  • tuning my Bantam. Raised the exhaust port 9mm (std Ariel Arrow is 35mm deck to top of the exhaust port) to the RG500 26mm. Big transfers and machined a rear boost port. A bit of jetting to do as she feels a bit rich, but hey ho, we're moving forward 😀 😉

    That's insane, sounds gorgeous, I want one!!! My first ever bike was a bantam, now 52 bikes later a 2015 yamaha SR400.

    calling that a Bantam is stretching it a bit, the seat and tank are off a Bantam and that's about it, it is like me calling my Nissan a Ferrari because it has got a prancing horse sticker on the window, them boost ports make a big difference, the engine smooths out a lot, I used to cut them so I had 360dgs induction and fit a reed from an RD, the boost port would allow fuel in until the exhaust port opened, piston ported 2T engines,

      Thanks for your nice comment but you missed out on the headlamp also is Bantam. I nearly forgot to mention the full frame loop is Bantam as is the rear subframe. Never let the truth get in the way of a good Story. 😅😊

      @@Roy2cycle Can't be the BSA subframe, 'cos you've got a wider tyre and disc brakes. Whatever, the Bantam was a camel, so this bike will handle like a shopping trolley.

    The aircooled cylinders fitted to this 1984 RG500 bottom end, came from the 1960 Ariel Arrow 250 twin motorcycle so having no state of tune what so ever, as you implied. So, fitting these cylinders to the RG500 bottom end I'm losing about 50bhp or more. But then i gain ground back. by fitting the engine into a Bsa Bantam frame with other mods . Turning this into something totally Bonkers, from whichever side of the fence you are on. 😂

    Remember in the 60s there were a lot of Bantams racing, if my memory serves me right they had their own series? I remember also seeing some Ariel Arrows mixing it with big guns at Scarborough Olivers Mount

    9mm raise in exhaust port....it must have been in a very low state of tune if you can go up 9mm.

    Hi Roy, lovely bit of workmanship. in the sixties I had a mate with a bantam and another with a Golden Arrow, I never ever thought the two could be brought together as one, amazing.
    Thinking about the Arrow do you still get the lovely wisp of blue smoke when accelerating, a trademark of all Arrows. I love 2 strokes, both the sound and smell.

      Hi. I have built a couple of four cylinder Bantams and one Bantam Arrow. This one I built almost ten years ago. If you Google 'Rg500 Bsa Bantam ', you will see the start and progress of a Bonkers idea of building a four cylinder aircooled Bantam. Enjoy.

      hi tiger, i'm going to share an important fact now. because you said you like the smell and because two stroke engines expel up to 50% of unburnt fuel, back in the day "casterol R" oil was expensive and because it was expensive for every oil change, people just put a dash of casterol R oil in the tank , nice smell. what most people dont know is that Casterol oil took its name from caster oil, a vegitable oil that you can buy in boots and holland and barret amongst other places. a little drop in the tank will take you back to brands hatch !

      Hi Dave, that's exactly what we used to do, a few drops in the tank= lovely smell, my Villiers 2T didn't smoke too much but a couple of my mates had Ariel Arrows and all you had to do was follow the wispy blue smoky trail if you lost sight of them, ah, simple pleasures, at sixteen in the 60's life seemed so easy back then, mind you never seemed to have any money, I guess nothing changes still got no money! Coming out of Brands Hatch was terrifying, everybody seemed to be riding as if they were on the track, everyone hyped up after watching their hero's racing.@@davecass9486

    • @Roy2cycle
      @Roy2cycle  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Hi. The 2 stroke oil tank is made from a cut and shut Ariel Arrow primary chain cover, complete with points and cam. So adding a little more Ariel Arrow than just the cylinders and heads. If the engine was not running you would relive that question in another way. (How does that work ?) Cheers 🍻
