- The Catcher in the Rye provides one of the most intimate glimpses into one of America's most reclusive authors, J. D. Salinger. It has been universally recognized as the handbook for angsty teenagers but it is so much more than 200 pages of a whiny 16 year old. The novel is a deeper reflection of Salinger’s own youth, his complicated relationship with growing up and the generational trauma affected by World War II. Undeniably autobiographical, Salinger drew on his personal experiences fighting in the war and his New York upbringing to pen the character of Holden Caulfield. He created a character that shows the comfort in intergenerational connections and the teenage identity that is shared with all of us. No-one should watch this video before reading the book,
It's perfect after reading the whole at least once.
I agree
Nope! Don't ever read it!
J D Salinger isn't dead. He faked his death and opened a bike store specialising in tandems . He was then taken to Hollywoo where he had a hugely successful, if short lived, TV quiz called "Hollywoo stars and celebrities, what do they know? Do they know things? Let's find out!"
I was just relieved when Phoebe didn't fall off the carousel and die as I thought it was bound to have a bad ending.
I read it once a year.
🙌🙌🙌
as you should
That's 314,526,535 times too many for me!
You must be a masochist.
I didn't give the book a fair chance in highschool, time to give it a try.
Don’t! If you disliked it, you were right to.
@@jeffreygao3956 im gonna try it because I didn’t even read it in high school, I cheated
@@MonkeyHatable Don’t! Read some chicken book instead! Hit some hole in ones. Watch chickens eat grain! Anything but Catcher in the Rye!
If you're older and have experienced some life, there is a point in the book where you'll cry. That had never ever happened to me before in a book.
@@thebossman60 If you cry at paint drying.
Ya están en la quiebra
Catcher in the Rye stinks!
I've tried several times to get through it....about the halfway point I give up, I just find it dull.
GOOD FOR YOU!

THANKS !!!
@@dashippo Any day.
How strange. That’s definitely a you issue. And kind of sad.
@@Bigobe244 What ARRRRYA saying?!
Who did this review
I don’t understand what the problem with this book is. I see nothing wrong with it
I see EVERYTHING wrong with it!
It's a struggle which holden is constantly suffering from..like a struggle with his age or loneliness and so on..read the novel and go through the "spark notes" or "litchart" that will assist you to what is actually hidden in the book..
@@banoqra7828 Better yet, just don't.
Actual good literature(eg. The Dinosaur Lords, Kilala Princess, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind manga)=chocolate. Catcher in the Rye=poop.
@@thisguyhere1 Yes very much so!
Well the fckr that killed John Lennon had it on him when they arrested him..
She’s reading it like AI
Nah, Heracles sounds epic!
I want to know this woman
I just want to call her out on such terrible taste in books.
@@jeffreygao3956The way you’re reacting on every comment here is really pathetic. I see that you even came back at different months to make more comments. Did Salinger personally wrong you at some point in your life?? Lol. I’m not saying the book is the greatest thing ever written but it’s far from as bad as you’re making it out to be
I like what you're doing with your eyebrows.
I read the first chapter once, and decided I couldn't spend the rest of the time with the character. I found him to be a narcissistic basket case. I think I was probably 13 or 14 at the time.
bill gates read it at 13
I couldn’t care less for the views of vapid businesspeople.
@@jeffreygao3956 exactly
@@jeffreygao3956 phonies and all as I like to call them
💩
F
what happen to your eye brow?
I didn’t notice anything wrong with her eyebrow. I can tell from your comment that You’re either a girl who’s jealous that she’s prettier than you or a guy thats frustrated because you will never get a girl this pretty.
Your right eyebrow is weird😂
You put a laughing hysterically emoji like your comment was the funniest thing ever. What’s funny is that you’re the only one that laughed at it and also got no likes. You’re either 8 years old or have absolutely no friends. Which one is it?
Don't tell me you're the only person who knows what that signifies?
For real? Or is the laughing emoji an attempt to cover up that you don't know & are feigning sarcasm?
WOW! Could this be the birth of another 'conspiracy theory'..?
people looking for meaning in everything. Salinger got extremely lucky that this short story got so much attention, it's a book about absolutely nothing.
The anti-intellectualism movement is worse than poison, damn
They you could’ve failed imo
Why do English teachers, whose responsibility is to teach good writing, repeatedly and reflexively require students to read a book as badly written as this one?
I think not liking Catcher in the Rye says so much about a person. Ppl with no empathy really dont resonate with the book. It also seems to really trigger them.
Hey cutie talk about straddler for a bit
Bruh
feel like you did that on purpose
Straddled in the bayou
Why bro
THE most overrated novel ever written !!!
I don’t agree. Misunderstood and not appreciated, yes.
Les Davis i don’t agree at all
Then probably you didn't understand the metaphors , then all these will seem too related to each one's personal life. Please watch John Green explain some points in his Vlogbrother videos, after giving it a second chance again. Then you might love it. The novel is best if you are lost and don't have any idea what next , or any other haphazard like that, then you will get everything goes around and around, and nothing is that much important to ruin your life
Post -war, sing/song writing style. Still, Pretty good book.
It is so to overrated!
Can I get you’re @ pretty lady
Good morning, sir
It’s night time here in the US

@@massterbeef Yeah, I am. Funnily enough, the only place outside of Tasmania, that isn't the Melbourne Airport, that I've been to has been WA (Broome).
Which part of Tasmania did you live in?
