  • New Maddox Heavy Duty Air Compressor from Harbor Freight by Maddox. See me compare it to the Pittsburgh brand. This is a great alternative to Smittybilt and great for Jeep or other off-road enthusiasts.

    Both units are great. I have the Pittsburg 150psi 12V unit, and now I also got the Maddox unit as well (Pittsburg is now going into the family hauler, keeping the Maddox for my personal daily). The only thing I cannot stand are the screw on inflator valves. They're useful maybe if you're filling a completely deflated tire, however if you just want to air up a few PSI they are annoying as all hell. No idea why HF couldn't at least for the Maddox go with a quick connect style for the valve attachment...whether a lever lock, or other style. So god d-mn annoying having to screw that thing on and off. Also forces you to always put a few PSI extra, then come back with a separate gauge and bleed the tire down to exactly what PSI you want. Other than that they work great, and are very reliable. Especially when you can get them on a sale...I think I paid like $98 or $105 for the Maddox with a coupon (don't remember if it was 25% off, or 30%).

      @DonziGT230 Před 6 měsíci

      @@zjty233 I wasn't making a comparison and you didn't need to be insulting, but I guess that's how you like to behave. It can still be had for about the same price as the Harbor Freight compressor, but it would still be a dumb comparison because they have very different beneficial applications.

    • @DonziGT230
      @DonziGT230 Před 6 měsíci

      @@MajorWeakness I loved it, but the advantage only shines if you have at least a 2-way hose, ideally a 4 way like I did. Using it as intended for one tire at a time, the size, weight, and amperage draw make it less desirable than the one you showcased.

    Pittberg runs like it's more rpm & sounds stronger believe it or not. I bought I it last week and for the girlfriend and runs really nice when I got this one it does seem a lot heavier duty and I did buy another bag for it even though I didn't really need to but it does seem like it's more doggy sounding but I think it's just muffled better with the filter because it did fill up the tire faster. Did the Pittsburgh will stay running I like it better because it's a little smaller and lighter and it's just the all-around good compressor this one looks sturdy and heavy duty and it is a little bit heavier and I do like it I hope it works out okay 4:35

    There is nothing like having a beefy, metal and aluminum compressor at the ready for emergencies or to air up after a trail ride. The only thing that would be better would be to have one made of iron and steel. How hot does it get after airing up one tire. My Ridgid cordless gets pretty hot after one tire and I have to let it cool down before I air up the next one.

    I got one of these for a friend. I like the pump, but hate the seemingly proprietary hose quick connect. If you are only going to use this for a jeep/car tire, I guess it would be OK. If you are going to fill just about anything else, the tire inflator/gage hose is useless. For example, I could not use it to fill the inside tire of my dually truck. We had 4 golf carts that needed air in all of the tires. The job was painful with this unit because you had to screw on the filler. And by the time you unscrewed it, you let out a few lbs of air. My ARB and Viair made quick work of the small tires. Not because of the volume of air, but because I could use a standard air chuck like the Merlin pistol grip inflator. The ARB and Viair both use standard 1/4" connectors so I can use any inflator that I need to do the job.
    To fix this, I purchased a cheap ($9) coiled hose at HF and removed the standard 1/4 inch female end. I was able to unscrew the spring that clamps the female connector to the hose. Then I cut the female end off of the proprietary hose, leaving about 5 inches of hose on the proprietary female end. Next I connected the 1/4" female end on the hose that came with the pump. With this setup, I can use a good inflator. The only issue is that the pump will hit the pressure release when you stop the air flow. The ARB and Viar will shut down with the hit max pressure.
    Back to the cheap hose, I cut the male end off. I connected that to the end 5 inch piece mentioned above. That way, I can still use the proprietary inflator/gage if I want to.

    You need to start it blowing first or it may not start pumping at all, like when you hook it up to an E Range truck tire (80 PSI max.), at close to 70 pounds and you want to add 5 more. My dual cylinder pump, no name brand, made in China, and what isn't these days, bought through WalMart, would not start pumping and so, on my own, figured out that starting it first made all the difference. Re reading the scant single page "poop sheet"; shows to connect the air line first, but letting it run before hook up is best. I also saw metal fillings come off the one I have so I am wondering if it is now broken in or am I set up for preemie failure ?
    .
    I read the Maddox manual and like its bounty of info including the parts diagram. I had to add some 14 Ga. stranded wire to the one I have as it would not reach to the back of the Tahoe or the extended cab, full size bed, Chevy pickup. I may have to get a Maddox, for back up, when a sale comes on. Thanks for a spot on presentation. 🤠

  • @goodmatch847
    @goodmatch847 Před 7 měsíci +2

    To be fair the Maddox is "beefier" as you stated and larger than the Pittsburgh. That would also translates into a larger motor on the pump which would provide more air pumped per volume in the elapsed time given. So not really a fair comparison in my opinion.
