    As a swede, watching both of these videos, I almost cringed when I saw it was a lot of generic ICA brand stuff, and just regular candy, but you seemed to love it, wich means I am a bit spoiled by having those as every day items.

    ICA is a huge grocery store company here in Sweden. And the citronkaka and chokladmuffins (lemon are and chocolate muffin) costs only around 20 kr which is equal to around 2 pound in UK

    The S märke surt skum is supposed to resemble the stickers which was sitting on cars in the back to show that you are a tourist if you were driving in another country. Many european countries had thise stickers in the 80ies, even GB. Nothing to do with supermarket. Skum means foam. Nice page you have there!

  • @epettersson80
    @epettersson80 Před 2 lety +34

    ICA is the biggest and most popular supermarket chain in Sweden. So basically “ICA” is ICAs own brand, which means cheaper products with the same quality as the brand leading products ☺️ (although some are better than others😂 but that’s the idea)

      So many comments about ICA branded stuff. Might be true when comes to other products, but for packaged lemon sponge cake and chocolate muffins, what are the so called brand leading companies?

    • @epettersson80
      @epettersson80 Před 5 měsíci

      @@snowyfall753 The comment was general about ICAs own line of products. Not EVERYTHING has to have a counter part but many things do, like Heinz ketchup, Kelloggs Frosties , Zeta olive oils etc. Then there’s the Swedish brand leading companies like Arla, Kungsörnen, Felix etc, which ICA often have a cheaper alternative to as well. But as I said, not EVERYTHING has a brand leading counter part - that’s just the marketing of the Supermarkets own line of products ☺️ “Cheaper but just as good” kind of ☺️

    You should ask someone to send Aladdin a box of chocolates.
    It is a box with 100 chocolate pralines in 13 different varieties, which many buy for Christmas (Christmas tradition)
    Can be nougat filling, strawberry filling, liqueur and more
    Every Christmas, 2 million Aladdin chocolate boxes are sold
    A few years ago, a chocolate variety was replaced in the box.
    One person had an older Aladdin chocolate box left unopened.
    He received 15,000 SEK for it (1000 British pounds)
    So lovely is Aladdin's chocolate box in Sweden for sweeds ,
    But in the store it costs 70 SEK approximately, 5 British pounds.
    It's Marabou who makes Aladdin. The same manufacturer that makes the chocolate you end this video with.
    They've been doing Aladdin since 1939
    Every Swede has eaten Aladdin
    I have never seen anyone test Aladdin when they test Swedish Candy.
    And would have been very interesting to see it.
    Keep up the good work :)
    With kind regards / Joakim - Sweden

    Kola = toffee, taffy, caramel and it is a flavour, as in toffee or caramel, but it's also used for candy with that type of softish chewy consistency so you could have hallonkola which is a raspberry flavoured chewy candy with no toffee flavour.

    There's thousands of candy flavors in Sweden since we have the pick & mix sweets concept that it truly makes it difficult to even try them all. We all grow up with different experiences when it comes to candy and it slightly alters the Swedish population's sweets preference. If you were to ask the top 5 favorites of random people on the streets, without them talking to each other, I don't think you would get the same answers.

    Awesome video. For us in Sweden, candy isn't always about being sweet. It is about tickling the palate in different ways, hence you go between sweet, sour and salty (hence much of the salty candy). Also you want to some to be crunchy/crispy, some to be soft and others to be chewy! So it is always an adventure of flavours and textures. Hence the difference in candy culture. Swede's are some of the highest consumers of candy per capita, and we take it very seriously! You will also notice how many things will switch flavour whilst you eat it. For example, some will start very salty, but once you get passed that it switches to sweet (and vice-versa). Let me know if there's something particular you would like to try and I will get it for you!

    Some ppl abroad from Sweden think Swedish candy taste too little since there are restrictions in which flavours you can use in our candy. I find ours taste less fabricated though. Same with soft drinks

    You got some wierd treats sent to you this time and some that are obvioulsy not Swedish like maoam. Pity they chose TUC blend for the Marabou and not the liqourice-one. Finland's Fazer have an amazing chocolate bar with turkish pepper from the same brand, goes very well with red wine for some reason

    Think ICA is like yer Tesco, a huge grocery store brand. We have a few huge grocery stores, and most of them have their own brand of things that is a bit cheaper, but honestly, not too bad indeed
