This movie hits different when u watch it as a kid vs when u watch it now. Growing up we love SRK and Rani's characters and we ship them. Now we realise how SRK's character was an ass and how Abhishek and Preity Zinta's characters deserved way better.

Not just getting physical, but even showing/expressing that they love eachother is wrong. (In last scene of the song Mitwa, Dev shows Maya that he's interested in her and not his wife when he glances over at Maya- that act alone is wrong). But the reason I loved this movie was because of the ability to recognise flaws in both the protagonists but regardless being able to connect with them. I don't think Maya and Dev were 'in love' but more that they connected with eachother because of their downfall, hardships, and insecurities they both faced- a certain element of which we can find in our own lives. Although their partners tried to make the marriage work, it wouldn't have been possible to forget everything and accept failure given you were once successful. Yes I felt bad for Rhea and felt even worse for Rishi (the man who dedicated almost everything for his wife's love to get nothing in return). Maya realises she is all Rishi had while he hugged her during his father's death. Similarly (in a deleted scene) Rhea attends her son's football match, which again proves she genuinely didn't have time for Dev due to her commitments, and not because of her lack of affection towards him as Dev misunderstood it. It's strange how our own perception of people we interact can with change based on our internal perception of ourselves. If we're insecure, we can without substantial evidencejump to conclusions to think that others are embarrassed of us when it may well be that they just didn't have time.
Other movies have the antagonist as the villain, but the antagonist is the protagonist. This is evident when they make mistakes but feel an extreme sense of guilt and remorse over their actions. That is something which is unique in this movie- the fact that you can connect to Dev and Maya when you feel depressed with a low self worth.
I hate Karan Johar for making such filthy movies. Neither was Abhishek a bad husband nor was Preity a bad wife. Uselessly they were cheating. In Silsila at least Amitabh and rekha realise their fault and return to their spouses. This Karan provoked extra marital affairs.
Abhishek is so underrated. He is way more better than today's star kids

THIS MOVIE IS A FREAKIN MASTERPIECE. The way they potrayed harsh reality and consequences of INFEDILITY is beyond excellent. The point of the movie is no matter what or who, you can fall in love anytime but if you cheat, it ruins so many lives. I sympathize with Dev's character (SRK) only because at the end, he realises what he did was wrong when he says to Maya that Khushi aur Gham to sab baat te hai mai tumhare saath apni saza baatna chahta hu. He realises what he did was wrong and that is why he's my favourite (off screen too).
That moment when u realise that this film was released 15 yrs ago... Damn i feel old haha. But this album has to be one of my fave albums of all time!
