- I should have done this RIGHT after installing headers on the C5 Corvette | DriveHub
6 months ago, I installed Speed Engineering long tube headers on the C5 Corvette. At that time, I should have deleted the AIR/EGR system on the C5 Corvette, but I didn’t. SO, in today's video, we are giving the C5 Corvette an oil change AND removing the C5 Corvette AIR/EGR system. Here’s how to remove the AIR/EGR system from the C5 Corvette!

So EGR stands for exhaust gas recirculation. This is a system that increases mpgs and meets emission requirements because inert exhaust will not go boom or ignite. This inert exhaust being fed from your heads to your intake will fill a portion of the volume in your cylinders, effectively “lowering” displacement.
So that is what the tube to your intake was, it was the main feed of the exhaust gas back into your car.
Yo bro! I’m a fellow NH car guy as well! Glad to see you representing us! Keep up the good work bud
I bought a "quickjack". Trust me... its well worth the cost for a DIY'er. Best of all you can store it away and not take up valuable garage space.
(Use it on my 04Z06 and many other cars / SUV's / trucks)
whats even better is he has that corner where he keeps the wood just put the jacks there
Looking forward to that 1st fun run with the boys.
Great video Jake I enjoyed it very much.with me I'm to old to get under my 2002 C 5 Corvette so I just take it to the shop.
Good video Jake. Get a small tubing cutter and cut the hard line as far back as you can to get rid of it.
I removed my Airpump just last week.. installing a supercharger and long tube headers so I figured I didn't need it anyways lol. You have to pull the intake to get the other half. It was not fun. but I mean it was easy enough as long as you put forth the time. The worst part is removing the annoying clamps.
FYI Jake, there is a Supertech (Walmart brand) filter that is exactly the same filter made at the same facility that makes the AC Delco, but is half the price. Down here is South Louisiana the Ac is around $10 a piece while the Supertechs are $4 and some change.
AC delco's lil over 4$ at walmart, also about same price on Amazon here in North LA lol
As a matter of fact, it's not always the same for years or for the whole country. They often change contracts with manufacturers and you won't know if they are using the same quality. So, to be on the safe side, go with AC Delco when you know you're getting a good quality every single time. It's only 6 dollars more. You could save more by getting a bulk online.
When you were jacking up the back I was waiting for the car to start rolling off the ramps, lol, remember e brake on c5s are on rear wheels
Man I feel ya pain on on jacking up the car for oil changes. I even have to go through the same process on my wife’s 2011 BMW 328.
I also just did the magnetic drain plug. I’m curious to see what all it catches on mine with 72,000 miles. I never baby my C5 either. I drive it like it was designed.
Get a quick lift system. They’re not cheap but they lift the car up high and at the same time.
Wow, on my C6 I just drove it up some wooden ramps I created by sandwiching boards together to create steps.
They sell jack blocks that go on your corvette. I have them for my Camaro. When I jack it up so it doesn’t mess up the pinch weld’s.They fasten to the pinch weld’s with Allen key.look into it because it makes it easier
Get a quick jack when you can helps a lot.
Did you get teh MIL light for air pump? Mine came out and keeps coming on..
Curious why your oil pressure is pegged at 80psi? Is the sensor shot or are you running a heavy weight oil?
Did you get any error codes when you deleted the EGR and air pump.
Do those wheels fit without any haggle?
I installed headers and removed the air pump, but now no longer have the vacuum vent control for the HVAC, anyone else?
Did you get a Service Engine Soon lamp come on removing the air pump system?
So much more room for activities
Lol intake manifold is easier than putting headers on. I just ordered the Texas speed headers wirh the xpipe. I honestly don’t trust $400 headers so I went with them.
Some day you’re going to say,,…. Why did I take all that stuff off….🤷. I only say this because in the late sixties, early seventies, we did the same thing with the A.I.R. systems. 👍🙋♂️🖖🏻
I just give my C5 to my friend who has a lift at his shop to do oil changes, so much easier lol
I assume your check engine light is codes for the EGR system. You have tune them out.
Removing intake really isn't that bad I don't think. If you do remove it, change your oil sensor and do a relocation kit to make it easier next time.
wym removing intake?
How many miles does your corvette have now?
Pour some clean oil down from the top to easily clean out the old oil.
hey Jake any idea what this could be I got a C5 corvette myself and when I go around a turn I have water come into the passenger cabin on to the feet of the passenger thought it was the utters so cleaned them but its still happening
It could be that your A/C condensation drain tube could be clogged causing it to leak into the footwell
If that’s the case you can make the opening bigger so it’s less likely to clog and make sure to give the hose a squeeze so any remaining water in it will clear out 👍
My pump is still there, shoulda took it out when I did the fog/parking lights, but didn't so there it'll stay. Your oil pressure sensor, i was able to take a coat hanger and unplug the wire then a oil sensor socket and wobblehead got the sensor out w/o taking intake off, took like 20 min.

Amen 🙏🙏🙏
Only use Mobil One oil filters w/ Mobil One oil. Little known information says both the filter in combination w/ the oil has a positive effect cleaning your engine, together they are simpatico having shared attributes that compliment one another.
Nothing happens if you use the PH44 from AC Delco with Mobil 1 oil. Regards Mr.
That was first cold start pump takes the oil smoke from head some kind of emission crap...(California crap)
hang on to the parts you may need to reinstall to past smog test if that applies
Bro save yourself.!
After disassembling many engines and seeing all of the oil still inside after draining trust me it's not worth all this effort to get a couple of additional ounces out.
Jake, as always I enjoyed the video. But it's time to change your mind on FRAM. No! Seriously. Here's why. Look for the industry standard ISO 4548-12 multi-pass test. According to ACDelco, their oil filters are 64% efficient at 20 microns and 99% efficient at 40 microns. So good at stopping bricks and birds, but not much else. Now consider that FRAM has varied tiers starting with their famous orange can. Their top-level oil filter, the FRAM Ultra Synthetic is leaps and bounds above the orange can. With wire backed synthetic filter media and metal end caps. It’s filtering efficiently is 99+% efficient at 20 microns. According to the SAE, “Controlling the abrasive contaminants in the range of 2 to 22 microns in the lube oil is necessary for controlling engine wear.” So next oil change for the Vette, I suggest a FRAM XG3506. FRAM Ultra is all I use in my vehicles.
Thank you for your advice Mr.
I am totally convinced of the science behind the Fram Ultra filters I now put them on all of my vehicles and all of my family's vehicles

Wow up early for a holiday!
sooooo.. you never showed the viewers what the "magnums" were for.
That guy is in the header install video.
This guy tries way too hard to be funny…. would be much better without the quirky humor 😊
