    I think the generational divide thing is real as well. The older generations did not grow up reading Harry Potter or playing Nintendo, nor did they have options like Universal when they were kids, and when I hear them talk about Disney I hear so many stories about “nostalgia” and parents taking their kids to Disneyland or WDW as kind of a rite of passage. Whereas Gen Z does not seem to have the same level of nostalgia attachment to the Disney brand as their parents & grandparents and many of them won’t want to pay an arm and a leg for rides that were built in the 1970s at Magic Kingdom when they see rides like Hagrid’s & Starfall Racers just down the street at a more reasonable price.

      Went to universal for a 4 day trip and it was surprisingly affordable. There were some cheap hotel options decently close to Universal that had a complimentary bus servive which allowed me to avoid waiting for parking space. The park was absolutely fantastic with islands of adventute being an absolute mind blowing experience. The lost continent area was just gorgeous and the rides were fantadtic. The wait times despite being really packed went by a lot quicker than expected and was surprisingly entertaining thanks to the theming in the queue line. Overall I would definitely rate Universal over disney in quality and pricing.

    Another thing going in Universal's favor is guest experience. In between having to make reservations far in advance at Disney and Genie+ absolutely destroying standby lines (thus making itself a necessity to buy and learn), Universal is becoming more appealing simply because it's easier to just go and enjoy yourself for a day without having to plan out all this stuff in advance. I also tend to have better experiences with Universal employees than Disney CMs (the latter always seem overworked to me, but this obviously varies by experience). Combine all this with a Universal vacation being cheaper, and you're getting great value.

    I think the hotels show that Universal is going for being a vacation destination in it's own right, rather than something people combine with a Disney trip. Coming from the UK I've always done both but I'm planning a Universal, Busch Gardens trip for next year. Once Epic Universe is open I think you could easily spend 3 days across the OG parks, 1-2 days at volcano bay & 1-2 days at Epic.
    I still think their main park is the weakest of them/disney in Florida but islands is the best of all of them, and Epic looks like it's gonna be big enough to be on that level straight away instead of opening mid like most parks in the past.

    I believe Disney World will still remain supreme, however, Universal will give them the run for the money. Disney will need to create more quality rides, a few more roller coasters and rides like Star Wars. But in the end, I think Disney will still be the number one location in Florida. In L.A., Disneyland will still be top as well. Universal Hollywood is stepping up and all the construction coming up, I think it will be the place to go to. I love both parks equally and have lots of memories from Universal and Disney on both sides of the coast. I cannot wait for Universal Vegas to open, that will be loads of screams.

    • @TheGamefreak612
      @TheGamefreak612 Před rokem +1

      exactly. and I think the expansion plans for Universal will hurt overall attendance across the board. If they are making specific new parks themed around something that you have to go there to see; there starts the budgeting for travel for which to go to. Yes Disney has multiple parks as well with several unique things to the location but you are still getting the same standard experience no matter what park and that is where Disney will always reign supreme.
      Yes current leadership is seeing dollar signs more than the fabric of why people go to the Disney Parks and hopefully they realize that; and i think they already are making those steps getting rid of park reservation, toning down Genie + (though as a seasoned park goer I never use Genie + and still ride every ride without issue.) and bringing back plans and discounts that were in place prior to COVID.
      I just think people confuse rides with experience and sure Universal as some awesome rollercoasters but I can just go to the theme parks closer to home if I just want to ride rides all day. When I go to Disney I feel separate from the world Universal I still feel like I'm just in Orlando at just another coaster filled park.
      And this is my subjective option based on my experiences but I just don't see Disney ever not being the destination trip regardless of current circumstances

      @@TheGamefreak612- Six Flags, Busch Gardens, and Cedar Fair parks have the coasters, which are awesome. But that is it, just coasters. You know, if you think about it, Six Flags could increase their bottom line if they reduce half of their parks in the U.S.A. and concentrate their fundings on the highest attendance parks. Six Flags Magic Mountain in California should still be their flagship park as Cedar Park is for Cedar Fair. Nicholas, you said it best. People confuse rides over experience. Sure, Universal has great experiences. I have not been on VelociCoaster yet, but it looks amazing on the CZcams videos I've seen of it. I still like the Universal attractions that are not coasters as well. In the 80's and 90's, they had Conan which was awesome. The Terminator 3D was cool as hell. I also liked Disney's Captain EO, Star Tours (the old and new versions), and I did ride the Disneyland's People Mover one year before Disney shut it down.
      I go to Six Flags Fiesta Texas for the awesome Iron Rattler and Dolly World's awesome collection of coasters just for the thrills. I will say this Nicholas, Disney is the best at experience and immersion. Universal is a close second. When I go to Disney, I am in a fantasy world, removed from outside B.S. Universal does not give me this, but it is still a grand park. I do not consider it to be a coaster-filled park, just a different kind of park. After a day at Universal, I feel fulfilled and complete. When people try to compare Disney with Universal, there is no comparison. Disney does have a great history and a lot of original intellectual property that makes Disney what it is. Adding the new properties; FOX movies, Pixar, Lucasfilm, National Geographic, Marvel, Touchstone Pictures, and ESPN, they have a lot of material that they can expand on years to come. I know Disney is having to cut back now. Igor did buy Fox properties for billions of dollars, the Star Wars hotel was not as successful as they liked, and Disney spent too much money on Disney+. But if Disney can get it going, I would like to see some of the blue-sky projects come to life: Magic Kingdom expansion with new lands behind Big Thunder, expansion of the Disney Resort in California if Anaheim city just re-zones, fixing or removing the People Mover in California, bring DisneySea to Animal Kingdom (Disney, this would be the best), add two more world pavilions to EPCOT, add another quality attraction like Rise of the Resistance, and add a few more heavily themed roller coasters. In 2050, a fifth park?
      I think Disney could use a few more coasters. An awesome Rocky Mountain Construction hybrid featuring Alladin magic carpet doing a tour of Agrabah. A kid indoor coaster featuring Coco flying through the city of the dead. A Bolliger & Mabillard outdoor standing coaster (almost like the Pipeline at Sea World) with either Ironman or Ironheart, where the riders are testing out a new flying suit and we are the ones testing it. Now, we could see a few more indoor dark rides like Mickey's Runaway Train as well. Please, no more teacups and aerial carousel-style rides. They have enough of those.
      I am going to stop here because now, I am just dreaming. I cannot wait to see what both Disney and Universal come up within in the next few decades. Also, will any theme park get a coaster five hundred feet in the air?

I started to plan a disney world trip, paid money and about a month after "booking" everything called and cancelled because i was getting emails on, dont forget this and that. Buy this, preplan that. I just said enough and we went to Disneyland instead. The most planning I want is what day im going, what hotel im staying at and what flights will get me there. Everything else I want to be decided when convenient

    Also season passes are soooooooooo much cheaper for locals which is important, and at least here in California Super Nintendo world is actually a Disney level pull (I’m hearing a ton of people saying let’s go to universal instead of Disney in convo) and in Cali even day tickets are about 30%. Cheaper than Disney. Even with universal Cali restrictions they are still being seen on the level of Disney for a reasonable price

    I love Universal but they need to build more family friendly rides and attractions. Many adults and children cannot ride rollercoasters and simulated rollercoasters. Motion sickness is an issue for a lot of people on those rides. I have been on almost every ride at Disney but there are quite a few rides at Universal I cannot ride, and I just have to bypass when I go.

    You are forgetting the biggest area where Disney has drastically declined and Universal has drastically upped their game. Guest Relations. Since Covid Guest Relations has been terrible at Disney. I tell this story as a microcosm of the Guest experience at both parks. In 2021 we decided to see how the parks were handling covid restrictions (we are travel agents and wanted to see what our clients were experience) on the Universal portion of our trip Team members were happy polite and working with guests to ensure protocols were met. During the Disney portion I witnessed Cast Members get in literal fights with guests
    I saw a Cast Member on Star Tours refuse to start the ride because a 4 year old couldn't keep his mask glasses and 3d glasses on. It was horrible. But here's the kicker that trip unexpectedly fell on the day where outdoor masking went away. We went to both resorts. Disney Cast Members were angry at people for not wearing masks and Universal Team Members were all saying its good to finally see your faces again. Customer service matters Disney has forgotten that

      We just came back from a combo Universal/Disney trip and I noticed the same thing. Last time I was at Disney was 2018 and the magic was still there. Now a much higher proportion of cast members seem to have lost the joy that was once there. 2018 Disney cast seemed to still be fighting to make guest experiences magical. Now if you want real magic, you go to Harry Potter lands. The staff at Universal is so welcoming...which wouldn't be as noticeable if it weren't for the contrast/gap Disney has left.

    • @Aresie271
      @Aresie271 Před rokem +1

      Yeah I came back from Disney and Universal earlier this week and noticed a similar thing…there were multiple guest relations CMs that were just really rude and a CM on the Guardians ride was being a total jackass about getting enough people on the ride (basically he asked for a party of four but didn’t speak clearly enough and then yelled “no party of four? Okay cool we’ll go without you!” and whenever people finally heard him two parties of four started making their way down, whenever the first party came he told the other group “too bad, should’ve came earlier!”). Hell even on Rise of the Resistance a couple of the cast members seemed bored.
      Then I go to Universal and every CM is so happy to be there, they were all so jovial and felt like they just wanted us to have a good time.
      I theorize the problem could be that Disney CMs are overworked compared to Universal but it could be something else, who knows.

I went a long time ago when I was six ish and I remember riding thunder mountain, splash mountain, and space mountain, which were all fine, but compared to the lineup at universal, it’s nothing. Velocicoaster is the best coaster I’ve been on with the intense features and theming. Hagrids is a very fun ride and has got the best theming on a ride yet, which both these rides have over the theming at Disney, so I think from the point I’ve went to universal after Disney, I thought it was the best park in florida, and I still do.

They were still same level since we didn’t do Knotts (Ghostrider was being retracted anyways) and Hell No to an inexperienced 8 year old at the land of Twisted Colossus, X2 and Tatsu. Judging by the photos on Google Images, Typhoon Lagoon has less visible slides and more immersion. However, I've also heard that Volcano Bay has the more thrilling slides.

      Volcano Bay's theming is definitely prevalent but it's not really the focus of anything, it's the baseline for what their rides look like and such. Volcano Bay has some thrilling stuff, for example there's trapdoor slides that never have a line because they're so scary people don't do it. I've never been to Typhoon Lagoon, though.

    I recently went to Florida on vacation. Got to visit Universal Studios, Islands and some Disney Parks. And tbh I would say both Disney and Universal are some what of an equal state in terms of pricing. However, you get your money’s worth at Universal Studios Diagon Alley and with everything to do at Islands of Adventure. Universal Studios to me is still weak because of the many screen based/3D attractions (FF, Jimmy Fallon, Simpsons which gave me neck problems the rest of the trip). Despicable Me is just not for me but I understand it’s purpose for family and kids. But Disney have way to many problems with the amount of people that go to the parks, rides constantly being down do to technical issues and the absurd amount of wait times for some rides that are ok. When Universal opens Epic Universe, I think that is when a major shift will happen. I could go on for days about some issues but I already made this comment way too long.

    I'm biased living in PA but people sleep on Hershey Park. It's a massive theme park (with water park and zoo) literally built around the chocolate factory. They also have 2 luxury hotels, golf courses, 2 arenas (home to a minor league hockey team), a football stadium, a theater, museums, and a freaking school! It's not Disney or Universal but it's the clear #3 in my book, and way more immersive/better themed than any 6 Flags or Cedar Fair property.
