There is a Electric Dance sequence to Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes - Bad Luck (1975) on Soul Train (1971-2006).

I played over 100 weddings over 20 years in the USA and
I have never played Candy by Cameo at a wedding. Not even as a request. And I have never seen anyone do the Electric Slide to Candy.
This must be a UK thing.

Partially true the origins of the folk dance is actually from South Africa and is part of a longer sequence.
Naturally there isn’t any videos of it as the earliest account is 1870 in text format. But I’ve met families from those tribes who have showed me and it’s amazing it goes so far back.

Show the empirical evidence or it just musical revisionism?.

5:48 he says "most people don't know you can copyright a dance" 🤔 Which leads me to believe most dance copyright holders are not the creators of those dances.

The main question, should be When Mr. Silver created the dance. What ORIGINAL record did he create it to., or did he just create a Dance to nothing and it CAN BE USED to whatever song someone plays.

To electric Boogie by bunny wailer and Marcia Griffiths in 1976

@Mongo76 That's the story that I knew too. Never heard of this guy or that it had anything to do with Cameo.

Have you ever wondered why the Candy Dance / Electric Slide doesn’t fit into counts of 8? …even if you’ve been doing this dance naturally since you were a child 🤷🏾‍♂️
It’s because the ‘spin’, or ‘stomp-knee’ or ‘stomp-kick’ is a _reduced version_ of the original “electric-”(stomp-), “slide”(literally slide).
The dance we all know is (almost) two sets of eight:
    *First Eight*
    1-4 _Grapevine(or two steps) Right_
    5-8 _Grapevine(or two steps) Left_
    *Second Eight*
    1-4 _Two steps back(add flavour🌶 or ✨shimmy)_ *
    5-6 _Step-knee, Step-kick …OR ELECTRIC SLIDE_ 🎉😂 **
    _(7-8) fly, land, recover, freestyle_ 💃🏾 ***
    * For the two steps back… imagine a plane taxiing on a runway preparing for takeoff or a feline (cat, lion, tiger, panther) backing up and preparing for a jump pounce. This is the preparation for the amazing electric slide… (or stomp-turn in line-dancing)
** In line-dancing, the step-kick(cowboys n cowgirls) or step-knee(african diaspora) is a TURN(bring the right should from behind to in front, turning anti-clockwise)… the turn replaces the step-slide(which is the electric slide) because when you’re line dancing all together there is no space for everyone to step(on beat 5) and go flying sideways (beats 6,7,8)
*** Beats 7 & 8 are omitted when line dancing because the slide is cut short 😭
However, if you have plenty of space, bring back the SLIDE inna de (in the) electric slide 😄⚡️🛝

So shocking that silver taking credit and royalties in showbiz, just like the episode in the sopranos where Hirsch took credit for black doowop songs.
Is it really racist to say this as they all know it and showbiz people know it too.
Hey you guys made Hollywood so props for all the benefits your people are making 120 years later still. Just don't blackbqll people for stating the obvious right?
