My favourite thing about Ibanez is how they stand by their cheaper models. Gibson have Epiphone, Fender have Squier, Ibanez have Ibanez Gio, they're confident enough in the product to put their name on the headstock.
This 100 x! I started off with a cheap Synsonics guitar with a built in amp. As a youth, when I upgraded I went for Ibanez because of my love of KoRn. I always noticed that. Branding is huge and if you want a strat, the Fender name is a big part of that. The Squire branding just bugs me

Hoshino was already importing Salvador Ibañez guitars in the 1930s, but it was a performance by Andres Segovia in Japan that really kicked off a huge demand for Spanish guitars. Salvador couldn't meet the demand so Hoshino had their own made under the name Ibañez Salvador. They eventually dropped the "Salvador" and just called their company "Ibanez"
I fell in love with Ibanez guitars back in the early 90s. I just love the "feel", quality and comfort. My wife also loves Ibanez. She's a bass player and her favorite is the btb845

RG is my favourite! I love how thin and comfortable the S model is, but the RG sounds amazing. I also really dig the PIA, can't wait to put my hands on one of those
The reason seven string guitars have a low B (which is still repeating the same string intervals btw) is because a high A string breaks very easily at tension. As I recall, George Van Eps had the same problem in the late 1930's when he was adapting the idea of a 7 string guitar (which goes back to the 16th and 17th centuries) to jazz. I find that widening the range of the guitar lower towards bass makes a lot of sense. With a seven string you are sort of playing a six string guitar and a baritone guitar at the same time. In terms of the seven string guitars adoption into metal it makes sense as well; metal bands have been downtuning since Black Sabbath.
Back in the late '80s I worked at a small music store in Southern California. I bought a brand-new 1986 Ibanez Pro Line PL1770 (made in Japan). It was an awesome guitar. I had it for 20 years. The Pro Line Series came just before the Radius, Saber, and Jem. Today, I have an Ibanez RG350.

In 1977 Kiss Alive 2 came out and when you opened it up and saw the interior live shot, we saw Paul Stanley playing the most radical guitar ever made to that point. The PS10 Iceman. I bought my first ever guitar , a 1978 ps10 a couple years later. Still have it today. Great guitar
I have played Ibanez guitars for more than 30 years. They make great guitars. Period. I had a RG, back the 90s, now I have 2 Ibanez semi hollow body guitars, 335 style, super good guitars.
My first guitar was a Korean Ibanez EX-120. Just recently found one just like that guitar. My favorite Ibanez is the RGA42FM. Just super comfortable to play and can tackle any genre you throw at it.
Hey Dagan, good work, Geordie to Geordie, just to add that they first arrived in the UK in the 70s via distributor CS Summerfield of Gateshead, only a short walk over the bridge from PMT's Newcastle shop and were first sold I believe only at Jeavons Music (long gone) on Newcastle's Percy Street 🙂 They also sold them as CSL guitars. My favorite ibanez guitar is my 30 fret RG550XH. Honestly the highest frets aren't the most usable, but its got a ton of access to play up to the 24th fret more comfortably than any other guitar I've tried. Love Ibanez, I still really want a Universe uv777p just for the disappearing pyramid inlays

My first electric solid body guitar was a jewel blue Ibanez RG170, back in the mid 90's. I still have it, though It's been completely overhauled and hotrodded. I love that thing. I have many other guitars now, but to this day, it's still the one that I pick up and play the most. I like that they've recently started making a "softer" headstock for a more traditional look.
I have a 1987 Roadstar II guitar. It's more curved shaped, more like a strat, not pointy like the RG. In an interview, Steve Vai stated that the high A string they added on the Universe was breaking all the time because of the high tension so they abandoned it and went for a low B. Also, the pointy horns came up because Steve has big hands and couldn't play the high notes because it was little space between the lower horn and the neck, so he carved out some wood from the inside of the cutaway to make room for his left hand.
Vai turned me on to Ibanez back in the late 80's. I have played them almost exclusively both guitar (electric and acoustic) and bass. I love my 7 strings!
Firstly, I think your presentations are brilliant. Informative, entertaining and combine great info with an easy going light hearted style. Yup, as the previous comment indicates, RG is Roadstar. I did a brief Ibanez history in a CZcams video (Ibanez RG 350 DX, Indonesia, guitar review) when I was doing a demo of my RG which ended up being owned by Mr Carruthers from Shaft of Steel which can be seen on his FB page. I have an old black sa260 (2000, Japan) It was in a warehouse until 2017 and was never used. I have rg550dx-rr too. I love them! Ibanez guitars are fantastics.

Ibanez EDA, EDB, EDC basses in late 90s used a synthetic material called Luthite for the bodies. Ibanez also designed the GR-707 Synth Guitar for Roland's GR-700 guitar synthesizer
I've owned and played a good number of Ibanezes (Ibanii?) over the years, from mid-market import models to MIJ/artist guitars (Jem 777, Meshuggah M8, RG550), and my favorite to this day is my current FujiGen-built RG90 Prestige. The usual Ibanez playability with fit-and-finish above any others I've had, even the other Prestiges I've owned. It sets up so sublimely. After that, I've got a lot of love for my main workhorse RG9 that I've thrown a few upgrades at (Lundgren pickups, new electronics, Gotoh locking tuners), and a number of years back an RGA8 (I loved that contoured top, wish all RGs were RGAs TBH), that I also did pickup swaps on, was my main axe for quite some time. You can get some great stuff these days in the $1000 - $1200 range, it's a great time to be a guitar player.
The Ibanez brand name dates back to 1929 when Hoshino Gakki began importing Salvador Ibáñez é Hijos guitars from Spain. In 1933 The Salvador Ibáñez é Hijos cy. was bought by Telesforo Julve and incorporated in his enterprise. Hoshino Gakki started making Spanish acoustic guitars from 1935, at first using the "Ibanez Salvador" name, and then later using the "Ibanez" brand name .
Already had an AM93 Artcore which is amazing and just bought an AZ. It was either the Strat pro II or the AZ and although I love the Strat sound, I think the AZ is more "the full package" and goes beyond what Fender offers.
They also make a great entry 3/4 guitar. The Gio mikro, is a great playing guitar. Many affordable 3/4 scale guitars aren't very inspiring, but the mikro is great.
My first guitar which I still have is an RG321. I bought it when I was 19 and still have it at 32. Out of my three guitars it’s my go to guitar I typically keep it in drop c or C sharp
"RG" stands for "Roadstar Guitar", not Roadster. The Roadster models were basses, that then became Roadstar basses, before being supplanted by the Roadgear, then SoundGear lines, which ultimately is now just called an SR.

I didnt know this until the other day, having an RG for several years. Then today discovered that S stands for Saber! Stop with the letters and get with the catchy names that make people foolishly part with their money! Oh and more cool green patterns !
@@TheCulnes Ibanez had to change the name of the Saber, because Ernie Ball/Music Man already had a line with the same name (I think theirs were basses). Fender had to change the name of the Broadcaster to Telecaster because a drum company had a line with that name, I think it was Ludwig. I do agree with you on using catchy names. I love the falchion, halberd, glaive, & xiphos names (they are all medieval weapons).
First time I played an Ibanez, I was hooked. I own two RG's (1993 RG470 and RG Iron Series Baritone) and I love them. I might get an S if I can find a used one at a fair price.
Fave Ibanez guitars are the original Roadstar from the 80s, the Rootbeer JEM with the big-ass handle and the 540 with the weird body shape that Alex Skolnick flexed back in the day
Dagan, I was under the impression that RG meant "Rockstar Guitar", as Ibanez had such a line that, like you said, was discontinued. If I'm wrong, sorry. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath wanted and got 24-fret guitars, but I believe that he had to purchase a guitar company before he could get anyone to make such guitars for him; everyone else said (erroneously, of course) that it was impossible. My favorite Ibanez guitars are (unsurprisingly) the ones I actually own: A 1991 EX370 with 22 frets, a full-size neck heel block and an H-S-H pickup set, and a 2001 RG220B with 24(!) frets, their AANJ (All-Access Neck Joint) neck joint, and an H-H pickup set. The runner up would be one I never got, though I tried. That was a 70s Musician Series MC500. If memory serves, this was a beautiful neck-through guitar with 24 frets, 2 humbuckers with switches that provided full-humbucker, out-of-phase humbucker and coil-split tones, and it looked KILLER with the maple through neck with dark-stained body wings. Awesome! The problem was that I lived in Germany at the time that these were out, and although I could have gotten one of the lesser Musician Series guitars there, NO ONE was able to get the axe I wanted, and I wasn't settling; I wanted ONLY the full, fat MC500 or nothing! You already know how THAT turned out!😡 Thanks for this video! I really like this brand of guitar. It's killer. Maybe one day Ican actually afford one MADE IN JAPAN!😎❤️️🎸‼️
Wow this is cool. My first and only ibanez is a Roadstar II or something like that from the 80s (this is what i was told). I have to go pick it up from the shop. I can't remember the pickup configuration i just know it definitely has a covered humbucker. So i was definitely interested in these Ibanez facts. I really dig the look of the RGs, and also some of their basses.

My first guitar was a 70's Lawsuit SG which I swapped a Sega mega drive to get back in the mid 80's, had many big-name guitars since and they've all fallen by the wayside. Still got the SG though. And just ordered a new sunburst Iceman. There's just something about them, like they're not show ponies, they just have a very laid back yet deep quality
In the 90s all my favorite bands played sdgr basses. I got my first brand new in 1999 it’s an sr405 all maple body. Great tone I played it in jazz band and jazz choir in high school for lots of gigs and competitions. Took it on tour with my metal band many times. The case has to many flight tags on it the only bass I’ve ever had new (thanks mom I love and miss you) it still looks great and plays/sounds awesome although is has a replacement neck and volume pot the truss rod nut stripped and pot died. Not bad for a daily driver for over 20 years!
I have a while Strat Mann guitar, which only recently I found out was an Ibanez, built in 1974. The hardware is all Fender, especially the steel tremolo block. Some sort of Canadian copyright issue.
I just bought my first Ibanez, an S1070PBZ I’m Frost White, and I can’t wait for it to come in the mail! But I have to say, anything in the S series, with the super thin bodies and wizard necks-mmm, girl, let me tell ya!
I have several Ibanez guitars. My all time favorite is SF470, made from 1993-94. There was a 1992 470S. All of these are S models with a hard tail, and a neck scale of 24.75". These play great. I'm not aware of any other S's or RG's that were made with that scale. The SF470 is a unique rocker. I have added push pull pot to mine for additional coil splitting options. Love it.
Without a doubt, my all time favourite Ibanez is the JS10th Chromeboy. I practically drool every time I see it! I do have a JS1CR but it's not the same... the lines are different, and it sounds different with the Sustainiac instead of the PAF Pro. My wee nugget of information is that the Satriani line was originally based on the Saber series, and is shaped like an aerofoil, thinner at the top and thicker at the bottom, to pull it in towards the body.
Don’t forget the I’ll-fated Starfield guitars that were a throw off company of the Ibanez! They’re also good instruments but hard to find. I like the Artcore series very much as well as the late 80s Talmans!
I got my first Ibanez about 6 months ago and it's an RG 550 from the year 2000 and it's black with a chrome pick guard and I have to say this guitar is absolutely stunning, it work of art, best guitar I have ever laid my hands on, and the sound is unbelievable for passive pickups I wouldn't even think it was possible if I hadn't heard it myself. The Wizard neck is unmatched for speed and that Edge Tremolo is also unmatched in craftsmanship and never goes out of tune no matter how hard you wail on it. Honestly I can't say enough about the Ibanez RG 550 series best damn guitars on the planet.
You can see Dave Murray and Adrian Smith playing Ibanez Destroyers live in 1982, The Prisoner. Edward played the Destroyer unmodified for the VH1 album, you can see some pictures of him tracking Jamie's Crying in the studio with it (1977). He never recorded anything else with it after destroying in in 1978.
There are pictures of Dave Murry of Iron Maiden playing a Humbucker, Single Coil Humbucker Strat in 1982. I have a Jem VBK777 from 1989. It is the only guitar I have every needed (though my brother bought me a Harley Benton Pro Fusion 2 last year) the Jem has been refretted six times, and is so played in, tape doesn't adhere to the neck..so smooth is it. These guitars are just extraordinary. You still feel like you are playing a guitar from the future. The pickups sound terrific. It is worth quite a bit of money now.
True but Andy Scott of The Sweet was playing HSH during the 1970's. I expect many players modded or had custom guitars with the HSH set-up before Vai. Steve Vai is simply credited with the first production HSH model
I always loved the Ibanez RG series. They play very nicely. I always thought the RG stood for Rock Guitar, so I did learn something. lol I have a Yamaha RGX1212S made in 1990 that is a beautiful guitar to play. A shredders dream, as everyone that plays her comments on how smooth & fast she is. I just bought my 1st Ibanez a couple of hours ago... a cheap 7-String. An R7221QA, which is basically a GIO 7-String, yeah? Could you please do a video review of the R7221QA for us? Let us all know your thoughts on their budget 7-String? Great offering. I'm old ;) so remember Guitar Player magazine ads from the early '70s . They offered a 'band' which played LP stds and Jrs. I'm like 15 and want one. Recall the first EVH interview i read where he said anything that didn't have a trem was probably The Destroyer (You Really Got Me the main one). '81 i move, neighbor plays. Rocket Roll Sr, '58 style V. He finds one for $300. Played but great . Gigged a bit and sold it to my band mate. Years go by, he restores it 'gets the band together' and gives it back to me. insane. So, i have the RR Sr and a, AS 73 335 type. I LOVE them. ha, shred days,,,,dayglo Racer X epi coronet might be cool for i minute or two ;)
Last year i bought the Ibanez JivaJr. Not so much because i am a great fan of Nita Strauss but it wat the only HsH in this price range. This guitar from the S series is a fantastic guitar. very vers and thin. She is a light weight and became my main guitar.
Nothing more than tradition. Guitarists (in the main) resist change. Some Strats have the Treble side corner of the heel 'chamfered' and a curved neckplate fitted (for a bit more comfort) but that's as adventurous as Fender has got so far..
I'm a owner of two Ibanez guitars a S 1625 from 2003 and an RG 1527 7 strings from 2008. 🤟🏽 However, according to an article from Forbes, it seems the Music Man JP6 is now the second top selling signature model after the Les Paul, overlapping the JEM.

I bought an Ibanez SG in 1978. The headstock logo was a bit obscure to read and I was mispronouncing it for several years. Plugged in to my Super Reverb I didn't care what the name was - 'twas brutal

I've fallen in love with it when I played the FGM model (Frank Gambale signature)
I've had my RG550 since 1991, and I love it! But the Ibanez I always loved was the destroyer, so much so that I'm having one made for me!

My first guitar was an Ibanez GAX 70. I still have it, but it’s had a pickup makeover over the past 20 years.
Dave Murry 7 Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) both played Destroyer's as well. I have a '79 ST-200 first model after the lawsuit years and it's awesome!!
My first electric solid body guitar was a jewel blue Ibanez RG170, back in the mid 90's. I still have it, though It's been completely overhauled and hotrodded. I love that thing. I have many other guitars now, but to this day, it's still the one that I pick up and play the most.
I like that they've recently started making a "softer" headstock for a more traditional look.
I have a 1987 Roadstar II guitar. It's more curved shaped, more like a strat, not pointy like the RG. In an interview, Steve Vai stated that the high A string they added on the Universe was breaking all the time because of the high tension so they abandoned it and went for a low B. Also, the pointy horns came up because Steve has big hands and couldn't play the high notes because it was little space between the lower horn and the neck, so he carved out some wood from the inside of the cutaway to make room for his left hand.
Vai turned me on to Ibanez back in the late 80's. I have played them almost exclusively both guitar (electric and acoustic) and bass. I love my 7 strings!

Firstly, I think your presentations are brilliant. Informative, entertaining and combine great info with an easy going light hearted style. Yup, as the previous comment indicates, RG is Roadstar. I did a brief Ibanez history in a CZcams video (Ibanez RG 350 DX, Indonesia, guitar review) when I was doing a demo of my RG which ended up being owned by Mr Carruthers from Shaft of Steel which can be seen on his FB page. Keep up the great work :-)
I have an old black sa260 (2000, Japan) It was in a warehouse until 2017 and was never used. I have rg550dx-rr too. I love them! Ibanez guitars are fantastics.

Ibanez EDA, EDB, EDC basses in late 90s used a synthetic material called Luthite for the bodies.
Ibanez also designed the GR-707 Synth Guitar for Roland's GR-700 guitar synthesizer
My first Idanez was a AF55 Hollowbody Acoustic, it was technically my first official acoustic guitar because I had an off-brand student guitar
I've owned and played a good number of Ibanezes (Ibanii?) over the years, from mid-market import models to MIJ/artist guitars (Jem 777, Meshuggah M8, RG550), and my favorite to this day is my current FujiGen-built RG90 Prestige. The usual Ibanez playability with fit-and-finish above any others I've had, even the other Prestiges I've owned. It sets up so sublimely. After that, I've got a lot of love for my main workhorse RG9 that I've thrown a few upgrades at (Lundgren pickups, new electronics, Gotoh locking tuners), and a number of years back an RGA8 (I loved that contoured top, wish all RGs were RGAs TBH), that I also did pickup swaps on, was my main axe for quite some time. You can get some great stuff these days in the $1000 - $1200 range, it's a great time to be a guitar player.
The Ibanez brand name dates back to 1929 when Hoshino Gakki began importing Salvador Ibáñez é Hijos guitars from Spain. In 1933 The Salvador Ibáñez é Hijos cy. was bought by Telesforo Julve and incorporated in his enterprise. Hoshino Gakki started making Spanish acoustic guitars from 1935, at first using the "Ibanez Salvador" name, and then later using the "Ibanez" brand name .
Already had an AM93 Artcore which is amazing and just bought an AZ. It was either the Strat pro II or the AZ and although I love the Strat sound, I think the AZ is more "the full package" and goes beyond what Fender offers.
They also make a great entry 3/4 guitar. The Gio mikro, is a great playing guitar. Many affordable 3/4 scale guitars aren't very inspiring, but the mikro is great.
My grandson has had both the mikro bass and guitar since he was 18 months. He will be 3 soon. Also has a half size Ludwig drum kit!
My first guitar which I still have is an RG321. I bought it when I was 19 and still have it at 32. Out of my three guitars it’s my go to guitar I typically keep it in drop c or C sharp

"RG" stands for "Roadstar Guitar", not Roadster. The Roadster models were basses, that then became Roadstar basses, before being supplanted by the Roadgear, then SoundGear lines, which ultimately is now just called an SR.

I've got about me, among Maton's Fender's custom stuff, several Ibanez mongrel mixtures of various makeup - DiMarzio's on one EMG81/85's on another and RG's SA's & odds & sods Gio's in 2's & 3's about the joint festooning me studio like a mad woman's sh*t - all over the joint! Underrated well perfoming playable comfortable & versatile guitars Ibanez are fair dinkum gospel this... they aren't the best by no means the worst, some Ibanez sound feel & play just beautifully - some don't some are total dumpsterfiretrainwreckChernobylmeltdowns! yuk!

I didnt know this until the other day, having an RG for several years. Then today discovered that S stands for Saber! Stop with the letters and get with the catchy names that make people foolishly part with their money! Oh and more cool green patterns !
@@TheCulnes Ibanez had to change the name of the Saber, because Ernie Ball/Music Man already had a line with the same name (I think theirs were basses). Fender had to change the name of the Broadcaster to Telecaster because a drum company had a line with that name, I think it was Ludwig.
I do agree with you on using catchy names. I love the falchion, halberd, glaive, & xiphos names (they are all medieval weapons).
First time I played an Ibanez, I was hooked. I own two RG's (1993 RG470 and RG Iron Series Baritone) and I love them. I might get an S if I can find a used one at a fair price.
Fave Ibanez guitars are the original Roadstar from the 80s, the Rootbeer JEM with the big-ass handle and the 540 with the weird body shape that Alex Skolnick flexed back in the day
Dagan, I was under the impression that RG meant "Rockstar Guitar", as Ibanez had such a line that, like you said, was discontinued. If I'm wrong, sorry. Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath wanted and got 24-fret guitars, but I believe that he had to purchase a guitar company before he could get anyone to make such guitars for him; everyone else said (erroneously, of course) that it was impossible. My favorite Ibanez guitars are (unsurprisingly) the ones I actually own: A 1991 EX370 with 22 frets, a full-size neck heel block and an H-S-H pickup set, and a 2001 RG220B with 24(!) frets, their AANJ (All-Access Neck Joint) neck joint, and an H-H pickup set. The runner up would be one I never got, though I tried. That was a 70s Musician Series MC500. If memory serves, this was a beautiful neck-through guitar with 24 frets, 2 humbuckers with switches that provided full-humbucker, out-of-phase humbucker and coil-split tones, and it looked KILLER with the maple through neck with dark-stained body wings. Awesome! The problem was that I lived in Germany at the time that these were out, and although I could have gotten one of the lesser Musician Series guitars there, NO ONE was able to get the axe I wanted, and I wasn't settling; I wanted ONLY the full, fat MC500 or nothing! You already know how THAT turned out!😡

Wow this is cool. My first and only ibanez is a Roadstar II or something like that from the 80s (this is what i was told). I have to go pick it up from the shop. I can't remember the pickup configuration i just know it definitely has a covered humbucker. So i was definitely interested in these Ibanez facts. I really dig the look of the RGs, and also some of their basses.
Vai and satch inspired me to go with Ibanez,, and there Awesome guitars, must of got 12 or 13 of them over a few years,,, RJB.

Nice video and I agree and love Ibanez !! my favourite Ibanez guitar is - you guessed it - the one I own - not sure the model - is a beauty and was only $400 Canadian!! Just recently begun to realize how great quality it is. I am sure will buy another soon - maybe a Strat style ! My first guitar was a 70's Lawsuit SG which I swapped a Sega mega drive to get back in the mid 80's, had many big-name guitars since and they've all fallen by the wayside. Still got the SG though. And just ordered a new sunburst Iceman. There's just something about them, like they're not show ponies, they just have a very laid back yet deep quality

In the 90s all my favorite bands played sdgr basses. I got my first brand new in 1999 it’s an sr405 all maple body. Great tone I played it in jazz band and jazz choir in high school for lots of gigs and competitions. Took it on tour with my metal band many times. The case has to many flight tags on it the only bass I’ve ever had new (thanks mom I love and miss you) it still looks great and plays/sounds awesome although is has a replacement neck and volume pot the truss rod nut stripped and pot died. Not bad for a daily driver for over 20 years!

I have a while Strat Mann guitar, which only recently I found out was an Ibanez, built in 1974. The hardware is all Fender, especially the steel tremolo block. Some sort of Canadian copyright issue.
Adrian Smith and Dave Murray used Destroyers in the early 80's as well!

I just bought my first Ibanez, an S1070PBZ I’m Frost White, and I can’t wait for it to come in the mail!
But I have to say, anything in the S series, with the super thin bodies and wizard necks-mmm, girl, let me tell ya!
I have several Ibanez guitars. My all time favorite is SF470, made from 1993-94. There was a 1992 470S. All of these are S models with a hard tail, and a neck scale of 24.75". These play great. I'm not aware of any other S's or RG's that were made with that scale. The SF470 is a unique rocker. I have added push pull pot to mine for additional coil splitting options. Love it.
Without a doubt, my all time favourite Ibanez is the JS10th Chromeboy. I practically drool every time I see it! I do have a JS1CR but it's not the same... the lines are different, and it sounds different with the Sustainiac instead of the PAF Pro. My wee nugget of information is that the Satriani line was originally based on the Saber series, and is shaped like an aerofoil, thinner at the top and thicker at the bottom, to pull it in towards the body.
Great video. You didn't mention the EX series from the early 90's. The final year they have 24 frets. Absolute Ibanez.
I like SR basses enough to have three: two 300Es and a 600E. It all started with wanting a bass with the jack on the front instead of underneath.
Don’t forget the I’ll-fated Starfield guitars that were a throw off company of the Ibanez! They’re also good instruments but hard to find. I like the Artcore series very much as well as the late 80s Talmans!

I got my first Ibanez about 6 months ago and it's an RG 550 from the year 2000 and it's black with a chrome pick guard and I have to say this guitar is absolutely stunning, it work of art, best guitar I have ever laid my hands on, and the sound is unbelievable for passive pickups I wouldn't even think it was possible if I hadn't heard it myself. The Wizard neck is unmatched for speed and that Edge Tremolo is also unmatched in craftsmanship and never goes out of tune no matter how hard you wail on it. Honestly I can't say enough about the Ibanez RG 550 series best damn guitars on the planet.
You can see Dave Murray and Adrian Smith playing Ibanez Destroyers live in 1982, The Prisoner. Edward played the Destroyer unmodified for the VH1 album, you can see some pictures of him tracking Jamie's Crying in the studio with it (1977). He never recorded anything else with it after destroying in in 1978.

My Ibanez SR500 bass is the bomb. It’s quite a shock to have the sound guy compliment me on having a nice sound.
There are pictures of Dave Murry of Iron Maiden playing a Humbucker, Single Coil Humbucker Strat in 1982.
I have a Jem VBK777 from 1989. It is the only guitar I have every needed (though my brother bought me a Harley Benton Pro Fusion 2 last year) the Jem has been refretted six times, and is so played in, tape doesn't adhere to the neck..so smooth is it.
These guitars are just extraordinary.
You still feel like you are playing a guitar from the future.
The pickups sound terrific.

True but Andy Scott of The Sweet was playing HSH during the 1970's. I expect many players modded or had custom guitars with the HSH set-up before Vai. Steve Vai is simply credited with the first production HSH model

I'm old ;) so remember Guitar Player magazine ads from the early '70s . They offered a 'band' which played LP stds and Jrs. I'm like 15 and want one. Recall the first EVH interview i read where he said anything that didn't have a trem was probably The Destroyer (You Really Got Me the main one).
'81 i move, neighbor plays. Rocket Roll Sr, '58 style V.
He finds one for $300. Played but great . Gigged a bit and sold it to my band mate.
Years go by, he restores it 'gets the band together' and gives it back to me. insane.
So, i have the RR Sr and a, AS 73 335 type. I LOVE them.

Last year i bought the Ibanez JivaJr. Not so much because i am a great fan of Nita Strauss but it wat the only HsH in this price range. This guitar from the S series is a fantastic guitar. very vers and thin. She is a light weight and became my main guitar.
the rounded all access neck joint AANJ was a cool innovation too. I still have no idea why strats have a block heel.
Nothing more than tradition. Guitarists (in the main) resist change. Some Strats have the Treble side corner of the heel 'chamfered' and a curved neckplate fitted (for a bit more comfort) but that's as adventurous as Fender has got so far..
I'm a owner of two Ibanez guitars a S 1625 from 2003 and an RG 1527 7 strings from 2008. 🤟🏽
However, according to an article from Forbes, it seems the Music Man JP6 is now the second top selling signature model after the Les Paul, overlapping the JEM.
Bought my 89 in 90ish. Bright carrot orange, right as the Nirvana craze was hitting. I SCORED it from Nadines in Hollywood. My go to still today.
