I've been so wrapped up in riding and stuff, that I guess I've lost track of what real horsemanship is. this guy must play with his horses quite alot...lucky they have a sense of humor and like to play too. He is very athletic as well, the scary manouvre being on the horse backwards and rearing. What an excellent relationship he has with his herd. Alot of fun.I want to see more

Horses are not only magnificent creatures, but highly sensitive ones to love and care and Jean-François understood it. They consider him their leader, trust him and respond accordingly .
This is lovely, especially the times that he's not using a whip. Why would he need a whip? They are so tuned in to him that they respond to his every subtle gesture and thought, so what need do they (he and the horses) have for something that has a history of abuse, and even horses with no past whip experience will avoid their favorite person when s/he is carrying one?
The whip is and should never be used to hurt the horse. If you look closely, you will realize that it is used as an extension of his arm to guide the horse, which is the correct and only use of it.
If this same friend enters the play area with a whip, the horses leave immediately. When she throws the whip away and re-enters with an apology, the horses then resume their happy cooperation and play with her as she wants. My point was and is, there's no reason for using a whip with horses that we claim to be friends with.
One does not need to know God when there are horses. My spiritual needs are fully satisfied by simply being with my animals, and getting to know them is far more valuable to me than fruitlessly attempting to know an intangible, possibly non-existent being.

"Extension of his arm" - a baseball bat is an extension of an arm. A gun is an extension of the hunter's (or gang-banger's) arm. That does not explain why FP needs a whip to "communicate" with horses that know him and he allegedly loves. As I said the first time, they are tuned in to him, so what need do they have for a whip? A friend who trains her horses at true liberty, with zero restriction (no round pen, no ropes or halters or whips) can ask anything of her horses and they'll comply.
It's no a whip as such, just a long rod for guiding or suggesting with a light touch at distance. As JF Pignon once explained, horses are highly strung creatures and don't trust easily and they also have a formidable memory, but once they recognise in you the leader and trust you, they are ready to follow you, please you. If they didn't trust JF Pignon, whip or not, they wouldn't obey. JF Pignon doesn't even use the word "tame"

I've worked with some unhandled and spoiled horses who didn't understand that although we humans are physically puny, we are not their punching bags nor target practice. I play with my horses by running with them - NOT AT THEM - while popping the whip for excitement, alternating with stopping and skritching. When they are done playing I can pop the whip and they stand there and blow snot on me. My issue is with pretending that it's a subtle communication to point a whip, that it represents zero threat to the horse. It's the hypocrisy of calling it "an extension of the arm", as if that absolves it of any threat potential in the horse's mind. My horses trust me; I can run up on them shouting and with arms flailing and they might turn to see what the commotion is about, but they don't move away from me. I can touch all the vulnerable places without resistance. They come up from the 50 acre pasture when I arrive. The foals I've raised have never been stung with the whip, all the way into being ridden. Yes, I'll use a whip. And I acknowledge what it means to the horse. "Extension of the arm" doesn't being to cover it.
Firstly. the whip is only a pointer, not a means to an end. Secondly, not everyone does things in the same manner. There is not only one right way. Your head has taken you over
Horses that have never been hurt by a whip will not be afraid or mistrusting of one. If your friends horses trust her so much, then they shouldn't be afraid no matter what she has in her hands. The fact that they try to get away shows clearly that they have had bad experience. You are obviously ignorant of the correct use of a whip and just like the scared horses you can only imagine bad coming from it. I pity you and the poor horses.
