You'd be surprised Sean, stoneflies that big work great down deep. I'm loving the new bobbin, a lot less squeaking noises. Thank you for all the awesome videos this year! I've learned a ton from you. Happy new year!

Nice stone fly. You did one similar but smaller when I first started watching and you flattened the body under the thorax. That came out looking as good as this. It is very large. I am not sure we have them that big. Spring time the trout will think they hit the lottery. All the best to you Jim, have a safe and Happy New Year. Sean

Amazing. Just amazing how a fly can be tied for a fish to strike. It's perfect.

    Jim,
Happy New Year and Thank You! for your undying commitment to teach fly tying. This pattern looks great and I know it will fish even better. Some people do not realize the size of Stoneflies in their Nymphal stage as they are very large. Video was a great tutorial ....Thank You

    Hi, Jim.
Happy New Year. Many big fishes on your rod. Nice stone fly. Mix the black dubbing with very small part of red dubbing. Only an idea, for example 10:1 black:red dub. I think, that will be more good and effective. Nice job. Thanks.

+Miro Jagger I used the stuff with the red because I was lazy and didn't want to look for the straight black.

Jim...how do you keep the turkey tail from splitting? Evertime I tie it on it will split.

You can try coating it with a light layer of head cement. Also try using different sections of the quill once you trim it from the stem. example the tip is soft and the butt near the stem is coarse. Try trimming the soft part off to get to the middle and also use the head cement, Put a couple of drops on then witth your finger spread it down the length.
