Hero of mine even tho I’m after his reign!! My dad was already a fan of Joe’s especially as an African American wrestler when Joe was a Cadet and my dad was about 28 and coaching the Oregon Cadet National Team. One of the more decent kids who went on to be an All American at Brown University was in the QTR’s and drew Joe without knowing him leading him to ask my dad “if this kid any good?” My dad knowin damn well who it was said “nah just go stay in good position”. He came off of the mat and said “Bob, that guy wasn’t just good he was REALLY good, huh.” He said “yup, one of the best I’ve ever seen at that age. You’ll be watching him in the NCAA Finals in a couple of years.”
I remember wrestling with them at Carmel high school every Saturday during the wrestling season. I wrestled Joe every Saturday for four years (89-93) and never got a clear take down. He was a phenomenal wrestler, him, Steve (RIP) and TJ. Steve was a great and most creative wrestler I’ve ever seen at the time. I am so proud of you Bro. Joe, much blessings to you. Hope to see you on the sidelines at a D1 program somewhere soon. I’m praying that happens for you! 🙏🏾
The Williams brothers are abolute beasts. TJ only wrestled three seasons at Iowa(if I'm not mistaken) and during that time we went 99-1. I believe Joe Williams could have been a four-timer if he took a redshirt year, but he still had a phenomenal career. Unfortunately, we never got to see Steve wrestle in d1, he was an absolute animal on the mat, some even say he was the best of the brothers, he would've definitely won multiple titles if he also wrestled at Iowa. RIP Steve. Anyways, it's awesome to see this video. Thank you, for posting.
This guy was special. The best HS wrestler I have ever seen.

The most humble, kindest gentleman always putting his Team first and giving all credit to his coaches and teammates.

Congratulations My Brother!🏆👑
I use to practice at Mt. Carmel with them as well. I went to Morgan Park and I got beat up every practice.
What a fantastic wrestler and class act….loved watching his brother TJ wrestle as well…..well deserved honor, congrats Joe Williams!
I loved his matches with great opponent Joe Heskett. It was always tense and good and Williams would beat him
