.
~a very special tune. Its' the kind of thing you never forget. You won't hear it in commercial advertisement. It's not a ` jingle '. ~or ` background ' in a beer or truck ad. But Shakespeare would understand it. ~and a few others...
We still love you here in Ireland ...
AJ and Molly melt my heart. x
AJ is a gift from God to all of us. I absolutely love the lyric "Let it be known there is a fountain that was not made by the hands of men." May we all drink from it.
The Grateful Dead

As a 45+ year fan of The Grateful Dead, this is a great cover. Well done young lady, well done...

Torch bearers for music that will go down in history as the best. Lovely!
outstanding
I honestly believe that Heaven is a pleasant spring afternoon sitting under a shade tree playing music like this.
I sure hope so
Perfect timing and harmony
Friend, I have been studying the Bible for a long time, This is nice but not even close to what heaven will be like. Heaven is a place who have submitted to the will of God while on earth (Matt. 7:21) and a place where the saved will be in the presence of God and worship Him. (Rev. 4:10)
Unbelievably pitch perfect lead singer! Awesome!
As you listen to the lullaby think what he added! & say God's Speed to the poet **Robert Hunter**.
Thanks for all the words, Bob! The lyrics to the soundtrack of my & so many others lives
The words you wrote are more poignant than any others and still ring true today.
great cover
Love it Love it Love it, Jerry is smiling

Beautiful Beautiful
Great job on this rendition of Jerry’s masterpiece! My uncle ,which went on to have a successful music career!
Moved to California in the 60s and met Jerry Garcia , the two became life long friends !
They lived under a bridge, because at the time neither one of them had any money or contacts, that would start their journey !
My uncles career brought him back to the east !
Jerry’s kept him mostly west coast early on !
Loved hearing my uncle, tell me about their encounters!
yeah, my favorite Dead toon.
One of my favorite songs, and a beautiful version....
they are aweesome
This is nation-wide quality! This young girl supported by this band, it reminds me of my long lost hometown. If your cup runeth over. But faith cannot turn the tide of incoming doubt.

Touching. Just wonderful.
Great rendition of that classic Jerry Garcia standby.
The song is just beautiful, bu the girl is even more beautiful!!! young lady you are perfect!!
How beautiful, all...
One of the grwatest melodies and song ever written...there is no way to not enjoy this song
Playing for change group did an extremely good rendition with truly great musicians
I find myself repeating myself over and over every time I listen to a AJ Lee version of any song. Give Robert Hunter credit for the words and Jerry Garcia for the music, but honestly the vocals and delivery of this great song now belongs to AJ Lee and we must never forget the Tuttles. Together they bring musical magic and meaning to a song leaving all who listen with a greater appreciation for the songs they sing and their combined talents. Larry Milby
Thank you Larry.
Larry Noble i been listening to this for many years by Jerry Garcia.i totally agree with Larry on that how Aj lifted upp the song to other level by her style and by her sweet voice. Now I play this song her way on my guitar. Thank you Aj .keep on singin.
I concur
Beautiful voice AJ
Playing my guitar with you in my kitchen now..a Thanksgiving gift to me...how sweet! Amazing to watch your musical journey through the years. All of you all!!!! Molly Too!
Nine years later, AJ is an even better singer. On this great song. Good to hear her and Molly together. I wish that she would have the same success as Molly. I am glad to see Sully, with his beautiful baritone voice, in her present band.
Such a beautiful cover.
My God, what a beautiful voice.

She has it. She has the fire!
My favourite bluegrass singers: AJ Lee and Molly Tuttle! Loved this song!
Robert Houben they also do swing. Beautifully. And just plain mountain music. I would not be surprised to see them morph some more.

Huge fan, Your fan , Benjamin Wozniak
Can't believe I have never heard of these beautiful folk, such great sound, gb
AJ Lee is only 15 here, but her voice had long been showing signs of the greatness to come. Fans should also search CZcams for her solo version of Ripple.
It isn't just me the bassist looks just like greg popovich right? Beautiful job AJ Lee, brings a smile every time I hear this :)
Jason Steinberg he looks more like Donald Sutherland than Coach Pop
What Bruce said. What a gem this song is. Nice to hear it sung by a young pure voice.
What a fantastic group. My fav bluegrass group now. AJ does a beautiful job on this and the harmony is out of this world great. I love this group...Good luck in your music.

Wow. Young lady you have made my life better. It's been a long time since chills shot down my spine upon hearing the first 30 seconds of a song.
AJ Lee & The Tuttles has been a favorite of mine for a long time now...'Ripple' never sounded better....Jerry I'm sure is 'Grateful'....
Peaceful...somehow this made me want to join them, playing some chords and singing harmony, keeping eyes on the audience while listening to AJ.

And A J is a legend already
What a voice, angelic! - super stuff.
Beautiful singing and playing, as always. This and a cup of coffee, what a way to start the morning.
