    Short, sweet, very informative video for the basic functions of the MX5. Received mine yesterday and have had a blast so far trying out different configurations. It is by all means worth the smaller price compared to the full size pedal board model and is as easy to work with as shown here. Couldn't recommend it more to anyone!

    I bought one of these early on. At first, after listening to the presets I was disappointed (almost returned it.) It's been a couple of months now and I am very happy with it now. After rolling my own presets the tones are inspiring and are everything I hoped they would be. It's easy to use, compact and powerful. I have rigs built now that sound and feel so good to play I haven't touched my amps since. I'm going straight out from the MX5 into a pair of 8 inch powered studio monitors.

      @@mikehall4372 I have never played through a Pod Go. That was the other one I was considering. There always seems to be a trade off when choosing a modeller. I went with the Headrush because it allows me to run dual amps and dual cabinets of my choosing and 2 compressors with delay and reverb and still have 3 slots left for effects all on one preset. It has more processing power than the Pod Go and the touch screen for moving effects around effortlessly is really nice. The pod Go does have the extra foot switches which is really convenient. The longer I have the Headrush the more I like it. I wanted something small and powerful and this does it all.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  Pƙed 2 lety +1

      Hi, Angel. If you’re going to use any of the amp/cab modeling features in the MX5, you’ll want a clean power amp for getting the sound amplified. You could try running straight to the power amp input on the back of the Katana and see if that works for you. If not, a FRFR speaker would probably be your best bet. The FRFR108 is a great place to start for that.

      Hi, ymelfilm. The expression pedal is only used to adjust the parameters of the effects on the other footswitches. In other words, you wouldn’t use it to turn on a new effect, but you could use it to change the sound of something on one of the three main footswitches. For example, while you wouldn’t be able to turn on a boost with it, you could use it to turn up the volume and gain on an overdrive pedal, thus still acting as a boost.

      Headrush tones that come preloaded aren't that great you're right, they're more as a template to adjust to make them your own. There are quite a few guys that have artist rigs that you can download onto it and they're way better. But, I've had Headrush for a couple years now and now I also have the Mx5 for when I travel for work. It's great and once you learn how to make adjustments on the pedals, amps and you can download IR's etc as well, it's easier to learn and use than anything else I"ve used.. I haven't used anything else in the past year.

    Here's my take on the MX-5. Don't bother trying to dial in a good tone without Custom IRs. Even then the Helix and PODGo products are way better in the amp tones before it hits the Custom IRs. The only way to get a good tone out of the MX-5 is to use a great Custom IR because the amp tone is not that good. Also, the amp selection is a handful of amps with some slight variations. You get what you pay for and the MX-5 is cheap. Mine got returned and I had high hopes for it since it was based on the Eleven Rack product line.

    • @ryant3600
      @ryant3600 Pƙed 2 lety +2

      Nah, you can dial in really good tones w/o IR's. might take a little tweaking, but it's easy to do. I do have a lot of custom IR's on mine, but I have a lot that I use daily that uses a cab or two that come w/ the headrush, you just gotta know how to really go in and set everything up. Once you figure it out, it's actually not hard at all to do.

The Para Di isn't in stereo, has no onboard effects, no looper, no headphone socket etc. etc. but if your thing is acoustic guitar it will be far more useful to you (in a professional context) than something like this. If on the other hand you're looking at mainly home play, maybe there's more of an argument for having a multi FX though I'm not sure that this particular unit would serve you better than, say, a Plethora X5 which is focused on effects only (no amps) or one of the HX units (which is a bit more expensive but has a very large community of users).
