We had four Dobermans over a period of 30 years, all deceased. They were all loving, loyal and special. The first one, Misty, was given to us by a neighbor. We were walking by and asked, "what kind of dogs are those?". They had two and asked us if we wanted one. We said we would take her home for the weekend to see; she never went back and the rest was history. She was afraid of feet, so obviously mistreated. We gained her trust, however, she only lived a few years. We missed her so much we quickly replaced her with two Doberman puppies, (Daisy Star & Crystal Sky). They both lived over 13 years. Buck, our last Doberman was from the pound. He was a wonderful loving companion. Miss them all. 😢

I would always take my Doberman hiking to a old abounded silver mine way in woods. No leash needed .At the mine I set my water bottle down while we followed the steep creek downward climbing over fallen trees boulders etc , looking in the creek for treasure that the winter wash exposed. Buddy “Doberman “ turned around halfway down the steep creek and headed toward the top? I’m like buddy come here , he kept going climbing over boulders over fallen trees he grabbed my water bottle then came all the way back down to me carrying my water bottle ❤️.then hiking out of the Forrest I saw a tree that a deer rubbed his horns on scraping the bark off, I took a picture of it and pointed it out to buddy. We’ll all the way out of the woods he would stop and touch his nose to a deer rubbing tree so I had to take a photo of his find. Ohh my goodness one picture of my find and 23 pictures of his finds. I miss my special hiking partner ❤

I just found your channel through an unrelated comment I just read. I have never owned a Doberman but have wanted to. Mostly because when I was a lonely child I remember my neighbor-family member had a Doberman and he was the only thing I could hug. I remember the adults not liking that I let the dog lick my face. The dog gave me love and that's why I prefer big dogs to this day.

I experienced the doberman intelligence first hand on Friday at puppy class... too bad it was used for evil.
He was being taught the "leave it" command by the trainer, which he mostly already knew, but there was beef jerky on the floor and he challenged the trainer the whole time.
Trainer was quick and kept body blocking him. Flint realized he wasn't going to get the jerky this way...
So he walked over to the trainer's golden retriever, whom was sleeping, and peed on her face to get the trainer to react and move away from the jerky.
The instant the trainer moved at all, he bolted for that jerky. I was horrified and impressed at the same time.

Oh yes, pee as a weapon .
So during house breaking. Mine noticed the mop used to clean accidents is kept behind the veranda sliding window, beside the bird feeder. She began to deliberately have accidents to get mom to open the sliding window and grab the mop....so she could steal food from the bird feeder.

My doberman has been by my side since she was born. She howls when I walk outside without her. She is very anxious though. I have to take her to a large yard so she can run. She can run for hours! She was my first puppy but she was very easy to train. She has knocked me down a few times but quickly made sure I was okay. I agree that you have to spend a lot of time with them and not everyone should have them because they are all muscle! One time, she wouldn't stop going after something. I couldn't hold her back or get her to calm down. I ended up having to pick her up and carry her away from the situation. I don't know if that was the right thing to do.

I have had two dobe's in my life. One was a rescue with insane intelligence. Without training, I could send her into a building to "go get XXX" she would find the person I was talking about and motion them outside. The next one I got as a puppy and she was a breed ambassador and everyone said they had never met a dobe they loved. I now have Manchester Terriers. They have the same bond to the owner and are very intelligent. They are situational protective, meaning just like a dobe, they sense the evil in a person. Both breeds are not for everyone you have to want to have a shadow.

Regarding loyalty and focus, everyday when I leave for work our Doberman must have a "group hug" before I leave; my wife and I hug, he then squeezes in between us and raises his head to be pet. If I'm home and she's gone, when she returns, I tell him "Your girlfriend's home." He barks and spins then waits by the door for her. When I come home, he barks and spins and waits at the door. When we come home at the same time, I yell "Everybody's home!" and he runs circles around the living room then greets us individually. I've had other dog breeds, none have reacted in a similar way.

Beckman's Dog Training did a video where he put other CZcamsrs/trainers into tiers. His lowest tier were the people who just talk about dogs and/or do reaction videos. His next lowest tier were people who show their own dogs in their training videos, but he feels those people aren't really helping others. He basically has no respect for anyone in those brackets. Of course, HE was in the top tier. lol I know you don't show Arlo because filming stresses him out. You're good at what you do so keep up the good work. 🙂

She phsycially touches everyone, including our baby bulldogs and cats when she does her hourly rounds. Shes amazing. Loves us to death. She gets zoomies in the bed which is painful lol. If you haven't John, you should look into paw healing ointment. My Doberman runs a lot and has recently began to start bleeding. Any products you recommend?

Question: Our Doberman is 32 inches high AND 32 inches long. His paws are 4 inches by 4.5 inches. He's just 1 year old. He was neutered at 5 months - could that have caused this size?

Before you get a Doberman know that these dogs aren't easy to raise. I was given a female puppy for free. People with Dobermans will always talk up the breed to the point that they don't express its potential problems.
So what I've learned from my dog:
    1. They can be easily over stimulated. They're an athletic breed so you might think that they require a ton of exercise and walks to tire them out, but in reality this could have the opposite effect and only give the dog more energy.
    2. They can be really hard headed. They could have days where they just don't care and won't listen to commands. I have researched and one of the things with this breed is that they can have a form of ADHD. I believe this could be to blame and yes this could be the case with a Doberman from a good bloodline as well.
    3. Unless you train your dog to be a guard dog, it won't automatically act as a protection dog. My dog is friendly with virtually everyone she's met. I've had strangers come to the door and she could be minding her own business in another room 😂.
    4. People have probably bred the protective instinct out of some of the dogs. I have found that most of the people that own this breed treat them like children, not dogs. In the past I've heard people call a dominant Doberman a problem Doberman so if you're looking for a natural protection dog as in it acts like a trained guard dog, chances are you're not going to get one unless you train it.
    5. This one is just my opinion but I think the Doberman community is toxic in the sense that they have probably changed the breed's personality traits. Just like how the pitbull community gets a bad rep for mishandling their dogs I feel that the Doberman community should be called out too. Now in this case it's the opposite of what the bully community is known for and it's that they might have bred the aggression out of the breed, but in doing so, the breed has potentially gained other unwanted personality traits. You won't believe how often I hear people talk about how their Dobermans have pretty much taken over their house like it's cute or something to be proud about. I think this adds to the idea of having a breed that's over praised by the same community that has enabled certain characteristics. In my opinion some people wanted a lapdog and got a Doberman when maybe they should've gotten a miniature pinscher. With that said, if you decide to get a Doberman it's very important that you see how the breeder has trained the parents because believe it or not the puppies even at 16 weeks old will carry the habits it learned from the breeder and it's parents.
I've owned multiple dogs over the years and one of the best dogs I've ever had was a mixed breed. It just goes to say that you shouldn't expect a dog to be a certain way only because of the breed. Remember that behind the breed there's always the community so if you want a dobbie look into the community and see if it's what you're looking for.
