      Received it today, I followed your tutorial and set up a wired joystic pad to play my very 1st game: Pong !
      I have selected a ''short'' list of about 550 games that I intend to go through in chronological order (up to Dreamcast/GBA), I start with Pong (1972, surprisingly I had a lot of fun playing it) and then jump to 1977 with atari 2600 and some arcade games.
      It should take about a year or two to reach Dreamcast games, I will play exclusively my gamelist and avoid the new gen for a while.

    Thank you so much for posting this! It really helped me with the "Joystick Buttons Custom" as well as understanding that now that the system recognises which button does what you still need to configure it per port in retroarch as well as then needing to be configured per core too. Very helpful.

    If you hit whatever your “drive button is”, the button to put it into drive in crazy taxi if you hit that button just before hitting the gas, you can do a wheelie and takeoff really fast!!
    Alternatively, if you hit the button that puts it in reverse just prior to hitting the brake button, you can bring the car to an immediate staff with the tail end of the car going into the air in the car stopping on a dime !!
    Finally, you hit both of those buttons and hold them going into a turn at full speed. You can drift the taxi sideways and this is the same in every crazy taxi game.!

    Sheeeesh this doesn't work either. The console maps whatever the hell it wants to when I open games, start becomes X, right trigger becomes analog up, etc. Console gamepad is completely useless at this point, and the second I hit menu the system freezes. I think I'll be returning this, and getting a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro when available. This is a really bad system but I guess you get what you pay for!
    Edit: leaving initial disappointment here in case anyone runs into the same problem. As far as I can tell, the problem might be ROM based since some Dreamcast and PS1 games work fine with controller and others have a mind of their own. My complaint being I wanted the vertical handheld experience with the option to video out and use controller. I intentionally decided to forego a device with built-in analog sticks so am disappointed mainly by the inconsistency with a paired controller

    I find some judder in this firmware that was not present in the previous one. For some reason, v-sync is not working anymore. Strangely enough, if you activate "Sync to exact content" in retroarch, fps counter will be capped to 60, but judder will remain. This is pretty noticeable in Cadillacs & dinosaurs (especially in the panning/traveling the camera does over the buildings at the beginning of the game. On the previous firmware it was buttery smooth. Not anymore. It looks like the display itself reports to retroarch it has a 64.926 Hz refresh rate, whereas in the previous firmware it reports 59.941 Hz. That might be the problem.

    • @JaviPlayRetro
      @JaviPlayRetro  Před 8 měsíci +2

      This firmware is definitely not perfect. I found a lot of issues when changing settings in retroarch, too, for some reason. For example, if you enable sound for the retroarch menu, both dreamcast and psp break, where you can not access the retroarch menu in the game. Really odd behavior.
      Also, I was messing with the retroarch settings to see if I could change the hdmi settings so it could be the correct aspect ratio, and I couldn't find anything.

    I got a different brand of wireless controller and I can't seem to map the controls on PPSSPP (the emulator the rg35xx plus uses for PSP games, which uses its own kind of settings and configuration separate form the retroarch one.) Although on the brighter side, I can just launch my PSP game via rg35xx+ settings>retroarch settings>start retroarch>load content. That way your tutorial applies and my controller is usable. It's quite cumbersome though to go through all of those menu just to launch my game 😅

So you know it's there's a way to control as player 1 with both the console and a Bluetooth controller? If my Bluetooth controller is set as default, it shows as player 2 and the console as player 1. I tried setting Port 1 as the Bluetooth controller, but then the console controls were disabled when I switched the controller off and went back to being portable again. I am then stuck in the retro arch menu. Only think I can do is reset the handheld. I know the handheld is not frozen because I can see the menu selector continue to pulse. Im sorry you can change the menu hotkey in retroarch but I dont recommend that because it will change the configuration of the RG35XX Plus. However if youre okay changing it to something else like start+select or L2 + R2 you can do that. Just remember this will be the same on the handheld when you get off the TV.

      You can hook it up to monitor as well. Just keep in mind whether or not the monitor has built-in speakers or you will not get any audio. Something to note but other than that you can use a monitor as well. I do it all the time at work.

    Hi. Great video, but I have a question. Will pairing two controllers somehow affect how games will perceive the RG35XX+ controls itself? Because the first controller will be set as a Player 1 and the second controller wil be set as a Player 2. Will I need to change something if I will want play just with the RG35XX+ controls or are they always set as a Player 1?

    • @JaviPlayRetro
      @JaviPlayRetro  Před 8 měsíci +1

      No, so in this setup the controller you add is also player 1 but you change that by changing the port in options. The RG35xx will remain the same you don't need to change anything
