    It's interesting to see a new review (a look back) of the Omega Seamaster 300m. I bought mine a few years ago and still love it (white dial). What I found most striking (at the time of purchase) was the contrast of the while dial paired with the OEM black rubber strap. I bought mine on the black rubber strap, thinking I'd never wear the bracelet. But I later added it. And while the bracelet is not perfect, it has grown on me. No watch is perfect, but the Seamaster 300m is a great watch.

    Aquired the great white on bracelet 4 weeks ago and so glad I stood firm and managed to save for it. Just bought the black and grey bond Omega nato strap for it which looks and feels great. The only negative I would say is the bezel movement but then again not as though I go diving so not as though I have too much of a need to be twiddling the bezel too often. Great watch and brilliant review.

    Bruce, thanks for the great recommendation! I have recently purchased a blue Planet Ocean with 8900 calibre. Amazingly, it ran at +0.5 secs over 4 days of normal usage.
    Then I also realised this SMP 300 is equally attractive with the gloss ceramic dial and bezel, which I am equally lusting after. After experiencing the astounding accuracy of the 8900, I am pretty sure this 8800 calibre should not be far off. In addition, the 15000 gauss anti-magnetism capability is impressive as its METAS certification.
    Appreciate your detailed videos and close-up shots. It would offer viewers a good opportunity to assess the build quality. Keep your videos coming! Cheers!

    The blue one was my first luxury watch. Since then I have gotten a few more of them, most recently the black dial version. I bought all on the bracelet, but also bought a couple of the OEM rubber strap with the fold over clasp (blue and black). I switch between the bracelet and the strap depending on my mood.
    The negatives you mentioned do not bother me, but I know they do bother some.
    I am relatively new to the hobby and far from being an expert, but one thing I’ve learned is try a watch on in person if at all possible before you buy it.
    All of that being said, I loved this watch when I first got it and I still love it.

    I got this color variant in May 2022. I love everything about the watch even the negatives you mentioned is acceptable to me.
    I did feel a little underwhelmed by the accuracy of my particular unit. Its metas card says 4.4 but it would go beyond this in a 24 hour period. Usually gets to about +6 seconds the next morning after being worn the previous day and then placed dial up for 10 hours overnight on a night stand. Mind you that accuracy is still very very good, but i guess i had high expectations for the term master chronometer 😅
    Also my 3135 caliber rolex sub runs at +1.5 seconds daily so i guess in this instance, the difference in their price is evident.
    Thanks for the review. Makes me appreciate my omega even more❤

    totally changes the look and feel of the watch.
    Every few months I swap out the steel bracelet for the NATO strap and wear it like that for a week or two, keeps the watch "fresh"
    If you're feel the urge to buy a new watch, buy a new strap for your current watch instead, it may scratch that itch.

    Yes! Wearing exactly a black dial SMP300 now, and completely agree. It's my daily wear, and could easily be a one and done for me if it ever came to it. The black is so much more versatile, even elegant in its own sporty way, than it gets credit for. I actually really like the no taper bracelet. It kind of works for the sharp lined, robust, no nonsense approach and design language. And it counter balances the HEV by giving a little heft and presence down wrist.

  • @Lee_K_5555
    @Lee_K_5555 Před rokem

    I've owned two, a white dial and currently have a blue dial. I have been generally pleased with the watch overall. I bought my watches with the bracelet but find it way too heavy for my comfort, so Zealande rubber straps have been an excellent and cost-effective way to enjoy the look of a fitted rubber strap for half the price of what Omega charges for their OEM strap. Neither of my Seamasters have had bezel action that I would consider good -- way too stiff and very difficult to grip properly. I don't even bother using the bezel anymore. Accuracy has been about +5 seconds a day, at the upper limit of the METAS certification. What I do like about the watch is that it is quite elegant looking, with interesting and unique features on the dial and case. On the rubber strap, the watch is very comfortable at 110 grams, and that can be brought even lower with a NATO strap. What I really appreciate about the blue variant is that the dial and bezel insert both are made from ceramic material which precisely matches in tone. Very few dive watches do that. To me, this or the blue variant of the Pelagos are the most fulfilling blue dive watches I have ever owned.

    A great balanced review Bruce! I'm possibly a tad biased as I have the Great White version. I've pondered changing the bracelet to a different strap but when I get the time to do it I just find myself enjoying it as it is. It's comfortable and the tool less micro adjust is a breeze. That mirror finished laser cut dial looks so much better in person than in any review pics of videos. I love the fully indexed bezel as it just balances everything out. I don't even mind that tooth past cap He valve as it's part of the history of the watch and is instantly recognisable as a Seamaster Professional from across the room. Thanks for sharing.

      I own this in the 'seaweed' green on the rubber strap. It's a stunning watch. A quality build and definitely a keeper. With it being a dive watch I can't understand the criticism of the scalloped bezel. I would have thought that once under air, you wouldn't have a requirement to change the bezel setting. Similar with the Helium escape valve. It's a feature that makes the Seamaster what it is. Omega please leave it as it's designed. You have a winner.

    I’m still in my honeymoon with the SOH and absolutely love It. It’s really a jewel on your wrist
    The omega is more of an allrounder. The bezel action is more smooth. The movement the same. and is in its own league.
    I have it on steel and rubber.
    The omega rubber is really expensive for a piece of rubber but still worth every penny.
    I wanted the SOH for my first luxury watch ( back then in Blue) but I’m convinced that the SMP is better suited for that. Even with the price difference ( although 2 years ago prices were closer together)

    As a very recent owner of the blue bracelet version, I wish it was 1mm thinner (I'd take that over the exhibition caseback) and that the bracelet is a bit more refined with softer edges (which is offset by the excellent glidelock clasp and great iconic design). These are the only negatives and definitely not deal-breakers. The warty HEV is Ok for me, it gives it character. Perfect daily driver.

    • @steelsteez6118
      @steelsteez6118 Před rokem +5

      @@roscopeco2000 try it on the wrist. Not sure why people complain about the thickness. It's literally only 13.6 mm and that's including the partially domed crystal and bezel. The side profile itself is really thin. It's just the crystal and bezel that add that extra thickness but since they weight next to nothing, you can't really feel that extra thickness. Hard to explain, just please try it on the wrist and see if it changes your mind. I reckon that unless you have extremely dainty wrists, it should disappear on your wrist throughout the day. I always forget mine is on (can only speak for the feel on rubber). The HEV is absolutely pointless. However, it wouldn't be the seamaster without the HEV now would it? One of those stupid quirky little things but I get where you're coming from. It would look cleaner without it, but I have grown to like it for this signature look. In a silly way, it sorta resembles the iconic 007 silhouette pose of him holding his gun.
      On a more positive note, I can say that you'll never know it's there when wearing it. Has never pressed against my skin or anything. Also, the bracelet sucks ass. Gotta go rubber. It's fantastic.

    As per other comments and as a previous current white dial SMP300 owner....I must say the SMP300 would be a *perfect* Diver..if Omega reduced it to..or offered a version in 40mm and updated the bracelet to make it more contemporary and with a taper to give it more refinement... I would happily keep the HEV if these changes were made and I would buy it again...I sold mine after 3 months of ownership for a Tudor BB Pro, as I just couldn't find any love for the bracelet...its just too 90's and gawdy. Please please Omega...give us an alternative size SMP300 for smaller wrists (6.5") and below..and offer with a tapering bracelet like the latest Speedies....The watch is Sooo good apart from these frustrations... and as good if not better than a Rolex Sub

The bezel is a total disaster, however. It's almost completely unusable. The accuracy after a couple years is excellent. After two days on the wrist it's off by +0.5 seconds. So...the bezel is trash for the price and the rest of the watch is fantastic.

    Years ago every Omega fanboy said everyone has a Submariner...guess what? now it seems that everyone has one of these....with that being said, it is an absolute amazing watch. I had the standard version, but it became too popular, so I got the ceramic/Titanium case version as well. It comes with a much higher price, but it is totally worth it. I sold the standard version...no regrets so far.

    It's definitely a bargain on the grey market - I picked my white dial brand new on c24 with all papers for £3.6k in Jul 21. The clasp failed last year but was honoured under warranty. I'd forgo the bracelet - Better aftermarket options (better being comfortable for 6 - 7inch wrists) - Forstner and Uncle Seiko. I wear my white dial on an Erika MN and a tan ostrich - Wears great. I bought the oem strap and can't get a good fit - To tight or too loose but it's a superb strap quality wise. Best watch for the money if bought for a good price and you're not fussed about the "AD experience ". Nice Video Bruce!

      Congrats on your purchase!! I’m considering getting the black dial variant in the next couple of weeks since it was my 30th birthday last month (same age as the diver 300m line) and I also got a new job from April.
      We also can get one brand new much cheaper than retail if we go for the grey market. Around 500,000 JPY in Tokyo.
      My only concern is that my wrist is only 5.9” and not sure if I can pull this thing off.

    • @wristshotter7832
      @wristshotter7832 Před rokem

      @Lemonade Candy Hey, Happy Bday and Congrats on the new job! Wow that's a great price - A lot of watch for the money! I'd definitely go for a strap option and the Forstner Bullet (Aftermarket bracelet) has a nice taper from 20mm to 16mm which helps reduce the size. It's not a small watch by any means but something to reduce the bulk will help - The previous ceramic model without the wave dial actually wears better and is 1mm smaller and that 1mm definitely makes a difference. If you could find a NOS or good condition one and stick a Forstner bullet - That would be a killer piece for a smaller wrist - Well for any wrist in my opinion. Omega are quick to react to trends and hopefully they realise that with all the success Tudor is having with the 37 & 39mm bb range they might make a slightly reduced version of the SM300- I think they would have a hit on their hands if they did!

    The crown of the helium valve should be more embedded in the case, to make it more subtle, it is not enough to give it a truncated cone shape. On the other hand, if the watch is going to have a certain elegant touch, I prefer it to have a diameter of 40 mm.

    I am an Omega watch lover- have a 19 Speedie Moonwatch Watch collection and two PloProfs- but I am not a fan at all of any of the current Seamaster models. The Seamaster has several things I don't like at all. First are the Skeleton hands, I prefer the hands of the Seamaster "1957" to these ones coz they are more legible, or even better, the hands of the PloProf. Second, I don't like that scalloped bezel coz it, in my case, is not as easy to turn as it is a coined-edge bezel. Third, I do not like that crown for the pressure valve located at the 10-hour position. It has the tendency of getting into everything. I prefer to have it replaced by the flush one used by Rolex and other brands. Those are my Deal-breaking points. My positive point is, the movement is FANTASTIC, the dial is very legible, and the case is very well done. Omega as a brand, has nothing to envy to PP, AP, VC, or JLC, maybe just the finish of the movements maybe better than the Omega. Otherwise, Omega is technically at the same level as the TRIAD. But that is my humble opinion.......

Point out flaws and the like. Thank you for listening and hopefully you will find this suggestion as constructive.
