    Thanks for the video! I am at the end of part 3 now ( hope I passed everything). I had experience in a larger practice, but now work in a medium size one as well. Much better here. A third of my time take construction drawings, 10% construction stage, the rest is design 😊

    Whenever I hear folks talk about the UK, show images and open up about salaries, I'm reminded that my distaste for the place isn't based on some childhood trauma.
    ... Because everyone's there, I'm always second-guessing myself.

    Could you make a video all about university debt? I’m going to uni next year for architecture, and student loans is my one big worry, nowadays it costs soo much to go uni, I guessing it was cheaper back in the day.
    Could you also give tips to graduate students who are looking for their first job, what kind of skills are employees looking for, and what could make someone stand out from the crowd.

    Hey rus, big fan mate! I am an aussie with a british grandparent so I have access to the UK Ancestry visa. I am currently in my third year of BA Arch and would really like to live and work in the UK. What do you think my best path would be to achieve this? Should I go straight after my BA and take any job I can find or stay in aus and do my masters then go and look for work in the uk? Thanks

    • @ArchitectRussell
      @ArchitectRussell  Před rokem

      They are in the middle of making things easier between aus and uk. They have just done so with UK registered architects and USA next one is AUSTRALIA apparently. Depends where u want to work eventually then get work experience there if u can.

      @@ArchitectRussell Thanks for the quick reply! I am quite keen on moving over there as soon as possible to be honest. Do you think I would have luck find work there with just a BAArch and then doing my masters in the uk after a couple years?

    Could you do a video on your experience with overtime and stress within architecture? I am currently a Part 1 graduate and enjoy architecture however im not sure I want to pursue it due to everyone warning of high amounts of stress and unpaid overtime within the industry. I have been thinking about going into landscape architecture instead.

      Ok let me look at this I plan to do more talking vids that’s a good one. I think it varies person. Some people stress too much and hold on to their job like life depends on it. I don’t really do that.

    I love Russell’s straight to the point style. The other day I asked one of my colleagues at uni the origin of the term Architect and he was shocked when I told him it comes from the Greek: Arkhi-chief/tekton-builder, he was shocked! Thanks Russell, your insight is of great value for young people who may be thinking about studying architecture but are deterred by the pretentious attitude part of industry portrays. Cheers mate.

    I am recently graduated as an Architect in 2022 in India. I first work in a BIM outsourcing company as an Jr. BIM Architect for 5 months and then I got a job in Atkins as a Graduate Architect. In India we Architects are very underpaid. 55% of my salary is my rent. Can I move to Atkins UK?

    Architecture is a worn out profession technology is taking over which is why architects get trigger happy with the computer they have now commercialised it

    • @ArchitectRussell
      @ArchitectRussell  Před 22 dny

      While technology has undoubtedly transformed many aspects of the architectural profession, the role of architects remains vital in creating spaces that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and culturally relevant. While computers and software have streamlined certain processes, architects still provide the critical thinking, creativity, and human-centered design expertise that technology alone cannot replicate. Additionally, rather than commercializing architecture, technology has expanded its possibilities, enabling architects to explore innovative solutions and push the boundaries of design.
